Hunger Games/Catching Fire/Mockingjay

I second RA's welcome Kristine.

I have to say that I'm really appreciating some of the young adult novels coming out, and I'm going to check this series out. The one I'm reading is The Mortal Instruments Boxed Set: City of Bones; City of Ashes; City of Glass by Cassandra Clare and it's very good. We also enjoyed Percy Jackson and the Olympians Boxed Set which I've been reading with my 9 yr old. She knows more about the Greek Olympians at this age than I did in high school!

Another trilogy that I stumbled onto recently that's good (so far) is the study series. The main character is slated for execution for killing her attacker in self defense, when she's given a pardon - the catch is that she needs to become a poison taster and risk death anyway. The series is fantasy based.

This book was much more dark than the previous two (which sounds weird, since the first two were all about death). The first two books had more light moments in them, whereas the third was serious pretty much the whole way.

Would it be best if you read these in order, or doesn't it matter?

The second half was like a hit to the gut and I couldn't stop reading.
Thanks guys, I'll have to get my hands on the first two.

Age aside, the books are full of discussion-worthy content. I've read them, my husband has read them, and my older son has read them, and we've all equally found the books captivating.

It doesn't really roll off the tongue does it?

I loved them all. I hadn't even heard of them until everyone was raving about Mockingjay, so I got to read them straight through one after the other (which is always best, waiting sucks). I can't decide if book two or three was my favorite, but the series over all is a strong 4 - 4 1/2 star series.

I had never heard of this triliogy, but since Mockingjay has been brought up so often, I decided to read the first few pages of The Hunger Games on Amazon. I was surprised at how easily the words flowed, leaving me wanting more. This isn't usually my type of book but I'm seriously thinking of getting the first one and seeing if I take to it. It's the writing that gets you.

I haven't read them yet, but I might, as my kids loved the first two, and the library is throwing a party for the Mockingjay release. What do you think?
