What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Short story, Sci-Fi, possible YA.
Last read in 2000 in a short story collection. Possibly written in 1980's.

Main focus of story is young woman just finished with training starting a new job at a horse ranch which trains horses not to spook when being shipped through space.

She finds herself disappointed that there isn't more personal interaction with the horses (riding specifically) and has trouble becoming accepted by current workers. Head of ranch is named Ted I think.

Finally gets chance to be fully accepted by breaking a wild horse.

I've read this. I'm thinking it was published in F&SF, but might also have been in the Year's Best Sci Fi behemoth books, edited by Gardner Dozois usually.

I'll mull it more until or unless someone else chimes in.

Found it. Story is Anne McCaffrey's "A Quiet One". Can be found in "2041: Twelve Short Stories About the Future by Top Science Fiction Writers" edited by Jane Yolen or "The Girl Who Heard Dragons" by Anne McCaffrey
