Amy (amescat) | 279 comments I love when books make me laugh and when the characters really embrace a fun/snarky personality. I thought of this question after commenting on how much I enjoyed the “Love at Stake” series by Kerrelyn Sparks. A lot of PNR books seem to come across as extremely serious and never lack in drama. However, there are times that I want to read a book that is fun. To me the character who adds the most to a series is Nix in Immortals After Dark by Kresley Cole. She makes me laugh so much when she shows up like in the scene when the Woede brothers are looking for her and she just pops up behind them and says "who we lookin for"

What books or series of books have made you actually LOL?

Who is your favorite fun/funny character(s)?

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments I'd have to say the series that made me LOL the most was Richelle Mead's Succubus series. I loved all of the characters and all of their banter. I'll be sad to see the series end next Spring. I can't pick just one character out of that series because they all made me LOL at one point or another.
I also have to say the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost gave me lots of LOL moments also. The vampires such as Bones, Ian and Spade are hilarious and so ruthless. Cat can hold her own and well, all of the characters can be funny.

Lauren⁷ 💜 (lrc123) | 115 comments Night Huntress for sure! I love Cat's one-liners and comebacks, they never fail to make me LOL. Who can forget "Killed Not By Fangs, But Ferragamos". Lassiter from the BDB can be pretty funny as well.

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments YES! Lassiter is hilarious! I agree Lauren.

message 5: by Desperado (new)

Desperado (lethallovely) | 453 comments I agree with Jen. The Night Huntress series is pretty amusing. I also think some of the novels in the IAD series by Kresley Cole has it's hilarious moments. Katie MacAlister's Aisling Grey, Guardian series made me laugh. So does the Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter. Oh, & Karen Chance's Dorina Basarab series.

But the series that made me laugh the most is Louise Rennison's Georgia Nicolson series. It's not PNR but it has made me laugh like a nut, even in public places. Georgia is so slow. But you've gotta love her.

message 6: by Amy (new)

Amy (amescat) | 279 comments Oh I love Lassiter with his glowing self!

The Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost was great as well. Lords of the Underworld series by Gena Showalter is one of my fav PNR series, I reading the newest one now.

message 13: by Beth (new)

And its on sale on Amazon kindle right now for .99 but only for the next few days then it goes back to 12.99. if you don't have a kindle handheld, amazon.com has a Kindle PC version you can download for free. that's what I did. Hey Beth, Thanks for the heads-up on the Kindle sale. I just pointed and clicked for that 99 cents deal. I have not been paying attention to my Kindle recently because my library has most of the books I want to explore without the financial investment. My Kindle is for tried and true or cheap.

message 16: by Yvette (new)

Yvette | 124 comments Nix is hilarious, especially when she is around the Woede. And I actually freaking snorted and started laughing at this part in Night Huntress.

Where Mencheres says "that bodes ill"

Cat: "...speak like your in the 21st century"

Mencheres: "the shits gonna splatter, start buggin', yo"

I really couldn't help my snort, as soon as I read that I couldn't stop laughing.

I don't think I've read many books where I LOL. But these 2 series have given me plenty LOL moments.

Jen ~The dreamer~ | 649 comments LMAO Yvette!! I love that part!

Suzanne (Under the Covers Book blog) | 411 comments I second that Smut Bitch, Shelly Laurenston is so funny.

Also Christine Warren, her Others series is funny as well.

message 23: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Harris | 77 comments I have added so many of these to my "to read" shelf. I'm loving this thread. I have to say I really love Betsy the Vampire Queen. I really love the humorous approach to awful things in life. I have been reading through the series and I laugh out loud all the time.

This is the first paranormal series I've read that is meant to be funny. Most of them take the whole thing so seriously. It is really refreshing.

message 24: by ☺~Tina~☺ (new)

☺~Tina~☺ (tina007) | 43 comments Lots of them have some good parts but I swear I laughed so hard at Miki, Angie and Sara. And the Smith wolves.I think Shelly Laureston has some of the funniest books I've ever read.

Cat/Bones and team has some great lines too. Also Kate and Curran-Kate Daniel.

How about A Date with the Other Side? That one's funny. And I too love the Laurenston books. And Showalter's books, Katie MacAlister's books (all of them), Sparks, Sizemore, The Vegas Vamps books, oh, and a new series (book #2 has just come out) The Lucy Valentine books (Lucy's family is in the matchmaking biz--but they have a little something "extra" to help in the biz--they see auras and match people up on that basis.)

Oh--and Linda Wisdom's series The Jazz Tremaine series (altho Jazz isn't the main character in all the books.)

Lots and lots and lots of other good books. WWAAYYYY to many to remember right now.

Riverina Romantics (riverinaromantics) Big fan of Nucking Futs Nix from the Immortals Series. Kresley Cole is such a great writer!
I also like the sarcastic one liners in the Black Dagger Brotherhood.

message 27: by Lady Grey (new)

Lady Grey (theladygrey) | 5 comments I too loved Katie MacAlister's Aisling Gray series about dragons(You Slay Me). They are especially funny as audio books as they are read by Barbara Rosenblat who is wonderful with accents and a great narrator.

I also laugh at loud at the Immortals after Dark/Kresley Cole series. And although I didn't find all of Linsay Sand's Argeneau vampire series funny, I did enjoy Single White Vampire.

message 28: by Gin (new)

Gin (gynh) | 32 comments I like Christopher Moores Bloodsucking Fiend series. Its witty and sarcastic!

message 29: by [deleted user] (last edited Aug 05, 2010 10:25AM) (new)

I like Nix from the Immortals after Dark series by Kresley Cole. I can picture her in my head perfectly...hilarious! I also like self depreciating/cocky humor of Jace from The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare.

message 30: by Shannon (new)

Shannon (bama_sugar82) | 10 comments The Queen Betsy Series by maryjanice davidson had me LOL. Something about an airhead being the queen of the Vampires... CLASSIC!!!

