Shantae (eeyore12) | 6 comments Sorry I have more questions. Tasks don't have to be done in order right?
And if I recently finished reading "Dear John" but it wasn't in the time frame of the Summer Challenge, can I still use it for the task Blockbuster Books?

I added a thread in Fun Games and Contests

Louvaine | 98 comments The tasks can be done in any order you choose, you decide which (or all) you finish, and any book begun before the challenge doesn't count for the challenge, sorry! Welcome to the challenge. :)

Actually, according to rule 3, a book can be started before the challenge as long as at least half of the book was read during the challenge period. For example, If you were on page 149 of a 300 page book at the end of the day on May 31st but it fits a task for the summer challenge you can use it.

message 55: by Louvaine (new)

Louvaine | 98 comments Oops, thanks for the correction, Liz. That means I CAN count the book I've started. Thanks!

I put a thread for the recipes in the summer folder.

PS cynthia, you seem to have missed me off the readerboard?
Thanks xx"

The amount of books will vary based on certain tasks don't have a set amount and all the tasks haven't been posted yet. The reason you are not on the board is that you first posted in message 77 I've only updated through 68. I will update more tonight when I get home from work (after 9) and tomorrow after work as well.

BZMoney | 159 comments Is there a "Summer Links" link? I know there was one for the Spring Challenge & I can't seem to find one for Summer... these are very helpful to me!
Thanks!

message 65: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments not sure if anyone has mentioned this before...but maybe on the group bookshelf, you could set shelves up for the challenges and then people can add the various books they read...it might make it easier for finding recs for similar challenges in the future...

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments I just want to say thank you to everyone who designed a task. This Summer's Challenge seems so well balanced with a variety of easy and hard, interesting methods of chosing books, and new and traditional titles. This one will make my summer a lot of fun.

I completely agree!!! I seem to also have a great many books that I own fitting into these challenges...some which have lingered on the shelves unread for far too long!

I, too, want to agree. This is only my second challenge, but I am finding that I am able to almost completely fill up these tasks with books I own. It is really hard not to go out and buy more books, but I really want to try and get to my TBR pile at home. Oh, and that plus the great library system I have here (if budget cuts don't kill it!!!). Thanks Cynthia and all who contributed. Looking forward to my summer reading...

message 69: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments There isn't a Summer Links yet since I usually do it. Another Seasonal Reader might create a spreadsheet for that. Not sure. But right now I'm so overwhelmed at work and after work that I haven't had the opportunity to create the new spreadsheet :(

message 70: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (heidi422) How do I make my book titles a link?

message 71: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments if you go to the upper right hand corner above the box you are typing in, there is a link that says add book/author - click on that, then in the textbook that comes up type in the name of the book you want to add and click ok...you can also put in the cover, but clicking on the button in the lower left corner that says link or cover...

message 73: by Tami (new)

Tami | 296 comments This may be a silly question, but is there a quick way to find out if an author is a Goodreads author? I clicked on the Author Program for the list but it is huge!

message 74: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments if you go to the author's profile, somewhere on there it will say is a goodreads author...normally in the box about them in the upper right hand corner

message 75: by Tami (new)

message 76: by Jen (last edited Jun 07, 2010 08:54PM) (new)

Jen (wishesandwanderlust) Also, if they have an asterisk * next to their name (when you're looking at your bookshelves).

message 77: by Tami (new)

Tami | 296 comments ok, just checking.. where do I find the author's profile?

message 78: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8964 comments when you look at the title of the book, underneath if you click on their name, it will take you to their author profile - HTH

message 80: by Inez (new)

Inez I am new to these tasks and find myself excited to complete them. I do have a few questions though.

1. Do you need to complete them in any kind of order? Such as all the 5 points first then move on to the ten points or can you skip around to say 20 point tasks?
2. In task 20.9 it ask you to read an independent book as well as watch an independent film, does both need to be the same or could they be two different titles?

Thanks for your help. This gives me a challenge to read more. Happy reading!

message 81: by Elliott (new)

Elliott I looked at the reader board and it says it is updated through post 200, and it says I have 25 points, but before post 200 I had completed a 15 point task, so shouldn't I have 40 points?

Tasks can be completed in any order, as stated in the challenge rules

2. In task 20.9 it ask you to read an independent book as well as watch an independent film, does both need to be the same or could they be two different titles?"

I assume they can be different titles, otherwise it would be very difficult to complete this task, as few (if any) of the book winners were made into independent films. However, the creator of the task has the final say. Help topics specific to each task can be found here.

Happy reading!

I have no way of contacting you because your account is set as private so I have to post things in the completed task post - the reason I haven't awarded you the points yet for task 15.1 is you that have the new and the borrowed but you didn't mention old/blue.

Rachel Lee wrote: "For 5.4 I had heard of the RITA award, but did not know there was an award for the Best Long Historical Romance. Does this still count?"
No

You should repost it so that Cynthia doesn't have to go back through. She has a lot of work on her hands keeping up with this challenge.

message 87: by Manday (new)

Manday | 307 comments Hey Cynthia - Terri has yet to answer any of the questions in the 20.9 help thread, and there are a lot of questions. Could you try to contact her, or moderate the tasK?

message 88: by Julia (new)

message 89: by JC (new)

JC (jmnc) | 638 comments Can audiobooks be used for "big book" points? I'm listening to "The Count of Monte Cristo" and it's 45hrs long, so I'm sure it's 1000+ pages in paperback.

for a new book that is blue, for 15.1 Wedding Bells are Ringing?

If you don't get a response contact me directly and I'll answer it - I don't always have time to check all the threads but I'll answer a direct message.

message 94: by Jackie (new)

Jackie | 125 comments Is there a minimum on the page limit. I found a book that sounds great for a 25 point task but its only 194 pages. Is that too short? I looked at the rules and all it said was books under 100 pages should be used for 5 point tasks only.

message 95: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Jackie -- The minimum standard from 10 points and up are 100 pages UNLESS the task itself declares a page limit.

message 96: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 1256 comments Does anyone have a recommendation for a "feel good" book?

message 97: by Felina (new)

Felina | 0 comments Tanja - I'd recommend Flipped. Its a YA book with a very strong female protagonist.

message 98: by Usako (new)
