I think they made two films, one from Sweden and the most recent one American. I've heard that the Swedish one is better. I think when the book was first released in America it was released as "Let Me In". In case you want to request it from the library- it was a months long wait for "Let the Right One In", but I plucked "Let Me In" right off the shelf.

Jane (shoxford) | 34 comments Ah I see...cool, I'm going to the library later so I'll see if it's there

Heather | 504 comments I'm waiting in line at the library for Let The Right One In. Shay, did you see the movie; both versions?

I haven't seen either. I have three kids, so I don't get to see many movies that aren't cartoons. (Or have Megan Fox running in slo-mo because my oldest boy is 12.)

Oh, jeez! Do I feel that pain or what! My 3 youngest are 13, 11 and 10, so we see movies they want to see. lol At least most of them I don't mind seeing, but hubby and I rarely get to see what we want to see until it comes out on dvd.

Shay | 923 comments Oh, Carol, the worst movie I've paid to see... Catwoman in an actual theater because my son said, and I quote, "Holly Berry is tasty!" (Yes, he was only 5 or so, we worry about the teen years.)

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) Missed that one, Shay. lol The worst one we've seen, I think, is Doogal. What a crap movie, but the kids enjoyed it, so... Thank goodness my kids were in Ohio with my mom for a week this summer and she took them to see whatever crap Twilight movie came out this year. We didn't have to see it! Yay! But we all know what Santa will be bringing.

Heather | 504 comments LOL!!! Yeah, aren't the little ones darlings?? My friend's son made a comment about a woman who had no business wearing a thong at a store. My friend almost lost it she was laughing so hard.

As for the vampire movies, Let The Right One In isn't that bloody although there is suspense but it builds up.

message 59: by Eyterna (new)

Eyterna To be honest, i really only started getting majorly hooked back into books when Twilight first came into the world. I read a few others, like Fearless by Francine Pascal, but i always enjoyed books that had something out of the norm happening, it's more adventurous that way, think: Harry Potter. xD But then again, too far into the Fantasy realm and i have no idea what's going on, i'd like a middle-ground.

Welcome Paranormal Romance. I welcome thee gratefully into my heart.

I love it, though some storylines seem to exploit it, there are many who with their great spin on paranormality make it really worthwhile to read, personally.

The only problem now is deciding which ones i like, and which ones i don't.

Heather | 504 comments Welcome JoYee!

Have you thought about trying Jeaniene Frost's Cat & Bones series? Talk about a strong heroine and a hot vampire..

Before Twilight I didn't even know what Paranormal Romance was. Now it is a constant staple in my reading diet.

message 62: by Frankie (new)

Frankie I love supernatural books, but after twilight, I went off vampires.
It felt that every vampire book had the same basic storyline.

I've started looking at pre twilight books now everythime I want to read something about vamps e.g anna rice and bramstocker.

Has any one read Let Me in Let the Right One In by John Ajvide Lindqvist I thought it look interesting but... I've been wrong before.

message 63: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Never heard of it, Frankie. Does that mean you've never read Vampire Academy (since you only read pre Twilight)?

message 64: by Shay (new)

Shay | 923 comments I liked Let the Right One In. Very creepy, violent, but not as violent as I thought. But, the violence is very creepy. I guess the best way to describe it is that it's very Swedish.

I've never read anything Swedish, and based on your description I won't be doing so anytime soon.

message 66: by Sans (new)

Sans The American version of Let the Right One In (titled Let Me In) came out a few months ago. Should be out on DVD in a bit.

message 67: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Shay, saw both the Swedish & American versions of Let The Right One In. The library finally has the book for me to pick up which I will shortly.

Sans, I am thinking about 6 months or so for Let Me In. Let The Right One In is already out on DVD and I have it.

Frankie Sashana wrote: "Never heard of it, Frankie. Does that mean you've never read Vampire Academy (since you only read pre Twilight)?"
No i've not read them, they didn't sound that good. What exactly are they about?

I think I might try reading let me in/ let the right one in. I don't tend to mind creepy books. Vampires are supposed to be a little creepy.

message 73: by Ruth (new)

Ruth Violet | 2 comments i will try. sometime i forget. but definitely will try.

message 74: by Chelsey (new)

Chelsey (hart94) | 12 comments I love vampire novels. i love the fact that they're cheesy and predictable. you know boy a vampire falls in love with human girl. girl finds out that he a vamp, but still loves him blah blah blah. one series that isn't like that is Vampire Academy.

message 75: by An (new)

An Too much vampires. I don't really like vampires and I got sick of it.

message 76: by Olivia (new)

Olivia I did read Twilight but got bored on the last book. There are so many opinions. I'm neutral.

message 77: by J.M. (new)

J.M. Varner (jmvarner) The only Vampire series of books that I could ever get into was "The Strain" series. Very technical/"realistic" -- at least as realistic as one can get with vampires. :)

The Strain (The Strain Trilogy, #1) by Guillermo del Toro The Fall (The Strain Trilogy, #2) by Guillermo del Toro The Night Eternal (The Strain Trilogy, #3) by Guillermo del Toro

message 78: by Angela (new)

Angela (angieerickson) | 338 comments Great, I love the Urban Fantasy Genre. Vamp books have always been around, they're just getting more publicity than before.

message 79: by ♞ Pat (last edited Apr 12, 2014 07:38AM) (new)

♞ Pat Gent | 916 comments In my opinion, Anne Rice's Lestat series are some of the best vampire books on the market.

Begin with Interview With The Vampire(view point Louis)

But from there the whole series takes a 180 degree turn when Lestat (the central figure in the first book) tells the same story from HIS point of view, explaining how "poor Louis" got it all wrong.

Book #3 (Queen of the Damned) misses the mark just a bit when Lestat goes off to be a rock and roll star, but

Book #4 Tale of the Body Thief is Lestat at his absolute finest.

They aren't Twilight or Undead. These are sophisticated, adult level, complex character driven novels, with enormous motives and asking the age-old "what does it mean to be human" question.

Really fabulous reading. She's got a new Lestat coming out soon, and I cannot WAIT to get my hands on it!

message 80: by Jim (new)

Jim Vuksic Saturation of a genre, like anything else, dilutes its impact and value. I personally believe that vampire and zombie stories are rapidly reaching that point, if they haven't already.

message 81: by [deleted user] (new)

I agree with Jim, complete saturation of the genre. The books that are being written now are abysmal. I did read the Twilight series, they were OK, but it has since spiraled out of control. The whole love story, infatuation, blah, blah, blah. I wonder if the YA's out there have read Dracula by Bram Stoker , 'Salem's Lot by Stephen King , Interview with the Vampire (The Vampire Chronicles, #1) by Anne Rice , true vampire books

message 82: by Kat (new)

Kat | 1198 comments I generally avoid reading books with vampires for main characters in it (except TMI, of course), because I feel (but its probably not true, but still) lots of vampire books are really creepy. I mean I just don't like the idea of sucking blood and all, it's scary. I'm sure though that there are good vampire books, however it's just not my thing.
