What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

I'm finding this for a friend, so I don't have a lot of details. This is a fantasy novel about a world where some evil stuff lives in the forest, so they burn the forest down except for one small area. Much later, the main characters have to go in to that last forested area to get some vital information.

I just read a book where this is part of the plot at the end:
