Books I Loathed discussion

Had a promise but turned out really bad. When I saw people compare this to To Kill A Mocking Bird a wanted to puke. This book will be forgotten quickly. Not even a good book. Mediocre at best.

Well, you're right: It's no To Kill a Mockingbird, but I thought it was a wonderful book - especially if you're from the South.

I just had two friends tell me how amazing it is.....hmmmm....how to decide whether to read it or not....

Uh-uh. One of the BEST books I have ever read. Sorry, this one's worth the hype and then some. It's not to Kill a Mockingbird because it's not a boring, overly dry and literary book you had to read for Language Arts class. I've read & heard criticism on the radio & print from authors and historians--they all come off jealous more than anything. Not every book is for every person, but this one really hit the heavy heart nerve buttons with people. It's not the only one that does, plenty others do, but it's a classic.

Over-hyped novel yes. But worth loathing no.

I listened to The Help on tape and found it to be wonderful.

I hated not just the writing, but the white savior/white lens on the whole set-up. I imagine it makes people who allow themselves to see through that lens on the daily feel good, though.

I loved this book. Stories of the lives that no one ever think about. A mere glimpse of what is not taught in History class and should be. African American women lived through what this book details yet there are minorities still dealing with it today. Its a book I hope will be read in classrooms along with books such as Roll of Thunder Hear My Cry, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings and yes To Kill a Mockingbird.

This is part of the reason I don't want to read it. I can't deny that is isn't a good book or not but I am so tired of the white saviour who comes and helps the incapapable minority.

I remember the reviews were all about how the author wrote about a mysterious time that people reading have probably never heard of. Like, seriously? Did people think that slavery ended and everything was peachy? Lol.

Oh. My. Goodness. I absolutely loathed Stewart!! He was...never mind.
