Alycia I never liked to read growing up, murder mysteries were the only things that held my interest, authors like Christopher Pike and RL Stine. I got back into reading after I was done with grad school and newly married, I suddenly had more free time on my hands, but was so used to doing the school thing. Now I am an obsessive reader and love it.

Do you get to travel with your hubby, Kathy Anne?

message 4: by Kathy Anne (new)

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) Alycia,
I do travel with him,we have no kids so we are going every few days and have kind of a second home(teeny Apt) in Utah to stay in for more than a few days.In hotels in other states.
I also work monitoring the computers, which do tracking and quite often the work is very slow on them and boring for me.

I think that is so cool that you get to travel with him, but I am sure the traveling can get monotonous at times... boring is not good. :(

message 6: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I always loved to read but my love for reading grew so much more when I first moved to America. I had no friends, and one day my teacher took us to the libary and I fell in love. The rest, as they say, is history. I love reading because I like how the story comes alive in my head. I love that a book can make me laugh, or cry. I think I love books more than I love people.

message 7: by Sashana (new)

Sashana That's how you know you've read a great book, when you feel sad at the end and when you can re-read the book over and over again and still love it and be entertained.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I've always loved reading ever since I was young when my favourite was 'The Famous Five' series by Enid Blyton. I love to absorb myself in the story so much so that sometimes I irritate my husband and son because they will speak to me and I am totally oblivious to them because I am so engrossed in my book.

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) I blame my mother for my reading obsession. She used to read to us all the time--fairy tales and bible stories. I started reading on my own at four and never looked back. One of my happiest days was getting my own library card. We used to go to the library every week, and it was one of the highlights of my childhood.

I see books come alive as well, as if I am right in the middle of the story or like I am watching a movie.

My friends definetly complain when I'm in the middle of a good book. It's just so hard to stop!

message 14: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne My mom taught me read before I went to school. We had a library across the street from my childhood home, as soon as I was old enough to go I spent every Saturday afternoon there I used sit between the shelves and the radiator and read. I read anything and everything, The Hobbit, books on Greek mythology and fables, and ones about wildlife, wild flowers and the artic tundra are all ones I vividly remember. So I've always read and enjoyed being able to transport myself somewhere else through the pages of a book. I just wished tha tI found some of the books i'm reading now alot sooner.

Mahyar (themaninthegrayflannelsuit) | 14 comments I’ve always loved reading but I started reading English novels with Twilight.

English is my second language, so I used to think reading them would be really hard, and while I enjoyed reading Oxford shortened version of them, I had never tried an actual novel. Until, one of my online friends(I LOVE him for it.) encouraged me to read Twilight. Even though it took me a while to finish, I really, really enjoyed it. So, soon after finishing Breaking Dawn I started The Vampire Diaries along with a couple of Sarah Dessen and Nicholas Sparks' books and then, I joined GR which introduced me to loads of good books and awesome friends to discuss them with.

It looks complicated. How do you even type that?! And what does it mean? And if you love Twilight you should check out the Vampire Academy series by Richelle Mead (personally I think it's better than Twilight).

Well, there's an option in Windows to switch to Farsi, and what I typed means "This is how Farsi looks like." or "Farsi looks like this." LOL.

I've already read VA, and of course it's better than Twilight. Honestly, most of other well-known paranormal books are better than Twilight.

message 25: by Adrienne (new)

Adrienne @ Sashana I've started to read Anais Nin, I'd heard ofher but never taken much interest then I came across her on GRs and by coincidence remembered I had a copy of A Spy in the house of Love which was given to me by a friend and lurked in the bottom of a draw for years, anyway I decided to read it and since then I've been on Nin overload LOL. from reading her I started to search out a few foreign language authors and more literary stuff. I also wish I'd read Megan Hart alot sooner as well.

Unless he 'imprints' on someone(LOL. I still hate Breaking Dawn for that, Jacob and Leah should have ended up together.) like Jacob did, there's no way he'll forget Rose and fall in love with someone else.

message 32: by Sashana (new)

Sashana That'd be cool if a vampire could imprint. I think it's weird that Jacob is gonna be with Bells's daughter. Imagine that in real life. Can you say Jerry Spinger?

Sashana She must've had a blank moment. It would be cool if she did a story on Bella's daughter/Jacob/that other half vampire dude

LOL. I'd hate Jacob's book.

That's sad that someone would leak it like that. Smh, what's wrong with people these days? I think Edward's version would be a bigger hit than even Bella's.

message 39: by Sashana (new)

Sashana I just can't wait to read the last book, I'm kinda gonna be sad when it's over. But she is doing 6 new books on Vampire academy, one of which is gonna be on Lisi's parents (when they were alive and younger of course). I would love to read one about Rose's parents though.

message 40: by Joletta (new)

Joletta | 4 comments My family moved around a LOT, I had never completed a full school year at the same school. I was the constant new girl. It didn't pay to put in the effort to make friends when I knew that my folks would get itchy feet within a few months...so I immersed myself in books. I started reading "adult" books in third grade and had to carry around a dictionary for some of the words. (There is nothing more frustrating than reading a line like: "...he kissed down to her navel..." and not knowing what a navel is! lol) At the time that was as racy as Harlequin would get, haha. I moved up to the old "bodice ripper" romances, then stumbled upon an Anne Rice book...and have been hooked on paranormal romance/urban fantasy ever since.

I've passed my love for reading onto my daughter and we have lively discussions and mock debates about books that we've both read. (She's Team Edward, and I am/was Team Jacob. It was a sad day for me when she finished Breaking Dawn before I did...and snickered around me for two days. *sigh* I've created a monster.)

Jenny (thepretentiousreader) i think I started reading when my auntie gave me this book named: Baby Sitters club and RL Stine's books. Since then, I started reading.

Every time I read,I try to imagine and illustrate different places. Books can take you to magical places. :)

message 43: by Alycia (new)

Alycia I loved RL Stine too and Christopher Pike, that was the only way to get me to read growing up :)

message 47: by Elaine (new)

Elaine (penumbria) | 109 comments I have always been a voracious reader. When I was a child I read through my school library (I was always reading above grade level) several times. I would go to the public library as well, all the time. My mom used to read romance novels of all kinds and they were always laying around so when I moved beyond kids books, I started with her romances and then moved on from there. My daughter (7) seems to be following in my footsteps. She reads all the time, well above grade level, and re-reads her favorites constantly. For now she is still reading kids books but in a few years I can see her reading SOME older stuff though I will monitor it closely. Reading is just what I love and I can't NOT read. I really don't know how.

message 49: by Tanya (new)

Tanya Winanto (tuanyia) i started reading since i was a little kid. i still remember my mom forced me to since kindergarten so when everyone in my age still had a hard time to read, i already can read. but English was also my second language so before 9 years old, i still reading translated book like harry potter, famous five, Judy Blume's books, etc. but then when i went to Singapore when i was about 9 years old, my dad and mom brought me to a very large bookshops (Borders) and i was very shocked by the variety of the books. i still remember the first English book I've read was Mary Kate and Ashley. i forced myself to read the book even though there still some words i didn't know what were the meanings haha :) after that, my passion of reading became larger and larger.

i like reading to feed my imagination. i just love to feel the connection between its world and me while reading the book. i still get excited when i was inside a bookshop, it automatically gives me some joyous and happy feelings. i could spend more than an hour inside a bookshop :)

*I'm sorry if my English is rubbish. I'm still learning and once again, English is my 2nd language.

message 50: by Lauren (new)
