Morgan (morganannie) What I've read and LOVED:
Sookie Stackhouse series
Night Huntress series
Black Dagger Brotherhood series
Fallen Angels book #1

I really enjoyed the world building and character development in these series. Any recommendations for paranormal romance after these? I'm looking for can't-put-it-down kind of stuff. The kind where you finish one book and can't wait to read the next in the series. I'd appreciate any recommendations!

Thanks!

Lory (moty) | 103 comments I will recomend Gena Showalter Lords of the Underworld.

Abrown Brown (airportgirl1) | 50 comments Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark Series
Nalini Singh's Psy-Changeling Series
Alyssa Day's Warriors of Poseidon
Larissa Ione's Demonica Series

I have enjoyed all of of the above and would highly recommend them. Nalni Singh is a particular favorite of mine. Love those changelings!!

Beth | 4 comments You should read The undead Heart by Tate Jackson. Her webite is http://www.theundeadheart.yolasite.com. You can read the first chapter there for free. It's also on sale right now for .99 on amazon.com/kindlebooks I loved this book and can't wait for the next one to be released. Does anyone know when the next book in The Blood Thirst Series is due out and what the title is goning to be?

Shannon C. | 69 comments I also loved Sookie, BDB and Cat/Bones. Here are some other great paranormal romance series (4-5 stars each). Can't put them down!

Immortals After Dark series by Kresley Cole (one of the best PNR series out there--I especially love her Lykaes aka werewolves)

Tairen Soul series by CL Wilson (fantastic fantasy romance series with terrific world building)

Guild Hunters series and Psy-Changelings series by Nalini Singh (Highly original PNR series--both are excellent) **note: first Guild Hunters book is called Angel's Blood. Do NOT read descriptions or look at the cover of the second book otherwise you will ruin the awesome surprise ending of Angel's Blood.**

Dark Hunter series by Sherrilyn Kenyon (Good world building, early books are better)

Little Goddess series by Amy Lane (Excellent character development, heartwrenching at times)

Demonica books by Larissa Ione (Early books I thought were good, the last one was terrific--best in series)

World of Lupi series by Eileen Wilks (Great mix of suspense/mystery with PNR, books 2 & 4 were weakest in series--good not great--but other books are all great)

Pride Stories by Shelly Laurenston (funny, terrific characters & storylines)

Since Sookie is urban fantasy w/some romance in the storyline, I thought you like like some of my other favs in that genre also:

Mercy Thompson series and Alpha & Omega series by Patricia Briggs (Don't miss the anthology in On the Prowl, which is a prequel to Cry Wolf)

Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews

Cassandra Palmer series and Dorina Basarab Dhampir series by Karen Chance (Don't miss the anthology in On the Prowl, which should be read between Midnight's Daughter and Death's Mistress)...I liked Dory better than Cassie

Chicagoland Vampires series by Chloe Neill

One more...Downside Ghosts by Stacia Kane.

You need to read Nalini Singh (maybe), Larissa Ione, Kresley Cole (maybe), and Chloe Neill.

And of course, let us not forget The Man Himself--Harry Dresden. The first book in the series Storm Front was also a first novel sale, so its the weakest of the series. But I do love me that tall wizard.

Deanne | 209 comments I second Nalini Singh both of her series were outstanding I could not put them down

message 10: by Kelleigh (new)

Kelleigh (goodreadscomsunshine2047) You must read the Fever series by Karen Marie Moning...best series I've ever read!

Love BDB and Night huntress too, but Fever tops them all in my opinion.

Good choices. Love them all!

message 12: by Scarlet (new)

Scarlet (extraordinarygirl86) | 81 comments Since you like the Sookie Stackhouse series I highly recommend Richelle Mead's Georgina Kincaid series. The series is about a succubus that dreams of having a normal life with a husband and a child. Like Sookie Stackhouse, Georgina is always finding herself smack dab in the middle of solving mysteries concerning the supernatural world. It also features an array of supernatural and mythical characters.

And Richelle Mead also has another series that I love, Vampire Academy. The plot actually reminds me quite a bit of Buffy The Vampire Slayer (the 2nd season especialy), so if you like that show then you'll probably enjoy Vampire Academy too.

message 13: by Caramelle (last edited Sep 09, 2010 03:57PM) (new)

Caramelle | 106 comments Sorry for reviving an old thread, but need opinions!

I'm currently reading and will be finishing:
No Mercy (Dark-Hunter, #19) (Were-Hunter, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

plan on reading these next:
Sin Undone (Demonica, #5) by Larissa Ione Clockwork Angel (The Infernal Devices, #1) by Cassandra Clare

then....reading the following series that I already own:
(I had a plan to read them in a certain order, but that was completely ignored and now im confused!)
The Nymph King (Atlantis, #3) by Gena Showalter The Darkest Night (Lords of the Underworld, #1) by Gena Showalter Nightlife (Cal Leandros, #1) by Rob Thurman Bitten (Women of the Otherworld, #1) by Kelley Armstrong Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Covet (The Fallen Angels, #1) by J.R. Ward
I've already read Heart of the Dragon and Jewel of Atlantis, before the August/September books (Sin Undone, Clockwork Angel & No Mercy) were released. So that series was put on hold till I caught up with my priority books).
Since Covet is just the start of the series, It's not a high priority book either....

