Ann aka Iftcan (iftcan) Kymberly--glad to help out. I learned that little trick as the result of the same thing happening to me. One of my nurses gave me an extra pillow, put my book on it, then told me, using a very nice pidgin mix of English, Greek, Italian and French, that it would make reading it like that would be much less painful. (My little "disagreement" happened in Europe.)

message 490: by Tania (last edited Sep 25, 2010 08:34AM) (new)

Tania | 644 comments Status Update: 10/10... I've nearly finished stormwalker and I expect to it in the next few hours. So I'm marking it as done whilst I remember.

This was my first challenge and it was not only greate fun but a way to force myself to read books that were lingering on my 'gonna-read-someday' list.

Out of the new authors I really enjoyed Virginia Kantra and Allyson James. Both had different takes on PNR that I hadn't read before and both were really well written. I didn't enjoy either of the Alice Hoffman books. I just didn't find myself immersed in her writing. I might give The Ice Queen another go at some stage because it's always possible I just wasn't in the mood and had just come from reading One for the Money, a funny light hearted book written in an entirely different style. Plus it has such a beautiful cover - the reason I picked it up in the first place. Practical Magic didn't grab me at all. Tempted was amazing and cements Megan Hart into Must Read status and Dark Peril had an interesting little twist at the end keeping me wanting more.

1. September: Sea Witch - 8/9
2. Birthday: Stormwalker - 26/9
3. Geography: Practical Magic - 19/9
4.Pirate Day: Sea Lord (I know it's a stretch but he does kidnap her on a boat) - 9/9
5. Labor Day: Tempted - 5/9
6. Hispanic: Dark Peril - 15/9
7. Library: The Discovery of the Hobbit: The Scientific Breakthrough That Changed the Face of Human History (not romance but it is a library book) - 13/9
8. Romance Genre: Pride and Prejudice - 22/9
9. Of Lists and Shelves: The Ice Queen - 26/9
10. Reader's Choice: One for the Money - 22/9

Sea Witch (Children of the Sea, #1) by Virginia Kantra Stormwalker (Stormwalker, #1) by Allyson James Practical Magic by Alice Hoffman Sea Lord (Children of the Sea, #3) by Virginia Kantra Tempted by Megan Hart Dark Peril (Carpathians, #21) by Christine Feehan The Discovery of the Hobbit The Scientific Breakthrough That Changed the Face of Human History by M. J. Morwood Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman One for the Money (Stephanie Plum, #1) by Janet Evanovich

Right - so where do I sign up for next month :)

√10. Reader's Choice: Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead ***** 9/22

Blow Me Down by Katie MacAlister

READ

Dead in the Family (Sookie Stackhouse, #10) by Charlaine Harris For almost the entire book I kept thinking this was my favorite Sookie book of the series. At least, I felt that way until the end. The book just ended so abruptly and their just was not enough of the Eric we know and love in it. Really, it seemed like there wasn't a lot of vampires in general. Don't get me wrong the vampires were there, but the book didn't center on them like they usually do.

Again The Magic by Lisa Kleypas I really enjoyed this book. However, I struggle with people making their lives more difficult by hiding a truth. I know it happens a lot in romance novels. Let's face it, it wouldn't be much of a story if boy meets girl, girl jumps in bed with boy...the end. But, when the lead hides her feelings or an illness or whatever to protect the other person I find myself yelling at the book...TELL HIM OR HER. Geesh! People really find ways to mess up their lives. I just don't like when the story depends on playing games to build the suspese or storyline.

Shiver (The Wolves of Mercy Falls, #1) by Maggie Stiefvater The story of Jack and Grace is a very sweet one. However, that's about the best thing I can say about this book. It was so long and drawn out. I seriously wanted to put the book down and walk away a million times. It was almost torturous.

Three To Get Deadly (Stephanie Plum, #3) by Janet Evanovich I think this is my favorite of the Stephanie Plum series. The other ones I have been iffy on. This one actually made me chuckle and I didn't spend the whole book trying to rush to the end.

I am really starting to warm up to Stephanie. The first two books I found her annoying, but liked most of the other characters, so decided to give the series a shot. Glad I did. I think she is finally coming into her own. The tension between Morelli and Stephanie is starting to wear a little thin, though. Geesh, how long many books will it take for them to quit playing games? Will definitely try #4.

Undead and Unpopular (Undead, #5) by MaryJanice Davidson I just love these books. They are the easiest quickie reads and they make me laugh out loud. I love how Sinclair kept referring to the baby jon as "the infant". For a second, my mind wondered to "uh oh, that's not good. Betsy was kind of feeling down about not being able to have kids and here Sinclair isn't a fan of kids", but then I remembered it was a Queen Betsy book and I'm pretty sure this won't be any deep issue later. Let's face it, in Betsy's world she can deal with anything. Anything but wearing last years strappy sandals, that is.

Frostbite (Vampire Academy, #2) by Richelle Mead
I really love this series. I think it's a great series for young adults to sink their teeth into (pun intended).

I think Rose is not only a good strong heroine, but she is an honest one. She isn't perfect, she's flawed and not really afraid to admit it.

Dimitri is sexy as heck and always trying to do the right thing. I love that he, too is an honest character. He tries to do the right thing, yet sometimes gives in and does what feels good instead.

I can't wait to read the next book.

Gone With the Wind by Margaret Mitchell This is a re-read for me. I love this book! It's a classic, yet never seems to go out of style.
