What book is currently taking up your time?

I'm reading The Name of the Wind (Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss . It's very good!

message 2: by Arch (new)

Arch | 91 comments I'm reading Kill and Tell by Linda Howard . My boy (John Medina) hasn't walked on the scene yet.

message 3: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I'm reading Eternal Kiss of Darkness right now. It's pretty good.

message 4: by Love love (new)

Love love | 44 comments I'm reading Lily by Patricia Gaffney , though it's no Anne Stuart, she could have written the H. Devon's an anti-hero so far, just the way I like them.lol

message 5: by Othena (new)

Othena I'm doing a repeat of Wicked Pleasure. I was in mood for something steamy.

message 7: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. I finished Midnight Alley (The Morganville Vampires, #3) by Rachel Caine and am now reading Naked Dragon (Works Like Magick, #1) by Annette Blair .

message 8: by Love love (new)

Love love | 44 comments I finished Lily by Patricia Gaffney and now I'm onto Untamed (MacKinnon's Rangers Trilogy, #2) by Pamela Clare . I'm only on page 68 so far and I'm really hoping the H escapes from his captors soon, I don't like my H's helpless and not in control. =(

message 9: by Nilofer (last edited Aug 23, 2010 02:20AM) (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 29 comments I just finished 4 of the Demonata series by Darren Shan, I like to read whatever my 14 yr old son is into, they were okay but really gross, in terms of blood and gore. Am trying to get thru A Fine Passion by Stephanie Laurens, but finding it very heavy going, and doubt I can finish it - I usually like her stuff, but definitely not this one! Am a fan of Eva Ibbotson, and have just opened her children's novel The Star of Kazan, which my daughter just finished. Oh, and am 50 pages into 20th Century Ghosts, by Joe Hill, Stephen King's boy, which is one of the best short story collections I have read in ages.

message 10: by Carolyn F. (new)

Carolyn F. Finished Vacations from Hell by Libba Bray and am now reading He, She and It by Marge Piercy .

message 11: by Othena (new)

Othena I finished Veil of Night A Novel by Linda Howard today. I'm planning on A Not-So-Perfect Past (Harlequin Superromance) by Beth Andrews next.

Carolyn F. I finished He, She and It by Marge Piercy and am now reading Spider's Bite (Elemental Assassin, #1) by Jennifer Estep .

message 14: by Love love (new)

Love love | 44 comments I'm almost finished with A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) by Kresley Cole and I'm not sure what to read next. I've really liked this book and I watched the book trailer on youtube for Dark Lover (Black Dagger Brotherhood, #1) by J.R. Ward and that looked really good so I might read that one next.

Noelle, I'm glad you liked AHLNO. I was hoping you would. Dark Lover is pretty good, but the series gets even better.

Carolyn, I'm excited to read Spider's Bite.

I'm pretty surprised that I liked it as much as I did. Now my only problem is that other than Dark Lover the only other prn book that I have right now is The Man Within (Breeds, #2) by Lora Leigh and I feel like I should spread them out a little and make them last.lol

Personally, I like to break up genres. I mix things up when I read.

I know what you mean. When that happens, I reach for a sure thing. :)

message 20: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) I just started To Have and To Hold (Victorian Trilogy) by Patricia Gaffney by Patricia Gaffney. It reminds me a bit so far of an AS book -- the hero is DARK...a rake almost beyond redemption.

message 21: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Gotta Have My AS Fix! (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 347 comments Mod
Tammy, I read To Have and To Hold, and I agree. I thought it was a very good book. I don't know if it would work as a romance for all readers, but I enjoyed it.

message 22: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) I'm thinking, Danielle, that you and I share a love of the same type of hero - is he the one they are now calling an "omega"?

message 23: by Danielle The Book Huntress , Gotta Have My AS Fix! (new)

