Sally | 4 comments This was a childrens book I borrowed from the library in the early 1970s, aimed at 5 to 10 year olds. Not a picture book, a story book. Three bears, named Boots, Slippers and Socks were the main characters, and there might have been more than one book in the short series, or perhaps just a single book. The only storyline I can remember featured old stuffed toys and dolls who "lived" as mascots on the front of dustbin lorries; I think there may have been a big "rescue adventure" to dustbin land.

Hmm, well this book I don't think is that old, but it's definitely about stuffed dolls and toys who serve as mascots on the front of dustbin lorries, and I'm pretty sure there was a rescue adventure too. Maybe there was an earlier edition of this book.

The Curious Adventures of the Abandoned Toys by Julian Fellowes.

Amazon's search inside feature also shows a few of the illustrations.

Oh, there's quite a lot of common theme there! I think the one I am looking for was different though, the Boots/Slippers/Socks bears are the bit I remember most clearly. It was in the UK. I like the look of this one too though, and have seen the author (an actor) on TV and film. I'll have a look at it with a view to present for my nieces - my children are a bit too old for it now. Thank you!

Am very excited! I really think this is it, although I'm not sure which in the series I am remembering (with the dustbin lorries) - yes, I am in the UK. You have solved it Sarah, very many thanks! I will get hold of a copy.

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Sally, I added the first one. If you want to come back and let us know which specific book in the series you were searching for, I'll add it too.

Hi Lisa, I'm sorry I don't understand what you mean. I only found the Goodreads site a couple of days ago and I don't know how it works yet! What does "added" mean? Having had a look at some of the other books by Margaret J Baker, I think it MIGHT be "Bears Back In Business", but that is just because the cover picture seems to feature a dustbin lorry complete with mascots. I don't know if there is a way to find out more about the stories in each of the books in the series? Thanks to everyone for a great website, I am really impressed and never thought there would be an answer so quickly!

Lisa Vegan (lisavegan) | 1396 comments Hi Sally, I'm sorry that I wasn't clear. In this group, and many groups here, we have and use bookshelves. From the group's home/main page click on the "bookshelf" link and you'll get to this page:

http://www.goodreads.com/group/booksh...

This is where we're trying to shelve members' found books. Many of the older finds aren't shelved yet, but when members who find a book don't shelve it themselves, I do it for them. I started fairly recently so there's a lot of books not yet shelved, although all the newer posts' books are shelved.

Should I add Bears Back in Business, do you think? Or should I wait until you're sure?

Thanks.

And, Welcome to Goodreads!