BUT!!! The following series are recommended...and im very intrigued to purchase them:
Moon Called (Mercedes Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs Succubus Blues (Georgina Kincaid, #1) by Richelle Mead Stray (Shifters, #1) by Rachel Vincent The Vampire Queen's Servant (Vampire Queen, #1) by Joey W. Hill Riding the Storm (ACRO, #1) by Sydney Croft Touch the Dark (Cassandra Palmer, #1) by Karen Chance
PNR Hunk's thread is bad...but OH So very, very bad good.

----
SO! If anyone would be kind enough to recommend 2 of the series I own and 2 of series to be purchased, so that I may retain whatever sanity I have left, while having a starting point and read the ones I that own while I track down the ones I would like to purchase....that would be awesomely appreciated!

new_user | 1389 comments Ah, very interesting selection you have there, Caramelle. They're pretty widely varying. What do you like best in your UF/PNR, a strong, sexy romance? Based on the fact you're coming here from the hunk thread... ;) I'm going to guess you like plenty of perspective on a sexy -maybe bad?- hero. So I recommend Bitten and Angel's Blood, definitely, from your Own. Those heroes are sexy and dangerous, LOL. In Angel's Blood, especially, the hero is powerful and dark. And in these two, the hero is not just a prop or one in a cast of many hunks for the heroine's delectation.

Your Purchase list is a little harder... Hill's and Croft's series are erotica or near enough, with that particular Hill book featuring 24/7 femdom, if you don't mind that. I would suggest Moon Called or possibly Stray (I haven't read that one). Moon Called doesn't have a lot of romance or sexual content, but it has hotties and there's some tension. One can dream, LOL. Plus, it's good all around.

Cara--I have read The Nymph King and, well, frankly it was a really weak read. But if you've read the other 2 and want to keep reading this series, then you HAVE to read this to get to better ones. :o)

Bitten I didn't like--but the rest of the series is good.

Now Angels' Blood is really GOOD. And, since you h aven't read a lot, its a nice simple series to get caught up on, since there is only this book, a short story that comes next in Must Love Hellhounds and then the next one. HOwever, book 3 is getting ready to come out, so you'll want to get caught up quickly. All of which boils down to--this should be one of the 2 you read.

Then the ones you are going to try to track down. . .

DEFINATELY the Moon Called. a seriously good series with plenty of yummy hunks. Even if there isn't a lot of sex. Its pretty much UF, altho a romance does develop as the books go along.

The second book for the "what I'm looking to buy next" is harder for me to point out to you. I am now re-reading the Cassie Palmer books, because its been a VERY long time (when they first came out) since I read them and I don't remember a lot about the 2 that I did read. But, I guess if you are into mythology (and from what I remember) don't mind UF, this would be a good series.

For more reference, my fave series include:
Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter
Chloe Neill's Chicagoland Vampires
Jeaniene Frost's Night Huntress
Karen Marie Moning's Fever
Cassandra Clare's Mortal Instruements
JR Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood

---
I was reading into the other series. Some seem a little to erotic. But if the storyline is good enough and isnt overtaken by the sex scenes, I'm open to it.

An example I've been notified is the Anita Blake series. I've heard it was a good series, but then the more recent books have been overtaken by sex scenes. So, that turned me off in checking out the series.

I've read a little too many vampire books, so im trying to ween off into other PNR genres.

As for what I like in a series..um I'll try to list em.
- incredible men...obviously
- strong females
- SOME romance. or flirting. teasing. it doesnt have to be heavy duty - lol. sorta contradicts some of the series I listed
- doesnt have to end in HEA
- a little suspense. mystery

...overall a great storyline.

---
Thank-you!
If you have any other series worth recommending, please do so! I'm always open to new series! :)

Jana Hopkins | 21 comments I really enjoyed the Keri Arthur, Riley Jenson Guardian Series.

Full Moon Rising
Kissing Sin
Tempting Evil
Dangerous Games
Embraced in Darkness
Darkest Kiss
Bound By Shadows
Deadly Desire
Moon Sworn

I also recommend Kim Harrison.

Dead Witch Walking Hallows book 1
Good, Bad, and the Undead Hallows book 2
Every Which way but Dead
A Fistful of Charms
For a Few Demons More
The Outlaw Demon Wails

I would recommend both of these series to anyone who enjoys paranormal romance.

I am new to this site and trying to get my 900 line spread sheet loaded in for books read and at this rate it is going to take Forever! But eventually I will get it put in.

I personally came to this site because I am looking myself for new series and/or authors to read. So I hope my comments add to your to read list.

I can honestly tell you...I have never heard of these books. But i'll look into them!

