Riana | 397 comments Well usually I listen to what I call a "feel good" song, I turn the volume up real loud, dance and sing (or I at least do that in my mind if I am surrounded by people) and repeat it untill I feel better! And these songs are usually very embarrassing songs - it adds to the fun of it! For example (don't you guys dare laugh!) I'm On My Way - The Proclaimers, My Heart Beats for Love / Two More Lonely People - Miley Cyrus, Toxic - Britney Spears and The Way You Make Me Feel - Micheal Jackson.

Lu, I stopped smoking lol, 4 days already wooo hooo!
So I can't do that.
So I'm reading... bored at work, but trying to keep busy and not think of this person!

message 204: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments Well done Niecole! Keep at it! I am quitting today! Decided it at breakfast, think it is a good weekend to stop haha

How long have you stopped smoking Lu?

message 205: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Thats great news Niecole!

Niecole wrote: "Ok so next question...

How do you cheer up when someone has p-ed you off so early in the morning!"

Normally, if someone has seriously annoyed me early in the morning, it means it was my colleague who seems to exist solely to try my patience in every possible way. I deal with it by going to play with some of my favourite snakes, most of which she refuses to handle for various reasons!!

message 207: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments Wow well done Lu! I read the other day that they found that if you stop smoking for 9 years there is a 75% chance you will not ever smoke again. I was like WHAT?!? Who is this other 25% that started smoking again after 9 years? Are they insane?!?

And Varla, now don't go giving me ideas, I have 4 colleagues that drive me insane and now I am thinking of getting myself a snake tank on my desk!

Snake on your desk may solve the problem. Certain staff members won't even come to our office as it is in the Snake Park!

message 210: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments I must say I actually like snakes, I honestly don't know a lot about them, so I won't go petting one in the wild but I am fine with "pet snakes" if I can call it that. I like the way they feel! Spiders on the other hand...

I love snakes (I guess that is kind of a given, based on what job I have), but am still very cautious with any snake I don't know personally. And if I don't know what species it is, I will not touch it. I may interact with it, but I will use the correct tools to minimise the chance of a bite.

That is something you should do with any animal you don't know. I mean be cautious. Even with cats and dogs you don't know. Animals will be animals and can react in unpredictable ways.

Oh, yeah. Totally!

Of course, that makes me think of Pink Panther...

"Does your dog bite?"
"No"
Pet, pet, BITE.
"I thought you said your dog doesn't bite."
"That is not my dog."

We have a saying: "Doet 'ie anders nooit, hoor!" Translated it means: "that is something he has never done before." It was made famous in a commercial on tv years ago when a dog bit a person and its owner said it. Now it is used jokingly everytime an animal does something unexpected. But it does illustrate that animals no matter how well behaved or trained will always surprise you when you least expect it.

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments If your house caught on fire, what would be one item that you would save. (Not yourself ofcourse) :-)

message 216: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments I am having Fantasy book withdrawal symptoms, here is how I read your question :
If your horse caught on fire ...
Twice in a row. Only got it right on the third try. XD

An item, not person/animal, I want to say my Kindle! And that's probably what I'll grab too when I'm all panicked and if I happen to be in my bedroom at the time. There are more sensible things, sure, but when I'm panicking all sense just leaves me. :P

If we indeed leave out living beings, since I would obviously grab my cats and probably get killed for it, because Bastet takes some effort before you can grab her, I would grab two items. Since they are literally next to each other I don't feel like that is cheating. One is a small urn which contains the ashes of my first cat. (Yeah I know I am weird I had my cat cremated and have her ashes at home.) The second is a small wooden box which contains my backups. It has several usb thingies (do you call them sticks or drives I'm never sure) with all my files on them and several memory cards with thousands of photo's.

message 220: by [deleted user] (new)

Ok next question

If you had time to read only one last book, which book would you read? (Not sure if this has been asked before)

message 221: by Riana (new)

Riana | 397 comments Well I choose The Chronicles of Narnia - my complete omnibus... Beats choosing one book only :-)

message 222: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I have the complete works of William Shakespear, Oscar Wilde or Edgar Allan Poe. So that would be even more work to read through.
But I honestly don't know what I would read.

message 223: by [deleted user] (new)

lol those are a lot of books to get through ladies!!!
I'm not sure which one I'd choose either...

message 224: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) The Hunger Games, I could read it again and again! (and again and again and again and again)

message 225: by [deleted user] (new)

I love The Hunger Games.

