Absolutely shocking! So so terrible for the poor families, and of course, the miners who died. Our thoughts are with all the friends and families.
It is horrific news, I just hope they didn't suffer, we will never know.

Amazon is selling Kindle 2 for $89US..But you've gotta be around 9AM PST USA time of course..lol Uggh, will be to sleepy to bother.
I am surprised they aren't giving them away. The money they make must be from the sale of the books.

Cooonggrraats :D

CONGRATULATIONS BECCA!!!!! That's wonderful news. Hope you and bub are home soon.

Wow that is lovely!!! Congratulations Becca.

This deal is timing down..so get on it quick...I'm a little unsure if people outside of Sydney can take part...Cause I don't live in Sydney.
Anyways..Enjjoooyyys! :D
I'm probably in the wrong thread, I have hunted for the one I know I've read on ereaders!! hehe
Big W has a LASER MULTIMEDIA EBOOK READER $98..says DRM licenced ebook files.
Does anyone know if this is ok? I have never read ebooks, don't know a thing about ereaders (other than what I've read in the threads) but wondered if that would be ok for starting out. It says you can listen to music, watch videos as well as read books and mags.

FYI If you can't see a topic you know exists here in the group discussions, it just means no-one has posted there for a little while. Only five discussions appear at a time in each of the folders. Otherwise all the topics can be a bit intimidating for new members. Just click on "view all" beside each folder title and you will see everything.:)
Thanks Mandy too! I have just put my question in the correct place...don't know what we'd do without you guys to help out.:)
Ummmmmm tasty. If I serve them up to my kids sweet & sour pork style they will never know the difference. :)
no Carmel, the legs double as tooth picks, crunchy edible tooth picks. (-:

Love it Carmel: "How to save the nation with culinary courage"
I actually once ate a shishkebab of locust type insects when I was in Africa. It was considered a delicacy but I found it just a bit too crunchy! LOL

To all of you who have been so incredibly supportive of me during my illness I thought I'd give you a brief update - doc's have finally ruled out all the yucky blood cancers and bone cancers they suspected and think now it's.... a virus, which will go away in time. I still get very tired and feel quite weak but I can feel myself growing stronger by the day so thanks heaps to all of you who listened to my whining and offered your prayers and support.
Cheers,
Trace

I suppose they're not as squishy as witchetty grubs!!"
I've actually eaten the ole witchetty grub - my step-father was aboriginal and insisted on it, along with honey ants and kangaroo tail - I decided I didn't like any of them then he tells me he's never eaten them. I was so naive at 12 but at least I gave him a good laugh.

@Carmel Lol! Nice one. Thing is I play a game on my xbox 360 and you have to fight the locusts..lol They look terribly different but I couldn't help my mind think it was the games types of Locusts..*slaps head* lol
@Mandy- Thinkgeek.com offer some interesting food for people to munch on...And well, seems like you've already tasted some locusts..So why not try out the-
Oven baked tarantula- http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/wac...
and
Giant Toasted Leafcutter Ants- http://www.thinkgeek.com/caffeine/wac...
My Grandmother could make the most wonderfull Kanga- tail soup, wish I had that recipe.
BTW...for dinner last night,
2 pieces of boneless blade my darling picked up at a good price
soak in a bowl of 3/4 to 1/4 sweet red & water (respectivley) for about 30 minutes, while they were soaking I grabed 2 good sized spuds & peeled & chopped into small 'chunky' cubes (roughly 10 cm)
placed about a tablespoon of butter or marg into the fry pan, (on about med heat) once melted & starting to 'bubble' place steaks into pan (don't throw out the wine & water) & slow cook until cooked through. (unless you like your meat still alive LOL!) Now what I do whith the spuds is to add some oil to the pan, enough to almost cover the spuds, turn the heat up to high & when hot place spuds into pan, being sure to use an anti-spatter strainer type cover, let them sizzel & bubble away for a few minutes, while this is happening grab a large cup or measuring jug & put about 1/2 a cup of hot water from the tap (not boiling water) add 2 good teaspoons of plain flour, 1 teaspoon of (I like) gravox rich onion gravy mix add salt herbs etc to your own taste, then add most of the left over wine mix (again this depends on how thick you like your gravy) give it a good mix & sit aside, go back to the spuds & shuffle around with a spatula or egg flipper etc, leave another couple of minutes, the coat of the spuds should be almost crunchy but inside soft, I place the strainer/cover over the sink & then place the spuds on the strainer so they drain out some, turn the stove back down to med/low, tip oil from pan into cup/mug whatever, place pan back onto stove add a small amount of water so it bubbles the 'brown' off the bottom while you are scrapping with the spatula/egg flpper, now add your gravy mixture, stay with it continually stiring until it is the gravy you like, turn stove to low and place the steakes into the gravy mix, should be enough mixture to just cover the steaks, turn a couple of times & turn stove off, I, place some peas & corn in the micro for 2.5 minutes then put even amounts onto our plates, then even amounts of spuds, then the steak & smother the lot with some gravy.
This took me about an hour including putting used items into the DW.
I am actually eating the leftovers here at work while typing this, hope this is explained enough & excuse the spelling. enjoy. (-:

Oh, how gross is all I can say, Carmel!!!

Carmel- Lovely photo of the kangaroo :) Yea, those dead bugs might just come back to being alive in your tummy..urrggkkkk...What a horrible/scary thought..lol
Pear cider any good? I don't like apple cider but pear cider sounds like it might be delicious.

Yessss~! Pear is soooo goood! There is one from the UK that is also scrummy (but the name slips me at the moment). This pear one is kinda creamy and super smooth.
Apple Ciders don't sit well with me but the Swedish one does. I've found the Aussie Ciders to be a bit harsh on the tummy and brain..lol So, I rarely touch them.
I've got cider glasses to drink from as well..lol One thing beer taught me was to get used to drinking out of different glasses.

What!!!...beer comes in a glass or tin of it's own, one does not pour into another recepticle, for starters that makes the beer go flat faster. LOL!

Hahaha...If you drink guinness for example..do you drink straight from the can/bottle? Cetain beers you will use to use different drinking glasses :P I've a lovely collection....But it also depends on how much you wanna be a beer nerd as well..lol

I will have to try this out..Might get rid of the harshness I experience..thanks for the tip :D
Hehehehe!!..yes, I do drink Guinness straight from the can, very carefully though, but being a far north Qlder, XXXX gold is my poison.

It was very sweet of them to wish me a happy birthday. What should I have done? I replied to say that they had sent it to the wrong person. What would you do?

I would definitely txt them back too. They'd be upset if their msgs didn't get through and maybe the son is a long way from home and missing them.
It was kind of sweet really. I hope they do have the right number it would be a little sad if mine was the only number they had. :(

Did you hear about the Aussie guy who started getting emails for an American family? He tried telling them, but the messages kept coming. He learnt all about them and became friends. This year he went over for thanksgiving.

Aussie guy emails thanksgiving America
and you'll find something about it.

Funny video!

Actually Carmel I had a pretty odd childhood in some ways - with Dad being Aboriginal and my Mum was born into Scottish aristocracy so I went for being a rebel without a clue lol. Not much has changed ;)

They have no idea of the beauty and richness of the life of a reader.
Very sad to report...it's bad news from that mining crisis in New Zealand....a second explosion, even bigger than the first means no hope of them still being alive. Our thoughts go out to all the families involved. Fortunately no rescuers had entered the mine when this occurred, so further loss of life was sensibly avoided.