I too came to this site to use it as a reference. I think i used it a little too well. My collection of books has turned into a library. Lol! Fortunately, I've really liked even loved some of the books that were recommended. Only a very few were not as adored.

Thank-you! You may have contributed to my library as well! :)

Lol! I just realized I have not read your post! Sorry! It must have been posted while I was typing my reply!

The Nymph King is still on my to-read list, because I've head great reviews on Gena Showalter's LOTU series and a lot of people like The Vampire's Bride. So I'm still interested in completing the series. Its just not a priority. Yet.

Concerning Kelley Armstrong's WOTO, I've read her Darkest Powers trilogy. I was absolutely bored with the first book. But loved the second and third book! So, I think its just having the motivation to get through her first book of the series. Im hoping im right.

For Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series. Aren't there two books out?
Angels' Blood (Guild Hunter, #1) by Nalini Singh Archangel's Kiss (Guild Hunter, #2) by Nalini Singh
I haven't heard of the of the novella. But have heard of the prequel novella Angels' Pawn.
The next book:
Archangel's Consort (Guild Hunter, #3) by Nalini Singh
will be out next year.

As for the ones I'm still considering, Patricia Briggs and the Karen Chance are highly recommended.
In the end, I dont mind if there's not a lot of romance, just as long as its a great storyline! If the characters have mind-blowing, neighbourhood disturbing, leave you in a state of numbness afterwards sex, but completely lack a storyline, then it wont be a good series for me. But if the series has both...wooho!!

So I'll look more into the recommendation. Thank-you!

Me too. You have to read those books!

message 20: by new_user (new)

new_user | 1389 comments Chance's series doesn't really have romance... As for Keri Arthur's series, I have to warn you the heroine sleeps around. That's why I've never picked it up.

And yes, there are two books in the Guild Hunters series, Angel's Blood and Archangel's Kiss. Don't worry about Angel's Pawn. You'll actually understand it better after reading the first or second books.

Crazy4more (lan-ni) | 3070 comments Caramelle, so many books right? I read Angels' Blood by chance and I just love this series. I will continue N.Singh's Psy. I also have the Highlanders by Moning to read too. I heard much about IAD by Coles. And I hear good things about Chance's series too. Good luck picking out what's next.

Jana Hopkins | 21 comments "Ann aka Iftcan wrote: As for the ones I'm still considering, Patricia Briggs and the Karen Chance are highly recommended."

Both get another recommendation from me. I love both authors.

Oh another recommended author is Jenna Black.

Morgan Kingsley Series:
The Devil Inside
The Devil you Know
The Devil's Due
Speak of the Devil
The Devils Playground

Guardians of the Night Series

Secrets in the Shadows
Shadows of the Soul
Hungers of the Heart

I like her writing style and very strong female heroines.

Morgan (morganannie) After starting this thread, I started the Psy-Changeling series by Nalini Singh. I'm really liking it. Nice world building. I'm on book #5 now (Hostage to Pleasure). When I'm done with this I'll probably either try Angels' Blood or I might try the Demonica series again. I started Pleasure Unbound a while back and couldn't get into it but it seems to be a favorite of many people here so I'll give it another go.

I'm interested in reading the Psy-Changeling books. Possibly after the Guild Hunters. I wanna try out one of her series first before committing to another, longer one.

The Demonica series is pretty good. Unfortunately, it didnt make my top 5, but possibly my top 10. I havent started Sin Undone, i may do so tonight.

LOL!! Yes! UGH!!! Im really gonna need a new bookshelf - or an entire room just for books! :)

So far, I've added another condition for what series to get.

- Whatever is on sale at the online store (chapters.indigo.ca). I currently have a coupon that gives me a discount on an online order.

So, It totally reduced the selection until there's another 'buy 3 get the 4th free' in-store! Those cause major damage!!

(giggling) boy, I wish all I needed was a SINGLE room for my addic--er I mean hobby. :oP I have 11 7 ft. tall bookcases crammed with books in my family room (hey, who needs wall space for pictures, right?), floor to ceiling shelves along 1 10 ft wall in my guest room that are full and then in my bedroom I have a 9 ft. wide wall that is again, floor to ceiling bookshelves. And yeah, they ARE all crammed. :o) Then I have a Nook with, well, um, (mumbling 863) books on IT. I'm thinking I need to get a second memory chip for my Nook so that I can store even MORE books on it. Oh, yea--and the books on the Nook--are NOT duplicates of ones that I own in dead tree.

But I am NOT an addict. Not me, no sir. I just check out my Mum's and my Aunt June's when I go to visit my Mum. That reassures me. :oP Between the 2 of them, they probably own 4 or 5 times as many books as I do.

I currently have the Wolves of Mercy Falls in my 'shopping bag'. A friend is reading them at the moment and seriously recommended them.

I have read the Darkest Powers trilogy. I was absolutely bored with the first book and was even reconsidering completing the trilogy. But I did since i was already reading them and owned them. Im glad that I did. I really enjoyed the second and third book.

I haven't read the House of Night series. I may look into those in the near future.
