I first discovered the Phantom as a comic book back in the sixties. In the seventies I discoved the Phantom had originated as a newpaper comic strip and over the years sought out not only the strip but also the compilations published as books. In the eighties, there were a series of paperback novels.
The Phantom, aka Christopher (Kit) Walker, was the latest in a line of fighters against evil. The line originated in the sixteenth century.
He was incredibly smart, brave, noble and rich. He was dangerous to evil-doers, but compassionate to everyone else.
For me he was the prototypical hero. He also became the type of character that attracts me.
The Phantom is a 2 part movie that premieres tonight on SyFy. If you miss it, I am sure it will be repeated.
I have the old serials that used to come on back in the day on my to watch list but I LOVE the Billy Zane movie (makes a great double feature with Alec Baldwin's The Shadow). I like him for all the reasons you mentioned Lynda and I loved the fact that he enjoyed being a super hero and had fun with it while catching bad guys. I need to catch up on some of the old strips. :-)
