Dangerous Hero Addict Support Group discussion

I like a sweet heroine, but I agree that she should have enough self-esteem to prevent her from letting a man use her and treat her poorly.

The ones where she lets the hero treat her badly are the ones I also dislike. I think that is mainly because I can't relate to how they can let themselves put up with it.

I think in the historicals I cut the heroine more slack in that regard as in reality what could a female in that time actually do about it?

I do agree with you on historicals, Suzanne.

I like Lady Danielle and Fani's list of detestable heroines...and I have to say it also applies in real life. =D

I can;t stand a heroine who clings on to fear way past the due date. I mean I get it things and men sometimes scare a woman but at some point suck it up and put on your big girl thong! LOL

In historical romances, the females had much less power, were hemmed in by society's rules, and never encouraged to lift a finger in exercise, so physical encounters (outside the bedroom) would likely cause a "deer in headlights' reaction. That said, I would like an historical heroine in a tough situation to at least be thinking of how to save herself, and maybe help the hero when he comes.

The heroine who really annoys me intensely, however, is the one who thinks she can always protect herself, pooh-poohs any advice on not doing something dangerous, and runs full tilt into a situation where she needs the hero to save her, usually by putting him in danger, too, to retrieve her worthless hide. I think these are in the category of TSTL, "too stupid to live". Those books become wallbangers for me.

lol Xanti. I hear or should I say read where readers throws a book against a wall. I have never done this yet.

lol I don't think I have ever done that either but I have been tempted a few times!

Xanti - I agree with you on the TSTL heroine. The 'I'm invincible' or 'what wrong could happen' type of girl is really grating. Happens a lot in historicals but many contemporaries don't escape from this sad fact too, unfortunately.

I don't like the arrogant heroines who think they can handle everything, but end up making it worse, either.
