Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! I know the feeling, Tracey. Some seriously speedy readers out there.

Welcome to the group!

message 52: by Tracey (new)

Tracey (stewartry) Thanks!

message 53: by Vivian (new)

Vivian (_vivian) | 1934 comments Tracey, I completely agree. I used to think I was fast, but that bubble's been shattered, lol.

I never...read more than one series at a time. Seriously. I would decide on a series, read it from book 1 to end/current release, then move on to a new series. Definitely not the case anymore!

message 54: by [deleted user] (new)

Before GR, I never haunted the mailbox like I do now. Walk down, check, walk back....(half an hour later)...walk down, check, walk back. The neighbours think I've got some sort of disease. Saddo.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LMAO!!

Sandra | 25908 comments LOL, I know almost to the minute when my mailman is due, fingers bitten to the quick waiting does that to you!

Dana (erato) | 922 comments Before joining GR, I never felt as though there was really a group of people like me...that I was quite different in my manic reading tendencies. My daughter (who of course had her mother to model behavior after) reads like a demon as well, but she's my girl!

Now I am 'cyber-surrounded' by buddies who totally understand my freakish obsession to read all night long. A group of people who know what it is like to finally take a deep breath (because you are lightheaded form not breathing), dry their eyes (because happy endings make them cry too), shut the book (reluctantly), and sit and relive the best parts in thier mind (and consider how long they should wait until they start the next in the series). Only to be inturrepted moments later, when they realize that the light outside is brighter than the lamp, and that annoying sound that was distracting them from their book was the birds twittering, "Good morning!" to each other.

Misery loves company...but PNR/UF mania needs its own trans-global membership. Yeah SOS!! :)

Laura Lulu (lauralulu) | 1603 comments Lol Erato! I've also been chastized by the birds for staying up way too late reading. Isn't it cool how they know the sun is rising, even before you can see any lightening of the horizon?

Isn't it nice to meet people who read even more than you do? I have readers in my real life--my mom and brothers always have a book going, but I am the crazy reader amongst them. So it's nice to come on GR and find people who blow away my 10 book a month habit. ;)

Yay! All so true, well said. We are the best kind of cult. Btw, I think the answer to this:

and sit and relive the best parts in thier mind (and consider how long they should wait until they start the next in the series).

is:

what is this word ... wait?

Douglas Adams says the shortest unit of time is between the lights changing to green on a New York street and the driver behind you honking, but *I* say it's milisecond between reading the last book you have in a series you love, and jumping online to order the next one. I've been known to create wormholes.

You originated the Butterfly Effect, didn't you? :)

I love the quote about the unit of time. I hadn't heard it before but man, it fits.

I have some readers in my family as well but I am the official leader for speed and addiction. It is nice to be in the company of those who know the ways of the force.

You use the force to read the Fever series in 4 days or something else OCD! :)

Johanna | 25 comments Before joining Goodreads I never...

... knew how many fabulous series there is in this genre!!!

At the time I was totally miserable, because I had just discovered PNR and UF by reading Twilight saga, Sookie Stackhouse series and Black Dagger Brotherhood series... and I thought I will NEVER find anything compared to them. Luckily... I was wrong. *grins*

message 65: by Audrey (new)

Audrey Cook Kolbek (audreykol) Before joining Goodreads I never ...

meant anyone that was into series as much as I was or loved to read as much as I do. People on here understand how I feel and don't think I am CRAZY! LOL

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) ....I never knew what to read, or had anyone to talk too about books.

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments That's so sad Sammie. We'll talk to you - and we'll tell you what to read! Especially Steph. She's really good at that "Gotta read it NOW" stuff! :)

message 68: by [deleted user] (new)

knew that people had this same obsession that I had.

And mine is small compared to some on Goodreads...I love this place!

message 75: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffanyrh) Before joining GoodReads I ..didn't own four bookshelves and counting..

message 76: by Steph, Serious series addict (new)

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments :) I'm the same, Tiffany. Thankfully eBooks are small, otherwise I'd have several external hard drives to go along with my bookcases.

Welcome to the group!

message 77: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffanyrh) I'm thinking of getting an eReader. It seems like a great investment :)

message 78: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) I wouldn't mind an ereader but I still would get more in a physical copy I love seeing them all over my house.

message 79: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany (tiffanyrh) That's why I'm only thinking about it atm. I LOVE physical copies of books. Especially hardcovers! <3

message 80: by Samantha (new)

Samantha Mullins (hixxup79) i'm a paperback or tradeback kinda girl...there are times where a ereader would be beneficial for me with the arthritis in my fingers from breaking them...my fingers have a tendency to lock if held in the same place for a long time....and they do it with paperbacks, but it's worse with hardbacks.

message 81: by Sara (new)

Sara I never knew there was a universe of adult vampire romance books! Honestly I thought all I had to get my teeth in to was chick lit and Twilight!

LOL Lethal! Cover love or under the covers? Nah, maybe TMI let's keep that a secret. >;)

Cindy (eclecticfirefly) (eclecticfirefly) | 1237 comments I understand completely Lethal! Good girl.

message 93: by Elle (new)

Elle (louiselesley) Before Goodreads I never branched out on genres.

I also didn't realise how many 'classics' or very popular books that I hadn't read/heard of there was.

Steph (angel4492) | 32703 comments LOL! Good Lord, it's back. *mind scrub* >;)

message 96: by Jenny (new)

Jenny | 87 comments Before Goodreads

- I never shared so much about books before.
- I never would have discovered some of the books and writers that I have.
- I would never have known how many people are into the same kinds of books that I am. (but I should have known seeing as how much the genre has grown)
- I would have continued to feel like there was something wrong with me because I was more interested in reading then in doing so many other things.
- I don't feel odd that I go just about everywhere with a book in my bag just incase.
- My TBR pile would be 3/4 smaller than it is because I check out the books you all talk about and then have to add it to my list.
- I won't have to ever say, Hi, my name is Jenny and it has been 2 days since I read a book.

message 97: by Paris (new)

Paris (pah13) | 1183 comments Before joining Goodreads:

* My TBR list was way smaller.
* I never knew there were others out there as obsessed with reading as I am.
* I never realized there were so many great series out there that I had never tried (or had never really given a fair chance).

Goodreads has been a great addition to my life, even if I'm not sure I'll ever get through my TBR pile. lol

message 98: by Komal (new)

Komal | 82 comments Before Goodreads
- I didn't that it was okay to always carry a book on your person at all times :)
- that other people loved to read all the time as well, and it wasn't just me
- that there were so many authors I'd never heard of!
- that I can actually talk to people about books from all around the world! < this blew me away.

message 99: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 1179 comments Before joining goodreads
a) I was missing out on a lot of good series :)
b) I didn't think that there were as many people who read as much as me
c)I would hunt for hours trying to find a new series. Amazon just doesn't have the recommendations like GR

A Voracious Reader (a.k.a. Carol) (avidreader68) Before joining GR, I never...

...realized I wasn't the only person to forgo personal hygiene, eating, sleeping or household chores to finish a book/series.

...thought about how many excellent indie authors there are out there.

...would have thought of starting a book blog, joining Twitter *gasp* or getting an ereader (thank you to my wonderful DH for buying me a Fire for Christmas out of his saved allowance money when I said we couldn't afford it).
