Jason | 176 comments Poll is now up. I choose to go with the theme of up and coming authors/ newer ones you might not have heard of. I hope everyone decides to vote.

Branden (cinefessions) | 235 comments Will you put up a different option for Floating Staircase or just delete the option (since it doesn't look like it's being released until the 28th of September)?

message 3: by Scott (new)

Scott I wish I knew what any of these books were. Isn't there a way to include links or at least covers?

message 4: by Branden (last edited Aug 10, 2010 08:09PM) (new)

Branden (cinefessions) | 235 comments The links are underneath the poll. You should find the book covers there (at least I did).

Here, Scott, click this link. This should take you to the page I saw with the covers:

Scott Oh, you have to click on comments.

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments I'M looking forward to 'Gil's All Fright Diner.' I've been wanting to read this little gem for awhile now. Plus, at this point in the poll it's winning...I'm actually looking forward to the October group read, now will we read a book that is closely related to Halloween, or something special. Since that is most horror fans favorite holiday, the weird and macabre.

message 7: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments Pandemonium looks somewhat promising, I wish I could find more fiction books that dealt with the occult and exorcisms, the only one i THOROUGHLY liked through and through was 'The Exorcist,' by Blatty.

message 8: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Halloween is my favorite holiday. Books and movies on demonic possession scare the wits out of me. Have you seen The Exorcism of Emily Rose? I liked it better than The Exorcist.

message 9: by jb (new)

jb Byrkit (jbbyrkit) | 2035 comments Tressa - I saw that movie....I liked it too. I have not seen The Exorcist.

Zuzana Urbanek | 391 comments I snagged a copy of Gil's All Fright Diner on SWAP! Woo hoo!

I love Halloween too -- decorate more for that than for Xmas!

message 11: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments I have a lot of those cool pottery pumpkins that we line our walk with or trail down our front steps. We have a huge tree that we put a spider's nest on and attach big spiders with a spotlight pointed at it.

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments My daughter wouldn't trick-or-treat at your house T!

message 13: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments scooped up gil's all fright diner the other day as well

message 14: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana Urbanek | 391 comments Just finished Gil's All Fright Diner and loved the living daylights out of it! What a hysterically funny little book! OK, OK, so I couldn't wait until September. Now I'll have to take something else along on my trip. :D

message 15: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Did you like it better than Breathers, Zuzanna?

message 16: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 4052 comments I'm thinking of saving Gil's for later. I want to read Let's Go Play At the Adams, the Ring series, and Let the Right One In first. I'll probably start on Let the Right One In since there's a great movie on it.

message 17: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Loved the movie and book of LTROI. Read the book after the movie, and a lot was explained in the book that confused me in the movie.

Hee hee. Can't wait to hear what you think about Adams.

Oh, no, Breathers is the BEST! But Gil's is definitely a fun and distracting read. I laughed out loud.

I loved it when I read it a few years ago too. He has other books too so we'll have to try them as well :)

message 20: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments ok so 'breathers' is awesome?, i've heard some rave reviews and some not so rave reviews, someone was telling me they use some annoying catch phrase way too much-like you wouldnt understand unless you're a zombie or something like that?, idk, but i want to buy it, so someone give me a reason

message 21: by Zuzana (last edited Aug 24, 2010 04:03PM) (new)

Zuzana Urbanek | 391 comments Yeah, there is that catch phrase and it's an idiosyncrasy of Andy's (the main character) that I found funny -- I can see someone being annoyed by it being used several times, but that's personal. You know, humor especially is so subjective! But most of us in HA, I think, loved it! If you like satire and a searing look at society (through the eyes of a downtrodden zombie) -- plus a hilarious read -- you'll love it.

message 22: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments i think i will get it then, since you are a professional zUZANA, thanks a lot, i will let you know how i like it!

message 23: by Zuzana (new)

Zuzana Urbanek | 391 comments Ha! Don't give me so much credit -- or the blame if you don't like it. :D
(but I think you will)

message 24: by Aloha (new)

Aloha | 4052 comments Zuzana, it's tough being at the top. It gives people a great place to aim at. :oD

message 25: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments zuzana, either way you get my respect and credit, and i'm sure i will to.

message 26: by Zuzana (last edited Aug 24, 2010 07:26PM) (new)

Zuzana Urbanek | 391 comments Wait ... let me put my waders on.
:P

Did anyone else jump the gun on reading Gil's? I know some people read it in the past. I really enjoyed it -- it cheered me up with divine ridiculousness right when I needed it! :)

message 27: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments i did not 'jump the gun,' i'm waiting like a patient school boy, and i'm reading short cormac mccarthy novel in the meantime

message 28: by Bryan (new)

Bryan Galstere (ThenewAmericanPsycho) | 219 comments a short*

message 29: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Breathers is a very funny book, although, unlike Zu, I thought it petered out in the end. But you can't help but love a book about a man who bathes in Pine-sol. There is a turkey scene at Thanksgiving that still makes me laugh when I think about it.

message 30: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments Remind me of the turkey scene T! I really wish I could remember everything I read :o(

message 31: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments His mom cooked a turkey and the main character zombie started to feel a kinship with it because it was dead and could easily be pulled apart, so he grabbed it up and there was a struggle between him and his dad. I LMAO at this scene. Every scene between the disgusted father and his zombie son is comedy gold.

message 32: by Amy (new)

Amy (bibliocrates) | 426 comments Ah, yes! I remember the parents now! The mother was trying to be supportive while the father was utterly disturbed! I'd really like to add this one to my PC.

message 33: by Tressa (new)

Tressa (moanalisa) | 19903 comments Yes, the mother was funny in her own right. Loved how she'd put makeup on his face and was able to hold her own disgust in check better than her husband was able to do.
