Brittomart Bras are a pain. Just because I weigh 300 pounds, it does not mean I have DD breasts. Yes, there are bras made for plus size women, but those are usually more expensive. AND I can NEVER seem to find my size! It's like when I go shopping for bras, every 42C woman goes shopping on that day too.

I've gotten into the habit of wearing short-shorts. They make my legs look longer, and I feel cute in them. And I don't wear them tight and tacky. Pants cause me trouble because they may fit my waist, but not my thighs.

There was a store, Goodys, where I bought all of my clothes, and they had tasteful plus sized clothes, but the recession killed the one in my town. Lane Bryant is too expensive. Rainbows is a store for more "urban" wear, but it's too tacky and cheaply made. And each and every one of their tops are made to show cleavage. So no.

I always set out to buy more dresses 'cause I like how they make me feel, but my arms are gigantic, so I have to find sleeved ones. If I get over my arm insecurity and try on a sleeveless dress, the front doesn't fit because my breasts are too small. Big girls do not equal HUGE tits!

All of the women on my mom side of the family are around the same size, but I got the smallest breasts of them all. That comes from my dad's side.

Félix (habitseven) I was in Kansas City yesterday, and wandered into Eddie Bauer where they were having an outrageous clearance on cotton shirts -- plus it was tax-free weekend in Missouri, which added to the bonus. I never buy myself clothes, so it was a treat.

Brittomart Misha - I stay in a small town, and we have a Catherine's and a Cato's, but their stuff is way too old for me. And even Lane Bryant, when I go there, none of their stuff really jumps out at me. I just feel like I'm there because it's a store that caters to me. I love the stuff at Torrid.com, but they are too expensive for me unless they are having a 50% off clearance sale.

I really wish Target didn't think plus size was synonymous with maternity 'cause I like the clothes there.

message 4: by ms.petra (new)

ms.petra (mspetra) Britt, do you have Torrid in your area? My girl is 5'4" and plus size and she has found stylish clothes that actually fit properly there. Especially jeans! I also hate shopping because I am one of those in-betweeners on everything. I am 5'7" and regular jeans are too short and tall are too long. M tops are too tight and L too big. I wear 3 different sizes at any time depending on where I shop. Because I wear a uniform at work and jeans or sweats at home, I always feel awkward shopping for more dressy clothes... and high heels and pantyhose, it is just not happening!

message 5: by Brittomart (new)

Brittomart No, I wish we did though! I think a Torrid would be perfect for one of the many empty lots in our mall. Since we already have Aeropostale, Rue 21, American Eagle, Victoria's Secret, PacSun, and Body Shop, I think we deserve it.

Pat (patb37) I would rather go without something than spend time shopping. Women's clothes suck - big time. I can't remember the last time I bought something because I liked it. The colors are hideous, the fabrics are horrid, the construction is lousy. It doesn't matter if I shop high end, the stuff is still crap.

I get really ticked when I buy stuff for my husband. In men's clothing, the colors are great, the fabrics are nice, and its easy to find good stuff.

Generally I buy clothes when I absolutely need something, or the stuff I have has gotten too shabby to wear in public.

I went out shopping for some retail therapy with my daughter on the weekend. I have never been a keen shopper but shopping with my daughter is a fun experience. We bought some wool so I could teach her how to knit.

janine | 7709 comments i love to go shopping, but i'm not doing much of it now, because i don't have that much money, and i really don't need anything. i usually just wear jeans, a t-shirt/blouse and all stars/heels/brogues. the most difficult item to find are the jeans. perfect jeans are very rare, even in regular sizes. because i wear them so much i'm very picky about back pockets, color etc. the perfect skinny, but not too skinny, jeans for a reasonable price is always gone in my size. i'm wearing my favorite jeans now, which i've had for more than two years, maybe three. i'll love it until it dies.

I'm with you, Janine. Enter store, proceed directly to Levi's and pocket t's, leave immediately.

RandomAnthony | 14536 comments I hate dressing rooms. I stand there and wonder if whatever I'm wearing fits properly. That can last a while. But I only buy if I'm sure now. And I don't buy things on sale that I'll never wear.

