What's the Name of That Book??? discussion

Does anybody know the title of a book with these annoying little conversations taking place in the side margins of the pages? I seem to remember the story being about a woman who works at Woolworth's and her husband is a soda pop inventor.

Any suggestions would be helpful... this is driving me crazy!! Thanks a million!