Danielle The Book Huntress (gatadelafuente) | 347 comments Mod
Tammy, I've seen 'gamma' used. But it's confusing, because they also use gamma for a hero who is part beta and alpha. I tend to call them dangerous heroes myself.

message 24: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Good point -- whatever we call 'em, I like 'em. ;)

Me too!

message 26: by Love love (new)

Love love | 44 comments Well now it looks like I'll have to add another book to my October book order! lol I've only read one of Patricia Gaffney's books (Lily) and I loved it, so now it looks like I'll have to buy 'To Have and To Hold' too. =)

willaful | 45 comments If you loved Lily, To Have and to Hold will rock your world. :-)

Love love | 44 comments willaful wrote: "If you loved Lily, To Have and to Hold will rock your world. :-)"

That's good to know.lol I do have her book Crooked Hearts by Patricia Gaffney in my tbr. So my question is, does she write all of her heros as a anti-hero, gamma or what ever??? If so I'll move CH up on my to read list.lol

message 29: by willaful (new)

willaful | 45 comments All of Gaffney's books are quite different and she writes many different types of characters. Crooked Hearts is more funny than dark. The hero is a con-man, so a bit of an anti-hero, but not in dark way.

message 30: by Love love (new)

Love love | 44 comments Thanks willaful, now I know to read it when I'm in the mood for something a little lighter and funny. =)

message 31: by Othena (new)

Othena I'm in middle of The Darkest Kiss (Lords of the Underworld, #2) by Gena Showalter and I'm loving this series.

I'm reading Unnatural Selection (Hellboy) by Tim Lebbon and The Darkest Passion (Lords of the Underworld, #5) by Gena Showalter

message 40: by Nilofer (new)

Nilofer (nilofers) | 29 comments I read some of Gena Showalter's Atlantis series, The Nymph King (Atlantis, #3) by Gena Showalter The Vampire's Bride (Atlantis, #4) by Gena Showalter and Jewel of Atlantis (Atlantis, #2) by Gena Showalter really because I'd read extracts from LOTU (okay, and the covers) but stopped because the writing wasn't that great. The chapters I'd browsed thru of LOTU seemed excellent - anyone else read the Atlantis series?

Apart from that, currently reading A Regency Valentine 2 (Super Regency, Signet) by Mary Balogh with short stories by Mary Balogh and Edith Layton, a real find at a UBS as I'm a Mary Balogh fan (and haven't got access to libraries here!) and the first of the Sookie Stackhouse books, which I found hilarious, but maybe too much sex vs plot for me (I know, how can I say that!) for the whodunnit style. Dead Until Dark (Sookie Stackhouse, #1) by Charlaine Harris

Nilofer, I became a fan of GS with her Atlantis books. I think the LOTU series is better--more intense, pretty dark, a little humor, but more serious than the Atlantis books. The first one is kind of rough, but it's a great series.

message 42: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) Just started Hidden Honor- can't wait til I have some uninterrupted reading time!

I need to reread that one. I truly enjoyed it. Liked the couple very much.

message 46: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 12 comments I loved that book too. But then, I haven't found an Anne Stuart book I haven't loved. I loved the setting - it's a bit out of the ordinary.

And I liked the monkish hero. :)

message 48: by Ruth (new)

Ruth | 12 comments Oh yes. He really struggles with his feelings, his duty and his past.

message 49: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) I'm just about done it -- I like the hero very much, and the Elizabeth as well. My only complaint (and not a big one) is I would have liked more about his past. It's mentioned a bit, but I'd like to get to know him a bit better ;) Otherwise, great book!

message 50: by Tammy (new)

Tammy Walton Grant (tamgrant) So far this weekend I've finished Hidden Honor by Anne Stuart , started and bailed on Her Fearful Symmetry by Audrey Niffenegger (blech - there's 2 hours of my life I'll never get back) and started Lord of Scoundrels (Scoundrels, #3) by Loretta Chase - I'm really looking forward to reading this one.
