Robin | 2 comments Ok so I am sure I will get lots of recommendations but I really appreciate the ones from people who like the same books and dislike the same books I do as those will be the ones most likely to recommend the authors I will like.

First who I have tried and not gotten through Weiss (her dwarfs were annoying and her assassin with the kid plot I wasn't digging.) Martin and Donaldson (I like action but am not into lots of rape kids getting killed and weird violence).

I loved Eddings and Brooks when I was a kid. And the most recent authors that I have read through are Feist and Gemmell. Love, love them!

Any recommendations, especially ones that like Gemmell and Feist are appreciated!

Janny (jannywurts) | 156 comments Have a look at Dennis McKiernan, David Eddings Belgeriad, and perhaps Michael Sullivan's Riyria Revelations series.

Robin | 2 comments I read all of Eddings when I was a kid, and loved them as I wrote. McKiernan I read several of as an adult and thought they were mediocre.

So if you think McKiernan is mediocre and Fiest and Gemmell rule please let me know what you have read that is similar.

Joseph Mitchell | 7 comments I just finished reading "The Hunger Games" and really liked it. The writing was very tight and kept me interested through the whole book.

I just got back from my public library looking for the next two books and found out the third hasn't been released yet. While searching the catalog, I found the third book listed under the wrong title, calling it 'Mockingbird' instead of 'Mockingjay'. I read the first line of the description to make sure it was the right book, and BAM! Major Spoiler. Spoiled the second book for me. I hate that. I'm still eagerly looking forward to reading the next books though.

Lauren Willshire (lillyobrian) | 5 comments Hey Guys :)
I have an off topic question. I read this story a long time ago where humanity put all their criminals on a space ship and set the course for this far off planet and its about three generations later that they reach the planet and its not livable so they have to find another one etc. Until their is only a few cave-manlike children left when they finally find a home. Does anyone know the title or the author of this novel? I really want to read it again but I can't remember and I lost it in the move from one state to the next. Help!!! :)

Chronicles of The Black Company by Glen Cook was an amazing series. If you like Feist or Robert Jordan you will like glen cook.

M. B. I absolutely loved David Eddings' books as well as Feist. Another author and series I thought was well done was Tad William's Memory, Sorrow and Thorn series. It starts with The Dragonbone Chair. Followed by Stone of Farewell, and To Green Angel Tower( I actually got the last volume in to two books). Check it out! It's worth it!

Sara | 1 comments The Black Prism by Brent Weeks was recently published and it's an excellent read! Epic fantasy at his best, well-rounded, developed "grey" characters, an interesting and original magic system and plenty of twists (some amazing ones you'll never see coming).
The only problem is once you've read it you can't wait for the next books to come out!

Mike Shevdon (shevdon) I think you might like Assassin's Apprentice by Robin Hobb which kicks off an excellent series, though her other series, The Mad Ship Traders, didn't work for me.

The excellent The Blade Itself by Joe Abercrombie is a superb epic fantasy - quite dark in places, but also with great humour and fantastic characters.

If you can get hold of a copy, The Time of the Dark is a fantastic kick-off to the Darwath series. Really atmospheric and a beautiful and realistically portrayed pseudo-medieval world where church, state and magic are in an uneasy alliance against the mysterious creatures of The Dark. One of my absolute favourites.
