I love this site. You answer a series of questions to find out where you should live in the U.S. It's kinda fun, especially if you're uncool.

http://www.findyourspot.com/

The last time I took it, these were my top ten spots:

Little Rock, Arkansas
Portland, Oregon
Baltimore, Maryland
Albuquerque, New Mexico
Fayetteville, Arkansas
Charleston, West Virginia
Providence, Rhode Island
Frederick, Maryland
Eugene, Oregon
Corvallis, Oregon

Branson? Really? The rest make sense. I live pretty close to what I like, apparently.

Lori This is same link as the one in Mini-Am, right?

I got a ton of Oregon, but #3 was Little Rock. Did I miss something? Is Little Rock the New Spot?

message 6: by [deleted user] (new)

Uh, you live in Portland, you lucky girl!!!

Charissa, I have a friend that lives in Ketchikan, AK right now. Lots of drugs in Ketchikan, and men. Lots o' men.

I wanna live in Oregon.

message 7: by [deleted user] (new)

Yes, Lori, I posted it in the other group, too.

I got Little Rock, too. I don't get it...

message 9: by [deleted user] (new)

Oregon wants you to live in it, Mich!

message 10: by [deleted user] (new)

Amelia, can I come live in your basement? I won't make much noise...

message 11: by Lori (new)

Lori Koe, are you in Miss?

I'm presently in the right place (Pac NW) but the wrong state.

message 12: by Lori (new)

Lori Argh, that's right, you've only said a million times you were in AZ! We even talked about "dry" heat.

Getting older is scary.

Yes, I included college towns in the quiz.

message 13: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (songgirl7) Phoenix, AZ was my #1. CA didn't appear anywhere on my list! Mostly AZ, TX, and VA. Even though I specifically said I didn't want to live in the desert.

message 14: by Lori (new)

Lori Go figure, another person who doesn't listen to us because they have their own agenda.

message 15: by [deleted user] (last edited Jul 01, 2008 08:51PM) (new)

Mich, I don't actually have a basement, and there are LOTS of spiders under the house, so that wouldn't be so great. I'd find you a great place in N.W. 23rd though, you'd LOVE that area! Ask Charissa, we had lunch and went to some shops there. They have loads of old turn of the century houses that have been converted into the cutest apartments ever! And, it's walking distance to Powell's, the real "Happiest Place on Earth!"

message 16: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) NW 23rd was pretty goddamn hip. Fuck, if I was 20 something and fancy free, I move there in a heart beat!

Jackie "the Librarian" Kailua-Kona, on the Big Island of Hawaii was my number one, followed by Palm Springs. I like the beach.

Portland is totally cool!

message 18: by Dave (new)

Dave Russell Palm Springs is all beach, no ocean.

Jackie "the Librarian" Yeah, so no good. I want to swim, not sunbathe.

message 20: by [deleted user] (new)

Amelia and Charissa, I was in Portland in May and I walked up and down NW 23rd with all the cute shops. I honestly fell completely in love with Portland, and I would move in a heartbeat, too. Except I have this thing called a job and this other thing called a husband and I'd have to convince him to move, too. I figure I'll just take him to Portland, walk him around, and let him fall in love with the city. I loved all the little walk-up apartments. I'm so jealous you live there Amelia. Come on, tell me something bad about Portland to make me feel better...

message 21: by [deleted user] (new)

Well, most people hate that it rains 9 months out of the year...I personally love that about Portland though, so I'm not sure that counts as a "bad" thing.

message 22: by [deleted user] (new)

Oh, and the husband would probably like moving to Portland better than having you come live under my house...

message 23: by [deleted user] (new)

I didn't realize it rained there that much. But does it snow is the real question? My biggest complaint about MN is that it gets to be -10 with -30 windchills in the winter. I can handle 30 degree weather, but I hate it when it gets colder than that. I've always enjoyed the rain, too. Every year in MN we have a drought and then it floods. Great.

Oh, you don't know my husband, Amelia. :) I'm kidding. Maybe he wants to live under your house with me, spiders and all.

message 24: by Clackamas (new)

Clackamas My top 15 is right on. I live in Oregon and have lived in Alaska and Washington. Places I've lived for more than 3 months from my list are in italics:

Bremerton, Washington
Ketchikan, Alaska
Seward, Alaska
Mount Vernon, Washington
Hood River, Oregon
Whidbey Island/Oak Harbor/Coupeville, Washington
Palmer, Alaska
Homer-Kenai Peninsula, Alaska
Wenatchee, Washington
St. Helens, Oregon
Port Townsend, Washington
Sequim, Washington
Maryville, Tennessee
Hendersonville, North Carolina
Anacortes, Washington

message 25: by [deleted user] (new)

You are incredibly lucky to have lived in so many of the places that are your "top" spots. When did you live in Ketchikan?

message 26: by Clackamas (new)

Clackamas 2000-2003
Nome
Palmer
Kodiak
Homer
Seward
Wasilla
North Pole
Fairbanks
Haines/Skagway
Ketchikan

Most of the Oregon/Washington ones were because I was in foster care as a kid.

I'm hoping that I'm finally settled in Carus Oregon because I'm really tired of moving and I don't want my son to live the gypsy lifestyle that I have.

message 27: by [deleted user] (new)

Mich, no snow to speak of. We get a dusting once or twice a year that you are lucky if it lasts more than a day. You'd laugh at all of us lame ass Oregonians who can't drive in it! :)

Hmmmm, none of places I lived in the past are on my list...that bites!

Clack, I've always wanted to go to Alaska! I'm totally excited about possibly going with Charissa next summer!!

message 28: by Charissa (new)

Charissa (dakinigrl) w00t!!!!

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Today was one of those days that made me happy to live in MN. 85 and sunny, not too humid. Blue skies. My husband and I walked around the lake and ate ice cream at a little ice cream parlor. It's the life!! Up until November that is...

message 30: by Kelly (last edited Jul 08, 2008 08:09AM) (new)

Kelly Just found this, so I'm coming a bit late to the party, but here are mine:

Providence, Rhode Island
New Haven, Connecticut
Worcester, Massachusetts
Boston, Massachusetts
Baltimore, Maryland
Hartford, Connecticut
Long Island, NY
NYC
Bergain-Passaic, New Jersey
Carlisle, Pennsylvania
Danbury, Connecticut
Norfolk, Virginia
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
Cape Cod, Massachusetts
Charlotte, North Carolina
Cambridge, Massachusetts
Stamford, Connecticut
Virginia Beach, Virginia
and finally... Washington, DC

... you know what's funny? All those locations with the exception of NC and some of the farther Pennsylvania locations are all within two hours of where I live now or where I grew up. Some of them the next towns right over.

I would never live in Jersey (unless you head a gun to my head, and by a gun, I mean awful rent prices in NYC proper, and even then, I'm living right over the river where I can see my escape route! Just joshin' with ya, NJ residents... :)), in North Carolina, hickville PA, boring/expensive Rhode Island, or two towns over from where I grew up in Connecticut, (at least not for many many years). NYC is out for now, though a good possibility for the future. So that leaves Massachusetts, big PA towns, and the vaguely DC area VA/Maryland towns. Its good to know that even when faced with the attractive alternatives, I'd choose to live where I live now.

All the same, it is kind of funny that Washington, DC came in last place out of the list. :)
