She was coming. The gargoyles knew; it was in the wind. She had risen again from her grave.
Bright green eyes peered into the dark horizon, wings unfurled, ready to fly. The gargoyles were trusted guardians, here atop this castle on the moor. Atop this prison. Zarin shifted position. “He will be restless and try to escape. Again.” Golath rustled his stone wings. “Yes. We will have to be vigilant. He nearly freed himself last time. The angels were not pleased.” “No, they were not.”
A wisp of light hovered on the horizon and the gargoyles could hear shouts from inside the castle. “I will go.” Zarin flew away, circling back to enter the castle. The doors opened to let him through. The shouts stopped and then Zarin rejoined Golath. “He will be quiet now.”
Over the next few hours, the light grew stronger, closer, until the ethereal form of a sorrowful woman stood in front of the castle gates. She turned her gaze upward to the gargoyles. “Will you let me pass?” Zarin flexed his wings. “You have leave, my lady.” The castle welcomed her into its darkness.
Golath sighed. “It will be over soon. Until next month.” Zarin arched his wings. “So be it. He has earned his punishment.” The gargoyles settled in to wait.
Below them, the last vampire suffered through the waning moon in torment, forever haunted by the ghost of his final victim.
I gotta say you come up with fantastic stuff on here. I get so excited when I see your name in my email box with a new title you've been working on. You have quite the fan club building up here on my end.
