Jyoti Arora (jyotiarora) | 4 comments Hi, everyone,

I'm Jyoti Arora from India. I have adored books since early childhood. I actually started reading before I started going to school :)
I've been working as a freelance writer since 2007. As my writing projects, I've abridged about 30 English Classics. Recently, I've also earned myself the title of being called an author of a general fiction book!

message 309: by Susie (new)

Susie Reed | 1 comments Hello all, Susie Reed - I'm working on my 2nd novel - I haven't finished the first yet, but I had to start a new one for a contest. Still waiting to hear the results of that.
I'd like to be published, but I guess that goes without saying. If I win the contest, the grand prize is that the book will be published, if I don't win, I'll either shop it around or go the self-pub route, which actually seems to be more lucrative right now.
I used to think that I liked "great literature" but the truth is I like a good story that is readable, believable within the boundaries that the author creates and grabs me by the brain stem from page one. I like a story with a character I can be passionate about (love or hate) and I don't like gratuitous sex or language. If it doesn't add to the story, I don't see the point.
I love to read new stuff and really would like to be an editor or book reviewer (if I absolutely have to have a day job) of course the real dream is to not need a 9 to 5 and feed myself by writing.

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 142 comments Hi Robert! Nice to meet you! What genre do you write in? I'm lazy :)

message 315: by R.F. Coles (new)

R.F. Coles | 6 comments Hi Mahairi, first novel is Romantic Comedy with a twist, and up-and-coming one is Dark Fantasy.

So I am varied you could say. Would actually love to write a novel in every genre there is. Would take me some time though!

message 316: by Mhairi (new)

Mhairi Simpson (mhairisimpson) | 142 comments Hahahaha I'm pretty varied myself, so I understand :D

Variety is the spice of life after all. Got to keep yourself engaged. I'm not sure I'd be cut out to be a genre author myself.

Confused. Don't you already write genre fiction? Romantic Comedy and Dark Fantasy are genres... :S

message 319: by R.F. Coles (new)

R.F. Coles | 6 comments They are only labels, the closest to what I do write which doesn't really fit into any one particular 'genre' category.

Yes, you should try! At least keep writing. If Kindle is available in your part of the world, you can upload to them. I don't know if you can upload from Salvador, though :(

message 323: by D.D. Chant (new)

D.D. Chant (DDChant) | 33 comments Hi everyone!!!

I'm DeeDee, I'm 24 and I live in Devon, England.

I have a kindle and I LOVE it!!! I like almost anything from Regency Romance to Sci-Fi, so long as it has romance, adventure and a little mystery! You may also have noticed a weakness for exclamation marks!!!!

I write as well, my first book is 'Broken City' a romantic adventure mystery set in the near future after a banking crisis.
My second book is almost ready to upload and is set in saxon England, it is the start of a series.
I'm 70.000 words through my third, a dystopian Sci-Fi that is also the start of a series.

Looking forward to making lots of new friends!!!

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) Hi, I'm Geoff and this is my second Goodreads group. I'm a member of the madcap UK Amazon Kindle Users Group.

I am primarily a reader, but I am trying to write a couple of things, a non-fiction piece about a life threatening condition I survived, that I'm currently trying to edit, and a novel called Bump that may, or may not ever see the light of day.

The inspiration for my writing is my daughter Sophie, who is the author of A Hole in the World. If I write only 25% as well as her I will consider myself a good writer. Her skill is indicated by her reviews on Amazon and here.

Todd Russell (toddrussell) | 2 comments Hello folks :)

I learned something new today that grizzled Goodreads vets probably knew long ago. If you click on "edit membership" under the group name you can see how many comments you've made in the group. I found that my number was an underwhelming zero here—despite being a member since September—so I rushed right into this thread to say hello.

Zero is not the hero in my book (Sabbath reference) :)

I love reading and writing atmospheric, scary, thrilling stories. In fiction, I enjoy a wide variety of genres but follow horror and thrillers the most. On the nonfiction side I enjoy history, biographies and true crime.

I'm in the midst of my first official attempt of NaNoWriMo this year. I tried about seven years ago under a pen name and got to 35,000 words before crashing and burning.

So much for a short introduction :)

Horrifically Yours,
Todd Russell

Bridget Bowers (bridgetbowers) | 12 comments Hello everyone!

I'm Bridget Bowers an author and a reader. My family encouraged a love of reading at a very young age and so I enjoy reading across a wide variety of genres. My first real love of any genre was fantasy so that's what my first book The Path of Light: The Chronicles of Vlandamyuir Book One is all about.

So now I'm splitting my time between marketing my book, writing the second book and reading. Not easy when I can get lost in my own world writing or in another one reading, but it does keep life interesting.

message 343: by Jamie (new)

Jamie (jamiesigal) Hey all - My name is Jamie and like the rest of you, I am a reader and a writer. I'm slowing trying to figure out how to get my first novel published (Gusty Winds May Exist - a story of love, friendship, depression, and drug-abuse), and working on a new book that I'm writing for my nephew and will probably never even try to publish. My biggest challenge with writing is finding some sort of comfortable common-ground between "Art" and "Product". I'm one of the rare few who truly believe art and creative endeavours should be free for all to enjoy, but at the same time, I want to make my living at it, so it's a bit of a philosophical struggle in my brain - Am I creating because I need to create, or am I doing it to make money? In my opinion, monetization kills the innocence of art.

Sharon Hello!
I'm Sharon Maas, a novelist; unfortunately my three published books , are out of print but there are a couple more coming up. Hopefully soon! I'm a voracious reader but can be quite demanding of a book. When I've read one that I'm passionate about - passionately dislike or passionately love -- I can be quite, well, passionate about it!