Then I love the banter between the guys of BDB.

Geeze--I just realized, we left out Terry Pratchett. I loved his Disk world series, but the one he did with Terry Gaiman, Good Omens, is a total scream. Talk about a really twisted Appcolypse. . . . .

Lisa Kumar (lisa_kumar) | 14 comments I have to say Simi from the Dark-Hunter Series has always been a memorable character for me :) Child-like equivilent of a teenage demon, anyone?

A | 9 comments I have to agree with Lisa, simi from the the Dark-Hunter Series is great(BBQ Sauce any one?)!! I also agree with the Night Huntress series by Jeaniene Frost giving great laughs! One however that hasen't been mentioned is the Argeneau series by Lynsay Sands, PAR with ALOT of humor!!!

I thought someone mentioned Argeneau's--at least mentioned Single White Vampire. But I too like the series.

Lauren⁷ 💜 (lrc123) | 115 comments Lisa wrote: "I have to say Simi from the Dark-Hunter Series has always been a memorable character for me :) Child-like equivilent of a teenage demon, anyone?"

I forgot about Simi, she always makes me chuckle. "The Simi wants to eat him". Classic. And who can forget Simi and the cows?

message 36: by Jen (new)

Jen I like both the Aisling Gray and Queen Betsy series, but my absolute favourite series is by Lynsay Sands. She is always good for a laugh. My favourite in the series was already mentioned. Single White Vampire

Camille-Dhark Nytmhare | 42 comments My LMFAO series has got to be the Broken Heart series by Michele Bardsley. The titles alone give me a chuckle...I'm the Vampire, That's Why...Wait Til your Vampire Gets Home...and my personal favorite title...Don't Talk Back to Your Vampire. These books are great reads!! It is a hysterical read and the sex is super hot. It is a fast paced read with lots of action with blood, gore, romance and HEAs.

Let's not forget Simi and Travis F and her posters of him, even though he looks like Ash. She sure is a shopping demon, also.

message 40: by ൠSinful (new)

ൠSinful (sinful) | 118 comments I read the thread title and Nix is exactly what came to mind. Clearly, K Cole struck gold with Nix.

Kate Daniels takes me through every emotion, but she definately does humor.

Merit and Mallory together in Chicagoland Vampires. Seriously snarky stuff.

I liked grandma in the Stephanie Plum series (not PNR but funny)

Shelly Laurenston's Mangus Pack and Pride series put me on the floor. My poor husband has to listen to me read quotes from ALL the characters every three minutes.

Pam in the Sookie Stackhouse books keeps my side hurting too. Love me some Pam!

Amy (amescat) | 279 comments Michelle wrote "Shelly Laurenston's Mangus Pack and Pride series put me on the floor. My poor husband has to listen to me read quotes from ALL the characters every three minutes."

I do this ALL the time. Usually he just looks at me like I've lost my mind. I was talking to him about this thread the other night (the Love at Stake series specifically) and he asked me "Is this the one where the vampire loses his fang and has to go to a dentist?" I was floored to find out he was actually listening to me.

message 42: by Mhollie (new)

Mhollie | 178 comments For all you Simi fans...here's a quote from the Simi...

"Simi? You got some free time? (Kat)
Of course I do. You know akri on Olympus with that heifer-goddess I want to eat, but he won’t let the Simi have no dinner. So why you calling me, little akra-kitty? (Simi)"
— Sherrilyn Kenyon (Devil May Cry)

message 43: by Jennifer (new)

Jennifer | 429 comments Its not PNR, but Jen Lancaster is absolutely hilarious. I cant remember which book (either Bitter is the New Black : Confessions of a Condescending, Egomaniacal, Self-Centered Smartass, Or, Why You Should Never Carry A Prada Bag to the Unemployment Office or Bright Lights Big Ass 8 Copy Counter Display) has a scene in Ikea which makes me laugh so hard I cry every time. Anyone whose ever been to Ikea needs to read it!

Love it!

message 45: by Stacie (new)

Stacie H. (staciemh) | 75 comments I agree with all that said the Night Huntress and Broken Heart, OK series. To add to the list: Katie MacAlister's Dark Ones series (though her non-PNR book "The Corset Diaries" had me laughing more), Molly Harper's Jane Jameson series, and the character Jenks from Kim Harrison's Hollows/Rachel Morgan series.

message 46: by Irene (new)

Irene Hollimon | 182 comments The demon Giguhl in Jaye Wells Sabina Kane series is definitely the funniest character I've come upon
Red-Headed Stepchild by Jaye Wells The Mage in Black (Sabina Kane, #2) by Jaye Wells

message 47: by KarenF (new)

KarenF (cleocleveland) | 55 comments I agree with everyone who mentioned Shelly Laurenston's series and add on the Dragon Kin series that she writes as G.A. Aiken. What A Dragon Should Know actually made me chuckle out loud while reading it at my desk at work (during lunch of course). I figure anything that can make you laugh in while the office must be pretty funny.

Michelle - I love Grandma in the Stephanie Plum books too. I'm hoping they get Betty White for the movie!

message 48: by ஐAndreaஐ (new)

Well, since we are throwing in non-PNR books, the entire Bombay Assassins books 'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy Guns Will Keep Us Together I Shot You Babe and all the rest of the series (I believe there are 5 in all)

message 50: by Heather (new)

Heather | 243 comments Jennifer/Ann aka Iftcan, you both have caught my attention with the titles of those books! I am going to check with my library to see if they have them or if they can order them.