What is your favorite book to movie adaption?

Mine: Perks of being a wallflower

message 227: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) Harry Potter series..

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Lu (Sugar & Snark) wrote: "What is your favorite book to movie adaption?

Perks of Being a Wallflower was so well done! I was reluctant to watch it, but very glad I did in the end.

Harry Potter series would be my favourite as well. :)

message 229: by [deleted user] (new)

Harry Potter most obviously....
Haven't seen Perks yet... but I am going to catch up on some serious movie time this weekend (I hope)
I must say that this is not my favorite, but I did enjoy Percy Jackson... with all the stars they got to play in it, made it pretty cool.

message 230: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) Perks is quite lovely, although I'm only halfway through the book now. The movie actually made me want to read the book, so it's definitely a great adaption.

message 231: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith A toss-up between Solaris and The Prestige, both of which I think are excellent movies with interesting differences from the source material.

message 232: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Silence of the lambs was a pretty good adaptation, and how can we forget Carrie? Lord of the rings (Far better than the book which is unusual)

message 233: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I actually want to watch Carrie soon. I never did see it.

message 234: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) So my question of the day is:

Do you read manga? And if so, which?

message 235: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Never read any Manga and wouldnt know what to read even if I did. What is Manga anyway? Is it like Anime but in comic form?

message 236: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) Yes Emma, it's the comics from which the anime's come.. Quite fun to read, the Sense of humor is really good in most of them, even in the horror genre you'll have a character that's quirky.

message 237: by Emma (new)

Emma (emmauk007) | 1081 comments Kelly wrote: "Yes Emma, it's the comics from which the anime's come.. Quite fun to read, the Sense of humor is really good in most of them, even in the horror genre you'll have a character that's quirky."

Ahh ok...maybe you could recommend some good ones to read then (Sorry totally off topic) :-)

I do have lots of anime, but havent gotten aroundto watching any of them yet. My brother in law has tons. There is Death Note, Naruto Shipuuden,Cowboy Bepop,Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and a few others. Never tried to get the Manga Comics though.

message 238: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) Well, some of the best are naruto, bleach, D.Gray-Man, Ah! My Goddess, one piece, history's strongest disciple Kenichi.. If you tell me more of what genre you like I can narrow it down for you!

Anime is great, but you have to get into it. I often find myself only reading the subs and missing what's going on on screen..

message 239: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I read Basilisk. Not really my thing. I've watched a few anime movies and series. They're ok, but not something I'd seek out.

I really dont min subtitles at all. I love japanese moies nd when I was younger I used to sty up late to watch hese really weird Japanese films with subtitles. Could no even tell you what genre I like, maybe I should take time to watch some first.

message 241: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) Good idea!

message 242: by Sharle (new)

Sharle (mizzkruger) | 110 comments I've never actually read manga but I used to watch some anime back in the day. I really liked Elfen Lied, Mai-HiME and I watched Bleach (up until the Baunto) and even a few episodes of Hellsing, Tenjho Tenge and Cowboy Bebop.

I prefer the Japanese ones with subtitles but I just don't have time for it anymore. Unless you understand Japanese, you can't look away from the screen for a second without missing dialogue and I'm one of those people who do other things while watching TV.

I watched the English versions of Pokemon, Yu-Gi-Oh and Dragon Ball Z on SABC2 and etv when I was younger, though.

message 243: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I love pokemon! I even have cards :)

message 244: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (kelstretch) I really enjoy Manga, but I do find that it takes alot longer than a normal book, or even a chapter of a book!

@Lu Pokemon is a great classic

@Sharle, Hellsing is one of my favourites!I totally get what you're saying about doing several things while watching TV! My fiance gets so annoyed with me when I'm otherwise occupied but meant to be watching the screen!

message 245: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I read Basilisk, and perhaps one or two others. Not really my thing. I've watched a few anime series and movies - Ghost in the Shell, Serial Experiments Lain, Paranoia Agent, Vampire Hunter D. They're not bad, but I don't often seek them out.

Do you pay a lot of attention to the artwork in manga Kelly? I find them to be very very quick reads, but then again my main focus is the text.

I've seen lots of Anime in my younger days. Can't remember all of them, but I do remember Golden Boy, Serial Experiments Lain and Full Metal Alchemist

Kelly (kelstretch) Yes Lauren, I find the artwork very distracting!

I loved Full Metal Alchemist