Books, of course, are retail therapy, but now that I have a fancy phone I use the bookstore for scouting trips and immediately get on the library website to see if my system has a copy of whatever I'm holding so I don't have to purchase it.

I've also shopped less online lately. I don't know why. I just don't want as much stuff.

ms.petra (mspetra) I like going to The Great Indoors, Home Depot, Lowe's, etc. I spend way too much time dreaming of a new fabulous kitchen and doing little jobs around the house. This is much more satisfying than clothes shopping. We are getting an IKEA next summer. :)

Sarah | 13814 comments I hate shopping except for books and music.
Most especially for dresses, since I usually go with my sisters. One is a size 0 and the other is shaped perfectly for clothes off the rack. They hand me beautiful things that would look great on them, and look horrible on me. We're just proportioned differently.

Jackie "the Librarian" | 8991 comments I have to be in the mood to shop for clothes, or it's just not happening. But when it does, I will try on as many pairs of pants as it takes to find some that work. It really takes perserverance, some days.

And now, I won't buy anything I don't immediately love, or doesn't fit quite right. I don't care if it's on sale. It has to be perfect, I have to want to wear it right away, or no go.

I'm a casual dresser. I wear jeans most of the time.

Mary JL (maryjl) | 250 comments NOt counting groceries, I shop as little as possible.

I hate clothes shopping as my legs are short and almost any pants I buy must be hemmed. (Dress? What's that? The last time I wore a dress was 25-plus years ago at my sister's wedding!) I am stricly pantsuit (formal) or blouses and slacks (informal).

Shoes--one fott is 1/2 larger than the other. So I must buy to fit the larger foot; the other shoe always feels too big. Oh, to be able to just grab a pair of shoes and be done!!

I like plain, simple classic jewelry and not much of that--I have several favorite pices now so unless I see something I MUST have Jewelry is not on the shopping list for a while.

LIke most of us here, I think, the aversion to shopping seems to disappear in bookstores; cd and Dvd movie stores and used bookstores. Remarkably, mention those and it disappears instantly....

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) Oh, I know all about shopping being a short girl, but I have the opposite problem. Petite stuff doesn't always work because I'm short waisted and my legs are a normal length.

What works for me is to buy low rise jeans. Those sit on my waist like normal jeans should.

I haven't bought any clothes in the past year, except for bras and underwear. I really don't need to; I have too many clothes as it is. But my expenses have increased in other areas (housing, health insurance) so I'm cutting back in every other area.

I have clothes (not a huge amount, but some) hanging in my closet with the tags still on. About two sizes too small now.

Sounds like The Limited might be going under.

The Wash Post reports:

"On Monday, there was a hint of desperation in The Limited’s web offerings. A homepage banner declared that all sales were final, and a separate page on the site said that returns and exchanges were no longer being offered as of Dec. 14. The apparel seller was offering discounts that were ultra-steep even by holiday season standards: 80 percent off sweaters and 70 percent off the rest of its goods.

Yet another page on its site said “order processing is greatly delayed at this time. Please allow 10 business days for processing.” It is highly unusual for a retailer to build in that kind of lag time to its e-commerce process, particularly when shoppers are racing to put gifts under the tree in time for Christmas."

I don't think I ever bought anything there anyway, so I don't care....except if you work there, it will suck for you to be laid off.

Yes, The Limited is closing all their brick and mortar stores.

In other news, I saw a Spanx store in an airport recently. I did not know they had stores. But it's a good idea, I think. Surely there must be people in need of fat-compressing technology as they go about their travels. "Forgot my girdle."

message 20: by Scout (new)

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Where does that compressed fat end up? Under the arms, I think

Scout (goodreadscomscout) | 3595 comments Saw a Wisp Broom on TV today and ordered one. Anything to make cleaning a little easier. I still use a Swiffer sometimes in hard-to-reach places, but it doesn't pick up everything. I have hardwood floors and would rather sweep than drag a vacuum cleaner around.
