Thanks, Leslie. Had not heard of that one. Sounds like it might be good, although the fact it is only available for Kindle could be a problem. :-\

Kirsten (kmcripn) I am trying something similar on my blog. I am starting in my hometown, then the rest of the states, then Canada, and on around the world. They are not all going to be mysteries, but it should be fun!

message 305: by Allison (new)

Allison Good luck Kirsten! Lots of other groups are doing around the world challenges so you're in good company!

I thought it might be a good idea to post an updated list for this challenge. States still needed are in bold, with books tentatively slated for some of the missing states in italics. For the three missing states, there are books for which I am looking, but they are all older books and out of print and/or hard to find.

Tips for new challenge players:

* Some authors are good for multiple states, such as Laura Childs, Aaron Elkins (also excellent for "world" reading challenges), Nevada Barr and Jessica Fletcher/Donald Bain.

* Look over older challenge lists posted by others who have participated in the challenge—both in this thread and under individual member challenge lists.

* Other groups have similar challenges. If you don’t find a book that fits for you here, check out other groups at Goodreads.

* If you’re trying to do the challenge only using mystery books, remember that they don’t have to be cozy mysteries. Books can be from any segment of the mystery genre — including rom-suspense or hard-boiled — and they can be for any age group.

* The Stop You're Killing Me website can be another good source in finding challenge books.

Linda (rudylkr) | 8978 comments I'm inspired by you Heather, so I'm posting my current list. I'm down to my last 7 states and have plans for 4 of them, just need to figure out something for the other 3. One of these years I will finish this! Heather - let me know if you want to do a buddy read for Tennessee - we seem to have picked the same book!

Linda ~ I don't know about you, but I'd really like to knock off those last seven books this year, if possible. I keep trying to work them into other challenges, and at least one of the four I have will fit the upcoming "Spring" challenge.

Someone recommended Tutu Deadly for my Utah book, but I've yet to get my hands on a copy. Maybe once we thaw out (which, the way it feels lately, might not be until June, LOL), I can get over to the new mystery bookshop in town.

message 313: by Leslie (new)

Leslie Heather - nice tips! You and Linda are much closer to finishing than I am but I also would like to wrap it up this year. I have about 18 still to go though so I won't be surprised if I don't make it.

I do tend to read more cozies than regular mysteries or thrillers. However, for every 2 cozies, I do read a mystery or thriller.

It was Home Front by Joel Rosenberg. It wasn't bad but definitely wasn't a cozy.

Melissa | 324 comments I'm getting very close, just three books left and I pretty much have them picked out! Just need to find the time to work them in, but I'm sure I will finish it now in 2015.

Melissa | 324 comments It's not coming out until summer 2015, but CJ Box is coming out with a mystery set in North Dakota called Badlands. I wish I could get my hands on it sooner!

Congrats on your progress, Melissa. I have 12 more to go but for some reason, this challenge is the one that tends to get pushed aside... But I did manage to read a North Dakota cozy mystery last month called January Exposure.

Kait Carson | 182 comments Oh, I forgot to update mine. Of course, there is a problem, I've been binge reading Sandra Parshall's Rachel Goddard books. I read the first two several years ago, I've just finished Broken Places (Rachel Goddard Mystery #3) by Sandra Parshall and Under the Dog Star (Rachel Goddard Mystery #4) by Sandra Parshall now I'm in the middle of Bleeding Through (Rachel Goddard Mystery #5) by Sandra Parshall . So I'm stuck in Virginia, but I can't seem to help myself.

I looked at that January Exposure, but it's a self-published ebook right? I'm a bit wary of paying for those, how was it?

That's been the problem with North Dakota, I've found several mysteries but they all seem to be self-published ebooks and I'm looking to get something from the library.
