Thanks for the kind b'day wishes, Carmel in the Naughty Corner. They say you're only as old as you feel - which makes me about 90! Oh what a whinger I am! My mum made it to almost 90. HER mum and dad shuffled off this mortal coil at 85 and 90 respectively.

My oldest friend's mum passed away at 99. No telegram from the Queen for 100. Mind you, for a long time she wouldn't go into a nursing home because it was full of "old people"...

Tracey, maybe a bone marrow transplant gets rid of arthritis!

Neko Monya, belated happy birthday for last month :) i think ppl tend to focus on age to much as in that defines who you are...i think try and act however you feel, as long as you're happy :D!

My cat has arthritis...He sometimes gets needles for it. When we first got the meds/needles for it this woman said, 'Oh, that stuff is for arthritis, yes?'
Us: Yep..
Me: I use it on myself..It works wonders!
Us: Uh...*smiles nicely* Wow..haha..

Mandapanda Bought a big bunch of bananas two days ago. YUMM! But the price is already going up since the crops were destroyed and I think soon the closest I'll get to a banana is a banana flavoured paddlepop! LOL

message 1329: by [deleted user] (last edited Feb 09, 2011 02:10AM) (new)

a local here is trying to get a promotion off the ground called 'eat a banana a day' even if you buy 2 or 3 a week it still helps the growers as a lot of the nana's on the ground can still be harvested & ripened, we will definately be trying to do the promo
(-:

Tracey Alley (traceya) | 485 comments Hi all and thanks for the warm welcome back. I've just got to share this one though - a friend just told me of someone they knew who applied for & received $3000 from the government as part of a grant due to the flooding and they had NOT BEEN AFFECTED AT ALL!!! I can't believe A) that sort of thing can happen and B) that some people would be so mercenary. Talk about infuriating.

message 1332: by Mandapanda (new)

Mandapanda That's terrible Tracey! Hopefully someone will dob them in and the govt will take it back!

message 1333: by [deleted user] (new)

There are quite a number up here who are saying by law they are entitled to the money, this maybe so but I personally feel they are not 'morally' entitled, there have been a couple of people on radio saying, that when they went to centrelink, they asked for just a couple of hundred dollars to replace spoiled food & were told by centrelink staff, they have to take the amount allocated, so, these people have donated the balance to the disaster appeal, the other grubs are just 'pissing it against a wall'

I bought two bananas the other day, and it cost $2.35! But I really want to help the growers too, and hate the thought of them being so expensive. We always like to have banana on our cereal in the morning..:(

That is so incredibly terrible..I wish there was some way those sort of people could be stopped. I know they are a minority but they are the scum of the earth!! My brother and his family were entitled to have it, but said no, there are other people who need it more.

message 1337: by Neko (new)

Neko Supermarket prices have certainly gone up yet the littler local stores which have better fruit n veggies are still as cheap.

I just met my mothers friends (newish) baby girl..So cute...Hehehe :3

I second that - my sister and brother-in-law were also entitled to the grant and said no, they'd make up their losses in time.

message 1339: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) 72 houses were burnt down in the Perth hills and another forty partly destroyed. I live near the coast, so was not affected.
An off-duty policeman started it accidentally by using an angle grinder on a day of total fire ban. Poor man is overcome with grief and may even face a jail sentence. Most people don't even realise about not using machinery on total fire ban days, and since it's been over 36 most days this summer it's probably been a total fire ban nearly every day, but who would know?
Important point...the fire spread to the interior of houses very quickly via air-conditioning units on the roof. So if there is a fire and you are evacuated(at least everybody complied so nobody died), please turn off your air-conditioners...it may save your house.

We have total fire bans in Qld too but I certainly didn't know you couldn't use machinery. I also feel sorry for the poor policeman!:(

Dot (busyozmum) | 116 comments Showers here again today but only light so far. That's all we need right now thank you very much. (smile)

I lashed out and bought a few bananas yesterday. Still only $5something per kilo down here. Not too bad. Last time they got up to $15/kg, we simply couldn't afford them. Wahhh! Hope they don't go that high again.

I also negelected to mention that I have a new grandson. Born last Friday. 2 weeks overdue. Poor mama! Everyone is healthy and well. He's just as adorable as his sweet 2yo brother. We have another grandy due this coming June. Next Christmas all of a sudden got a lot bigger!

Lovely news Dot. Kids make Christmas so special.

message 1344: by Jan (new)

Jan (auntyjan) Congrats Dot!! How many grandies altogether?

Bananas $5 per kilo here, but beautiful nectarines $3.50...plums even less...so we're eating stone fruit...much cheaper than vegetables...capsicum $8!!!

message 1345: by Neko (new)

Neko @Dot-Congrats Dot :D!
@Carmel- Same here, but the friend came here with her baby (i think 3 months old) and..awe my heart just melted xD So cute.
@Jan- $8 for caps..ouch~!

Besides being blasted at by another driver today who was in the wrong as well..I was finally able to locate a game I've been wanting for ages :D!

message 1346: by Neko (new)

Neko Lol Nah. The guy didn't like to use his indicator so we pulled out at exactly the same time but as he did that I guess he spend up somewhat and blasted me..Even though I did indicate. He'd been going in and out of traffic (very busy as well) without using his indicator even ONCE. Ugh.

Oh, the poor policeman! That is terrible...shouldn't be jail time tho..:( I certainly didn't know about the machinery, or the air con danger!

Feel so sorry for the people who have lost homes, and have lots of damage to homes.. So much tragedy in Australia at the moment.
