Sashana This year has been filled with vampires and werewolves and faes. I think the Twilight movement has propelled PR books into high demand. People can't seem to get enough of these other-worldly creatures. So the question for you guys is: Do you think that Paranormal Romance books will be as popular next year (or maybe in 2 or 3 years) as they are now? Are Paranormal Romance books a fad or here to stay?

Lauren | 931 comments I think that they will definatly NOT ever be as popular as they are now! Twilight started something... strange. A weird addiction if you will.

This should all be over in the next year or 2, I'd say.

Carol Cork *Young at Heart Oldie* (httpsrakesandrascalswordpresscom) I think while J R Ward and Sherrilyn Kenyon are still writing their BDB and Dark Hunter series respectively, the genre will remain popular.

Heather | 504 comments Hmm, I think Carol is right; Twilight, Kenyon, Harris and Ward definitely opened the door for vampires and other super natural beings.

Oh yeah to the weird addiction of Twilight as I won't tell you just how possessed I am.. very sad and scary..

Sashana I think that in a year or two Paranormal Romanc will still be popular, but not as popular as they are now. There is an obsession with PR books now and authors are rushing to feed our need. It's definetley a fad.

Irene Hollimon | 52 comments I'd say the vampire craze started with Anne Rice But before that there was Bram Stoker
Charlaine Harris was actually the author that got it started for me. I read the Twilight series after that.
So, it wasn't like Twilight burst on the scene out of nowhere. It was more the crest of a wave that had built up.
Since this vampire romance stuff is about all I read these days, I've been bitten- I don't see it going away anytime soon. I'm a member of several groups on this site so I'm not alone in my interest.
I think vampire romance will even out and find it's place as it's own reading genre. I find a lot of my favorite books in the horror section and I don't define them as horror in the same category as someone like Stephen King.
I think some of the excitement is going to die down. I think Twilight itself will be forgotten for whatever the next craze is- But I think (hope) the genre is here to stay.

Alyssa (shyluck13) It's not just vampires that hold this addiction anymore. It's werewolves, witches, sorcerers...you can't imagine how many different variations of supernatural that are out there right now. True lovers won't die out of this genre for long, like me, but those who are only into it for the faze are bound to fall out as soon as their favorite series end.

Heather | 504 comments Lauren, Lauren! I opened up to you and just laughed at my addiction! Do you know what my friend calls my addiction to the Twilight Saga ... CRACK! It is my crack! Man, she is right too! Oh no, no, no, no, don't you dare LOL. I'll know, you'll know I know..

message 10: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments Haha :) Interesting.... ;))

message 11: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Yeah and my friends give me such grief! I don't mind cause they are just teasing. Besides, Edward is very nice eye candy..

message 12: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments You got that right! He is yummy! :)

message 13: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Also Lauren, no one has ever liked my taste in books, music and movies. I made friends watch The Dorm That Dripped Blood and Silent Night, Deadly Night. Yes, they were both stupid beyond belief and yes it was worth it. People say the same thing about the romance books I read, no matter the genre..

message 14: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments Awww :) Well I am happy that you read what you actally like and not other things that everyone else is reading... Lol. I am pretty weird too. I love to watch Army Wives on Lifetime and All my friends think it's stupid! :(

message 15: by Sashana (new)

Sashana Lauren, I used to watch Army wives too but I stopped after season 2, I don't know why though. Now I watch Drop Dead Diva.

I know what you mean Heather, I'm friends with a few book snobs and they drive me crazy sometimes! They get so shocked when a read a -gasp!- romance book. To them if I'm not reading the classics then I'm wasting my time.

message 16: by Lauren (new)

Lauren | 931 comments Haha :) I just started this season

message 17: by Heather (new)

Heather | 504 comments Sashana, I just keep remembering what my Mom told me when I told her about the snide comments I would get. All she would say is that at least I read..

Hey, I watch The Vampire Diaries and I call that my guilty pleasure..
