smashwords.com
They even have it in .pdf in case you can't access your reader.

Coral (coralm) | 9 comments I buy most of mine from Amazon, but I just discovered allromance.com and I think I'm going to start buying anything they have available there. They have a rewards program where when you buy 10 books you get 1 free! :)

I've only looked a little at the library website for e-books for the county I live in in NY, and I've had mixed results. It does seem like so many books I'm looking for, they don't have as a e-book. I did get 2 and I had to go on the waiting list, but it was only about a week.

That's a great site. In December, they were giving away a book a day which was great fun. I think they may be looking to expand their PR/UF line. My books are listed there, but since they are pretty low on the heat index, I don't think they do as well as some others.

I do like that All Romance categorizes books by heat level, too. It makes it easier to pinpoint the books you're interested in.

Katya | 645 comments If you are in Connecticut and have a library card...at any library: http://ctlibrarians.org/displaycommon...

And try this web site:
http://lion.lib.overdrive.com/B30C255...

message 57: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) Overdrive is exellent. You can go to their website to see if your local library participates. I've gotten a lot of books that way. The only downside is that they were having some fued with Penguin publishers, and Penguin pulled their titles. A lot of the books I had in my queue ended up disappearing : (

Angela~twistedmind~ (twistedmind) | 29 comments I order from Amazon. I'm not really up to date on anything technological so I'm not even aware if there is anywhere else I can dl Kindle compatible e-books. I haven't even checked my local library to see if they have e-books to borrow.

Angela...you can save alot of money by doing some shopping outside Amazon....especially the books that are higher priced.

message 60: by Jacquel (new)

Jacquel (clairevioletthorpe) | 127 comments I get some of my books from smashwords.com. They have a section for free and bestselling ebooks.

message 61: by Michelle (new)

Michelle Scott (michellescottfiction) Addicted to e-books is a great site because it features e-books that are $5.99 or less. Also, you can sort for titles based on level of violence, level of romance, etc.

Also, be sure to subscribe to the Kindle Daily Deal. If you do, you will get an e-mail every day that offers discounted e-books. They don't always have UF or PR, but there are some good books offered.

Your library should, just be sure to click on the Kindle listing.

Another joke at the public library ebook system (does work very well for checking out free books though) is searching for ISBNs -- you can find a book in library database and copy ISBN shown there and paste into search and still does not work

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Baen publisher has some available as ebook only from their site; I've also used http://fictionwise.com and was using http://librarybin.com where purchases of ebooks supported your local library.

Library bin shutdown as of January 2012 and says "As of January 3, 2012 the LibraryBIN site has been discontinued. The ability to create new accounts or purchase content from this site has been disabled. Past customers are strongly encouraged to download and archive all previously purchased titles at this time. After February 29, 2012 titles will no longer be available for download from this site."

Serena Dracis (serena_dracis) | 12 comments Almighty Amazon! But I'm learning about some of the sites mentioned here and will be expanding.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) Here on goodreads, clicking "book list" on a book's page does a decent job of pulling up some shopping options (not always ebook though).

Now if, like Ipad and smartphones, the NookColor and Kindle Fire would just run apps for all the ereader formats!

message 67: by Dom (new)

Dom (_dominique_p) I received a Kindle for Christmas, so I buy from Amazon.

I still prefer actual paper copies of books, but I do like the portability of e-Readers. I would like to see ebooks get cheaper, though! I don't really understand why, in many cases, the Kindle version of a book costs the same as buying a physical copy of the book.

Belkis (bminaya) | 861 comments amazon and smashwords. I have a kindle touch, a regular kindle, and an iPad n use the kindle app on all n on my laptop and Android smartphone and can read all eBooks without issues as long as they're formatted for the kindle app .prc & .mobi.

Dominique, Amazon and B&N are required by the publishers to set the price that way. They were NOT happy, either. In fact Amazon was putting at the bottom of their ads for E-books "Publish X (where the name of the publisher was supplied) requires us to price this book at this point." I think they were hoping that enough people would complain to the publishers to get them to lower the prices more.

My own theory for why the publishers are doing this is so that they can make up the money they are losing with paper books that don't sell well, since once the book has been "translated" to the correct format, they have to do nothing else to it.

message 70: by Wendy (new)

Wendy (wendyfraser65) | 81 comments Ok, I am just going to put my 2 cents in in defense of public libraries... 5 out of the 6 major publishers have (so far) refused to sell their e-books to public libraries. HarperCollins say they are willing to sell ebooks but with a limit of 26 issues per ebook (which obviously wouldn't go very far)

This has in effect cut public libraries out of a lot of the ebook market.

Radreamfarm | 9 comments How do you know what sites work with your eReader? I have a Literati - which says to use Kobo. I really like Kobo so far, but would like to find a cheaper place. Is there an eReader you would recommend that works with alot of places?

message 73: by Radreamfarm (new)

Radreamfarm | 9 comments It says that I can use
Books: EPUB, PDF and MOBI
•Documents: PDF
•Images: JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP and TIFF
•Text: TXT, HTML and RTF
•Comic Books: CBZ and CBR
But if I buy them from another website How do I get them onto my eReader? On an SD card?

You can use Calibre to put books of any format onto your ereader. Calibre is a free program that supports dozens of ereaders including the Literati and it is really easy to use. You just follow the wizard to set up your ereader and them add your books to the database. You attach your ereader to the computer with a USB cable and click send to device.

Here is the link to the site: http://calibre-ebook.com/

Marian (mariankrick) I've only bought from Amazon so far. I tried a free book from smashwords that wasn't very good so I haven't gone back.

I check out a lot of ebooks from my local library. The selection was small at first but now they have a lot of great books to choose from.

Jennifer Rhodes I go with Barnes and Noble. I used to have a Kindle but then it broke so I switched to Nook. I fell in love with it and have been using it since.

message 86: by Missyb (new)

Missyb | 493 comments Diesel-ebooks.com is okay. The prices are okay (often about the same as other places), the do have a good selection of Bundled books, but sometimes the prices are messed up so when you try to buy the bundle you get an error and can't. The great thing is that you can get credit for reviewing books, if your review is approved, and then use that credit for up to half off a book.

message 87: by Michelle (new)

Michelle | 8 comments Noble smashwords all romance and elloras cave. However I am a cheapo I google first before i biy to make sure I am not paying more than a paperback. If the paperback is cheaper ill get that. Then read it and sell it back to the used book store for store credit. I know nuts but i dont pay full price for shoes or handbags so why would I pay full price for a book.

message 90: by Marne Ann (new)

Marne Ann Kirk | 14 comments I buy from Amazon. I am in the "firmly against pirated books (aka torrent)" arena. They take money from the author, and I feel that's wrong. I'm an author, so one might argue that skews my perspective, but I've always felt this way. Libraries are a cool way to read books if you cannot afford to buy them. If you request a book, the library will usually get it for you. I'm just sayin'...
