Mia Darien (mia_darien) Oh my goodness, there's a lot to catch up on in this group!

Well, hello all. My name is Mia Darien and I'm a stay-at-home wife and mother, lunatic writer, spastic reader and self-published author. (There's a theme to this, I know it.) I write all kinds of genre fiction and I read all kinds of it, too.

Some day, I want to write a book on "Self-promotion and Social Media for the Socially Anxious & Phobic"... once I figure it out myself! So, I'm slowly going to try to learn my way around here and join in as my courage allows. :)

Christine Rice (christine_rice) | 82 comments Hello, all! This is my first day on Goodreads! I'm pretty excited to be in a place where everyone reads and I can learn about new books. I read nonfiction and I'm currently reading books on writing and publishing. They are so interesting to read!

I'm also a writer - very much so, actually - and an author. I love to write! I've self-published three books in print and ebook formats. I'm also writing two books at the moment.

Follow me on my author blog if you're interested in learning more. Writing and reading is my life! Glad to be here!

Hey, Cecilia. Thought I'd say "Hi!" I'm excited for your March launch. Congratulations. I also wanted to ask you how far you are on your new dark urban fantasy. I'm almost done with something along those lines, although focused primarily on the urban-Hispanic subculture.

I'll be the first to buy when it's out, and I'll be looking out for Truly, Madly, Deeply, You in March.

I was also interested in hearing more about the way your handling you urban fantasy and if you were drawing from personal experience. I know I am. Plus, it’s exciting to know there’s a good market for this kind of genre. And exciting to be able to congratulate you. Glad to meet you.

Hi Daniel, Thank you. It's great to meet you too. :)

I'm really glad to know you enjoyed reading Soul Collector excerpt. I have to say I'm having too much fun writing it as well. I had set it aside to work on Truly Madly, but now that is over and done with, I'm back on SC with gusto. I hope to complete it before April then send it to my editor.

Yes. Some of the scenes are drawn from personal experience. I work as an assistant nurse,so the experience came in handy in this story.
You are right. There's a good market for this genre. Yours sounds interesting. mmh when I think about it, I've never read stories focused on Urban-Hispanic subculture. That's cool! Would love to read this when it's out. :)
Please do let me know how you are fairing on with your story.

W.R.A. Lewis (wraylewis) | 3 comments Hi!

I write as W. R. A. Lewis, but my friends call me Ray. I use my initials because there's another, very large, Ray Lewis also in the Baltimore/DC area who might not want me in his Google searches.

I write 7,000 - 10,000 word stories. Two are illustrated and for kids of all ages. One is text only and is a spoof of pulp detective stories.

All three are in the Kindle store where I have an author's page. I requested one here, but haven't received the email yet.

no images
no metaphors
no rhythm in the lines quoted
but why does leaving goodreads have anything to do with that?

message 430: by Charles (new)

Charles Hi all -- I've just joined this group but haven't explored it yet. I've been writing for a long time. I published a crime novel and some 25 stories before I decided to segue into artists books about 1990. I have some 16 books online http://ocotilloarts.com and a blog http://ocotilloarts.com/blog where I have been recently experimenting with serializing novels and showing visual poems as well as discursive pieces on writing and making books. You're welcome to download anything on the website. Most are pdf with the visuals, some text-only, a few e-books. Currently I'm about to submit a ms on the detective genre called The Figure Of the Detective. You're welcome to that, too, though it's deliberately not the current version. Let me know what you think.

Robert (booklover_83) Hi everyone!

I am Rob and both a reader and a writer. I have about 5 different projects going right now but I am currently working on just two manuscripts. One is a full novel (fantasy) and the other is a novella (ghosts related). I am already making notes for NanoWrimo and that will be a contemporary piece about a college student who gets diagnosed with something soon after starting school and it unleashes a lot of secrets and emotions. I am also a goodreads author:)

message 442: by Wilfredo (new)

Wilfredo Hello everyone.

My name is Wilfredo Rodriguez and I'm an alcoholic. Wait... no, wrong group.

I'm currently rewriting my first novel and it's been an very humbling experience. Until I finish that, I won't even pretend to be a 'writer'. I wanted to join a good dynamic group that could give me some advice and perhaps some light cheering.

I'm also trying to be a better reader, if that makes sense. I'm a bit ashamed to admit it, but I'm a horribly slow reader. I would love to know the freaking secret to speed reading. Unless it just means I'm stupid. If it's that, just leave a smiley face. My puny inferior brain will understand. Seriously, I need to speed up my reading or I'm gonna end up finishing the Stand on my deathbed. Any ideas? Suggestions?
