willaful I entered an alternate edition of an old book and discovered that the ISBN had been reused (for a different book, not a different edition of the same book) and so I couldn't add it. I went ahead and did it without the ISBN. Anything else I should do?

surfmadpig | 25 comments I think you should double check the ISBN in question, search for the ISBN of the other book in case it wasn't listed correctly, etc. There probably was some mistake in one of the two book listings. Also, make sure you entered the ISBN in the proper field (ISBN or ISBN13).

Care to give us the ISBN to see what we come up with?

Sandra | 31414 comments that wench willaful, also put a statement in the 'librarian note' (on the edit page) that the ISBN has been reused for another book. That will help prevent anyone deleting the book in the future.

You can follow the same procedures as for an alternate cover edition:

willaful Both books are Harlequins, so it didn't occur to me that it might be a mistake. (Harlequin is notorious for reusing ISBNS.) I made the new edition and put the note in about the ISBN, but I will doublecheck to see if it might be an error.

willaful Well, I looked and every source on the Internet has the second book under that ISBN. I have the original book in my hands, so I know that #'s not an error. It's pretty clearly a reused ISBN.
