Sarah | 13814 comments The teacher thread led me to the wikipedia page for my high school, which said that the movies Billy Madison and Resident Evil: Apocalypse were filmed there. I haven't seen either, so I can say "Who knew?" but now I might watch Billy Madison out of curiosity.

Have you got any ties to scenes in movies or TV shows?

Here are my others:
I can identify the location of nearly every scene in The Wire, judging on the three episodes I've now seen. Ditto for just about every John Waters movie.

I once walked through the Law & Order set by mistake, early in the show's existence. They were filming at my friend's building. I saw Chris Noth, before he looked like Sam the Eagle.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Port Washington, Wisconsin, was the site, on tv, of the show Step by Step, featuring Patrick Duffy and Suzanne Sommers. Strangely, though, the opening credits featured an amusement park, and there isn't an amusement park for sixty miles. I have no idea why they picked Port Washington as the place where they lived as I think they filmed in California. And The Breakfast Club was filmed at a high school not far from which I grew up.

Public Enemies was filmed all around Wisconsin, too. I can recognize some of the Milwaukee scenes.

Movies shot in Chicago, esp. on lower Wacker, are always easy to spot, e.g. the last Batman. But the movie I recognize the most is Blues Brothers, which was filmed all over the city.

Oh, and the latest Transformers movie just filmed at the Milwaukee Art Museum...

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Baltimore looks cool on Ace of Cakes, too, Pi:)

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) The rock group Papa Roach is from my small hometown.

My husband and I once walked out of a side door at a Vegas casino and straight onto a red carpet for a country music event. Cameras started going off until people realized that we were nobody.

Sarah | 13814 comments That's cause it is cool. Ace of Cakes is a way better ambassador than The Wire, at least when it comes to getting people to visit me.

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments Monster's Ball was filmed in my old hometown in Louisiana. The diner scenes were shot in the Airline Motors restaurant... I've been there MANY times with family and friends.

It's the first place I've ever tasted hushpuppies. The best by any standard were at Airline Motors. They were light, not very greasy, and spicy.

The restaurant had closed for a few years, but it's open again.

Brittomart Patch Adams was filmed on my school's campus.

A few months ago, Dinner Impossible! filmed an episode at my school. They had to go around and make a dinner using stuff they found in people's dorms.

And some new food show - Kid in a Candy Store, I think? - featured Sugarland, a bakery on Franklin street.

My girl and I went to Ace of Cakes on one of our vacation adventures and we only got as far as the front door. You have to be an actual client to get in. I thought they would have a big gift shop and maybe a big window to look into the operation, but no such luck. Very hush, hush. A very sketchy hood also.

Chain Reaction with Keanu Reeves has some nice Chicago scenes, especially the one where they raise the Michigan Avenue Bridge to trap him on North Michigan Avenue but he runs up it as it's raising. I love that scene.

I also enjoy watching for inconsistencies in D.C. movies, like in No Way Out with Kevin Costner there's a footchase scene in Georgetown, he's running through this shopping mall and suddenly he emerges and runs down into the "Georgetown metro," except there isn't any Georgetown metro. Washingtonians laughed at that scene.

"61*" and "Tiger Town" (the first movie shot exclusively for the Disney Channel) were both filmed in the long-gone and much-lamented Tiger Stadium, a place that held so many dear memories for me. And more than just a few of my brain cells, lost to rivers of watered-down stadium brew and countless jazz cigarettes.

Surprisingly, "Detroit Rock City" was filmed in various locations in Ontario (Hi Barb!). The Cobo Hall scenes were shot at the not-quite-NHL-ready Copps Coliseum, in Hamilton. There's just one problem: Kiss didn't play Cobo Hall on their 1978 tour. They played at the now-razed Olympia Stadium, former home of the Red Wings. Oops!

Heidi (heidihooo) | 10825 comments OH! And The Toy (the Richard Pryor movie) was filmed in Baton Rouge at the governor's mansion.

At the time, both my stepmother and uncle were reporters who covered the capital beat... and my dad was a lobbyist for small businesses. SO, I'd been to the governor's mansion on several, if not quite a few, occasions to attend press conferences and events with my parents and/or uncle. The governors in office during that time were Dave Treen and Edwin Edwards.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments Did I mention Hanson did a video based on The Blues Brothers? It's actually pretty good.

Mary (madamefifi) A movie probably no one's ever heard of was filmed in Richmond in the 80s--Finnegan Begin Again, starring Mary Tyler Moore and Robert Preston. My friend Lew and I watched the filming one night since it was taking place right outside his apt building on Grove Ave. It was actually quite boring. The filming, I mean; I confess I never saw the movie.

Phil | 11837 comments The original Invasion of the Body Snatchers was filmed in and around the small SoCal town where I grew up.

Sometimes I see bits of Seattle on TV. A few weeks ago I saw a shot of Seattle from the air that was supposed to be recent. In the background, however, you could see the Kingdome, which was imploded in 2000. Must be industry cutbacks.

ms.petra (mspetra) Woody Allen's SLEEPER was filmed just west of Denver off of I-70. You can see the house if you know where to look. The Father Dowling mystery series was filmed in downtown Denver. Also, the opening scenes of Dynasty. I am sure there are others, but I don't know what they are. My daughter and I made a two week trek to Philadelphia, Washington DC, and some eastern colleges two summers ago. Now when I flip on the news or a Rocky movie, I can say "wow, I have stood right there and seen that." Pretty cool.
