Jan (auntyjan) Welcome to Elisa, our 999th member. Who will be our 1000th? And will it happen before I leave for my holiday today? (hopefully)

Hi Jan, saw on the news this morning that Perth has bad bushfires close by...are you anywhere near? I do hope everything will be ok over there...do so hate the destruction of bushfires!
Hopefully we'll get our 1,000th member very soon! Have a wonderful holiday (going somewhere exciting?) :)

Oh my..I was outside the on Christmas eve night and I spotted a little brown froggie! I was very suprized by it as I didn't think we'd get frogs where I live. We've lots of blue tongues and just 5mins from the beach but a frog never thought.

Isn't it a good sign that your yard is doing well?

We were pretty thrilled by the visit Laura, we have seen the occasional smaller frog, but nothing the size of this one.

The other exciting thing within the last few weeks is the water dragon that lives by our pool has had babies. I love living near the bush.

Oh yes, that was sooo scary! Incredible that it was made in 1963, imagine what they could do nowadays with all the technology....

message 813: by Neko (new)

Neko Woohooo! 1k in members congrats :D :D

@Carmel- I only saw 'The Birds' last year for the first time..While I thought it was partly corny..I did start to look at birds differently..lol Or I felt different about them!

One nice thing about Tassie is we are always close to the water pretty much wherever you live :)

@Gail- How cool..A water dragon!

@Brenda- Thanks about the top of Booktopia will have to check it out :)

My tummy is stuffed..Just arrived home from a family friends house for Boxing Day tradtion we've got with them. Left over goodies plus lots of drinks and good convo :D

message 815: by Neko (new)

Neko ZOMG...That Booktopia sale...I just went and spent around $140AU..LOL..That is my christmas pressy to me. But wow, to think...I would have spent WAY more if I bought all at normal price....So Brenda, really, I thank you for giving us the heads up about the sale!!! :D

I didn't pick up anything on my TBR list buuuuut I now have a stack more to read..Shipping is SO cheap...I am blown away..ahahaha!

@Brenda- Hahaha..Yes, Christmas is one of those times for eating/drinking too much..lol I behaved at Christmas but today I didn't!

@Carmel- When my family moved into our current house we had a b/w tv..It was so COOL..I'd never seen one before..However, we sent it to the tip.
Wow, Lenah Valley..Kinda funny the family friends I just met with used to live out that way. It is a pretty relaxing place to live at. I'm guessing you know Salamanca Markets then? Since Christmas fell on Sat they moved to Sunday..don't think I've ever heard of that happening for YEARS. Tassie is worth a visit sometimes...Can't say much about Hobarts inner city for shopping still pretty boring (hence all my shopping online) but overal it is lovely place!

Mandapanda I worked an evening shift in Birth Suite last night (25th). Usually people play a lot of mood/chill music when they're in labour but the couple I was looking after loved rock and roll and had Triple M (Brisbane radio station) playing the whole time mum was in labour. So finally in true blue Aussie style a little boy was born to the loud sounds of ACDC, 'You Shook Me All Night Long'! It was so funny...:D

I think our two stories really highlight the circle of life beautifully don't they. Someone rejoicing as new life enters the world and others grieving as a loved one passes away.

Great photos Laura. The sky displays some remarkable things at times.

message 823: by Neko (new)

Neko I'd love to see the sky do some funky stuff again! I remember going to the Mountain the night it was going wacko...The top of the mt looked like we were going to hell..It had all these clouds that were black and dangerous looking then in the middle it was splitting open and it was bright red..Was creepy!

message 827: by ★ Jess (new)

★ Jess | 3071 comments On the topic of sunsets, I found this:
description

Its certainly not as impressive as Laura's, but I like it :)
It was taken on NYE 07. We spent that night at Glenelg beach. It was a perfect night. I will always remember swimming in the warm water with that sunset overhead.

Oh, and that my brother in the picture.

message 828: by [deleted user] (new)

LOL, they must have been fishing for something pretty special to have used the baby as bait!

Lovely shots Carmel.

Geoff Woodland | 313 comments How do I attach a photo ?

message 838: by [deleted user] (new)

Geoff I prefer to add the photo's on to an online website such as Photobucket. That way it doesn't clog up my Goodreads profile. I imagine you would eventually run out of space on GR.

message 839: by Neko (new)

Neko It really does suck with all this flooding happening :(

I love the baby stroller as a fishermans basket area..Thankfully no baby was in the stroller..lol

Mucking around with the pixels for resizing isn't to bad but you've just gotta try out which numbers(pixel) you think is going to be okay. So sometimes it's just not worth bothering..lol

Neko Carmel wrote: "Did I do alright with my explanation Laura for the pics, didn't want a repeat of the other night with Tony! LOL"

Yeah, they are perfect place plus there you can use their area to shrink the photos/images down then you don't have to worry about pixel stuff :D

What has everyone got planned for tonight?

message 844: by Mandapanda (new)

Mandapanda We usually have NY at my parents unit at the Gold Coast. It's right near the NSW border and after we do the midnight thing in Coolangatta we run over to the NSW pubs and celebrate all over again. So drinks tonight and a swim in the ocean tomorrow to get rid of the hangovers!:)

message 845: by Neko (new)

Neko Yaayy~! See everyone in 2011! No hang over for me as I'll take it easy!

message 846: by Geoff (new)

Geoff Woodland | 313 comments Worked it out at last :-o)

Sunrise taken at Vincentia NSW, in November

Taken from the bridge of my ship a few minutes before sunset in 1967, just before the typhoon hit us.
It took us ten days to do a four day trip, from Hong Kong to Moji in Southern Japan. We were carried miles off course - didn't have any idea of our exact position as at that time we needed to see the stars or the sun to find our position - we didn't have satellites then :-o)
