message 12: by Bry (new)

Bry (utqtbry) I think out of all the ones mentioned so far I have enjoyed them all but I never could get into the Cassie Palmer series.I read the first was and was so confused and just didn't like it so I never read any after that.

I think Ann Aguirre has a similar intensity to her writing.

I've only read Blue Diablo (Corine Solomon, #1) by Ann Aguirre , but I liked it a lot.

message 14: by Laura Lulu (new)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) The Kates are my fave UF series, but my other faves are both of Karen Chance's series, Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires & Karen Marie Moning's Fever series.

And another of my top fave series is Ann Aguirre's Sirantha Jax. It's sci-fi, but it reads very much like a UF.

Grimspace (Sirantha Jax, #1) by Ann Aguirre Wanderlust (Sirantha Jax, #2) by Ann Aguirre Doubleblind (Sirantha Jax, #3) by Ann Aguirre Killbox (Sirantha Jax, #4) by Ann Aguirre

Karen Chance's Cassie Palmer series

i really need to get to this series, since the end of the year is comming up soon. hopefully sometime in 2011 i have time for this series.

message 34: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) Many of the ones suggested already would be at the top of my list, I would also give a second (or third) recommendation for Mercy Thompson by Briggs the Fever series by Moning, and definitely the Downside Ghosts series by Kane. All are strong UF series.

Here are the firsts in the series:

Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs Darkfever (Fever, #1) by Karen Marie Moning Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane

TRIPLE RECOMMENDATION:
the fever series

hehehe. cant help it. that series is AMAZING!!!

message 36: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I so agree. :) I would say the Dreamfever series and Downside Ghosts series are tied for my most favorite UF series. Second would be Kate Daniels and Mercy Thompson, but they are are a distant second. Not because they are not worth reading, they are, I love those series. I just put Dreamfever and Downside Ghosts on an UF pedastal. :)

It is sort of like Kate Daniels in that something bad has happened and the world is no longe the same. Ghosts now murder people and there is an organization/government/religious entity that "protects" people. The main character is a witch for this entity and fights ghosts. She is also very insecure, abused as a child and as a result she is a drug addict. The book doesn't glorify drug abuse but her addiction and need is a battle that the character has to deal with. It is UF with some sex and romance. Sex in every book (not alot) but romance (light and subtle oh and frustrating) that is resolved with a sort of anti-hero in book 3. Very interesting mystery, magic and adventures in each of the first three books. 4 is due out fall 2011 I think. Then a 5th and final one on 2012. No cliffhangers.

message 40: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) I almost hate her for it. Almost.

message 41: by Ctanner (new)

Ctanner | 3 comments Both of Briggs series (Mercy and Alpha & Omega) are awesome. Love the Dresden Files by Butcher and the Chicagoland Vampires series by Neill.

message 42: by Dawn (new)

Dawn (dawnv) | 35 comments I am so happy the last fever book is coming out because I loved the series but the cliff hangers really irritated me so I quit until the series is over. Yeah now I can catch up :-)

I totally agree about the Faith Hunter series but I would also add Seanan McGuire Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire

I started reading Downside Ghosts and I can't remember why I stopped. Regina, after your recommendation I will just have to take it up again.

message 44: by Joe (new)

Joe Rees | 16 comments I'd third, fourth, fifth, whatever Mercy Thompson series. Its probably my 2nd or 3rd favorite UF series, with Kate Daniels being first, lol, and Dresden being 2/3.

I'll have to read some of the recommendations. Read Dresden, Hollows/Rachel Morgan (I'd recommend that as well), Alpha & Omega, Mercy Thompson, Vampire Acedemy, Cal Leandros, Twilight (somewhat unfortunately, lol). I keep finding myself re-reading Kate Daniels so I really need a new series to read, lol. If I had to read one which would you guys recommend?

Honestly I think all of the books you suggested are good. I am partial to Mercy Thompson and Rachel Morgan
Happy Reading!

message 49: by Joe (last edited Oct 09, 2010 02:56PM) (new)

Joe Rees | 16 comments Picked up the Fever series. Probably start it sometime this weekend. Need to read through a few articles for PoliSci and Philosophy though first. I've disregarded them for other series enough already, haha.

message 50: by Karin Elisabeth (new)

Karin Elisabeth (goodreadscomkarinelisabeth) | 49 comments I haven't given Mercy Thompson a go yet (can't really explain why) but I love Alpha and Omega.
I'd also second G. A. Aiken's series about the dragons and her series as Shelly Laurenston about the shapeshifters. I wouldn't necessarily say they are a lot like Kate Daniels but they are definitely fun to read.
