Can reading a certain author or genre truly be addictive?

Oh, I also have a Kresley Cole, Lisa Kleypas, and JR Ward addiction. After reading Blaze of Memory by Nalini Singh, I feel the pull in her direction again. I have a milder interracial romance addiction, too.
Yes, I think so. I remember several authors I went out and searched for their entire backlist after I "discovered" them. Linda Howard, Julie Garwood and Lisa Kleypas to name a few.

Danielle, you are not boring. Drinking, etc. doesn't make a person lively. I don't drink, smoke, amongst a lot of other things. I have a quiet life and I love it. I mean there are some times, I want to go out and do something, but I can just have fun reading and writing.

Thanks for not thinking I'm boring, Arch. I like a quiet life myself.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts, Kathy Anne.

Going outdoors and acting like a fool or a Horses be---- as my Grama would say is a sign of idiocy in my book.
I know I like you both just the way you are, just fine.
Aw, you're such a sweetie, Kathy Anne. I'm getting teary-eyed here. I think you're wonderful yourself!

Thanks Pamela, now where is Sam, Dave, Cop, Parris, John, Cole and Noah. A hero is needed in a time like this.
:)
Sorry for going off topic. Jumping back in the "on topic" box.

I understand the Christine Feehan obsession Danielle : ) I also caught that. I read all the Carpathian series one after the other, then read the Drake series straight after! In fact I have done that with most the authors mentioned, once I am interested I just can't help myself!
I think drinking and stuff is over rated and very expensive I don't drink very often and I think I maybe the only 23 year old who has never so much as smoked pot! Although I am a chocoholic : )
Suzanne, I'm a confessed chocoholic also. I refuse to go on the wagon though.
I'm another who doesn't do the drinking or smoking or drug scene. Books are so much healthier for you :)

Books are definately more healthy, I am always a bit shocked when people tell me they have never read a full book before and they have no desire to, I really don't get it, they don't know what they are missing!

I love chocolate!
I can't identify with people who hate to read. :(
Suzanne, does Christine Feehan lace her books with crack or something? LOL.
PNR is sooo addictive. I think it's the hot guys personally.

Totally agree. It amazes me when people tell me "oh, I don't read". If I couldn't read I would be lost.
I have too many reading addictions to name and it varies from mood to mood. I'll go thru a PRN mood, then I want to read romantic suspense, throw in a couple of contemporary's,then a few smut books to round things off.
The only genre I don't read consistently is historical.
Right now I'm on a Montana Mavericks glom and since harlequin is having a BOGO I just bought *gulp* 26 of the series.

I don't drink and don't smoke either, and yeah, do have a boring despo housewife life too, but books are my addiction and saviours! I try to find backlists too, or when I find a new genre I like, I will dive into that. I read The Mephisto Club by Tess Gerritsen that had some religious background to it, and that caught me so much I'm now looking for such books and found Servant of the Bones by Anne Rice. Night Whispers by Judith McNaught got me into Judith McNaught and mysteries/rom suspense/intrigue.
So yeah, addicted to books is totally possible! and good too!

LMAO!!!! There's nothing wrong with driving 30 miles for a book. I've gone to Borders at night, in the winter, just before closing, with my black coat on over my hot pink pajama's just to get a book. It was book 7 or 8 book in the series I was reading, I was only on the 4th book. I know I could've waited, but I just had to have right then. Buying books, makes me happy, and calms me down. Although a few of my friends told me I have a serious problem.

When all the Harry Potter books came out I was in Borders/Waterstones at midnight waiting to buy it straight away! And I woul dhave done that for Magic Bleeds as well but I have yet to see it any book shops here yet! I am glad I got it on the 'net!

So true, Michelle and Suzanne. I am so about escapism. I love my dangerous heroes, crazy stories, and heart-melting romance.

I agree, I am all about the escapism too. I'm not the type that can create my own fantasy/daydream/story so I count on my go-to authors to do it for me. I also am easily entertained by my cats!
I got so addicted to Christine Feehan that I've almost made myself sick of them. I hate that! Her Carpathians are getting predictable in their deep love. Maybe I'm just jealous.
Cindi, I break up the Carpathian books when I read them. But, I feel myself being drawn back to that world. I feel the tug, even as we speak!

Once I find a good author I will be completely and utterly loyal to them and buy WHATEVER they write. Even if it gets poor reviews.
:::throws hat in the ring::: YAY for our addiction!!!!

I feel you about author loyalty, Courtney. Cutting an long-loved author out of my life is like divorce for me.

LOL! The pink pj's just happen to supergirl pj's! I've made myself sick of different series too. I get a roll reading all the books back to back, and then they do start to feel predictable and disappointing. The sad thing is, it's hard to break up reading a series when its a really good one.

LOL! I own quite a few Feehan novels, and have only read Magic in the Wind. I love hearing that her writing is addicting!

Michelle, I'll be interested to see if you fall for her, or hate CF. She's one of those authors that it's mostly love or hate for readers.

I think you're thinking of Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark Hunters and the Peltiers, were-bears, who own and run Sanctuary.

I'll take one or two! Preferably Zsadist and/or Vischous. I do so love them 'boys' ;-)

I've also noticed that I get addicted to reading certain authors. I have a really, really bad Christine Feehan addiction currently. If I don't read one of her stories for a couple of weeks, I go into withdrawal.
I've been addicted to Anne Stuart practically my whole life. And I also have a Harlequin Presents, paranormal romance, and urban fantasy addiction.
I've noticed if I read a book that's really good, I get obsessed with finding books in that genre or by that author to read.
Does anyone else have this problem? Should I seek professional counseling? :)
