@Brenda- Oh, parking :/ That would be a bit annoying. Would you say that area has a high percentage of Uni students all year round?

I've some good news..My friend had her first baby on Thursday but I only found out yesterday. So, now I feel I should go out and get something (even with the drawing finished).

Now to pick up catfood at Big W..It's on sale! :P

Yes Laura, big percentage all year round...even when the semesters are having a break, there are still people there!!!

I just dropped in to say hi to all, I had some big oral surgery 8 days ago and still off the planet on post op medicines & sip thru a straw. All I've managed to do is add books to my wishlist - barely any reading...Stitches out tomorrow hopefully I will start feeling human again soon, I've already missed one uni class - and need to catch up already..some of you may see me wandering around newcastle campus - say hi!

@Carmel - my son started at Uni of Western sydney yesterday - he only had one lecture but came home really positive - a bit shocked that half the course were not fresh out of the HSC - whole new world! Two hours travel may get him down over time is the worry!

Carmel - he's doing a Bachelor of Music (he plays electric guitar and is interested in sound production). His main comment was he really liked the lectureres because they were funny!

I do well remember the mature age students when I was an undergraduate. Now I would probably be the same if I was studying literature with 18 year olds - a bit cynical and maybe dismissive. Life experience certainly changes your views, especially on the first flush of romantic love which was often discussed!

I also studied law and the mature agers there were truly intimidating, but I probably took it less seriously than I should have!

We've been using two friend's places to shower (one in our apartment block) and the toilet in the garden. It's handy being in an apartment block with good neighbours who are all dying to see the job when it's finished. Our loungeroom looks like a construction zone and there's dust everywhere...but it should be finished this weekend. Yay!!!

We had a massive storm hit here this afternoon, almost 100km hr winds! Raced outside to get the washing off the line, almost got blown over, and managed to get back inside as the rain and wind hit the front of the house! The speed it snuck up on us was incredible. Went down to my monthly book club meeting about an hour later, to find them just locking up, as there was no power, because of the storm! :(

:O! OMG! I am glad you are safe though!!!

We had horrible weather here today..It was snowing/hailing/sleet and such through out the day..It was really horrible. No such winds though. I hate wind..Thing it worries more than a storm (oddly enough).

First paycheque for my job :D! Accepted finally for what I am doing so I am on a registery for it. So cool.

Otherwise spent the afternoon reading comics..My ZEN! Love it where they can take you.

I spent all arvo reading too, had to finish my book for the book club...then it wasn't on..:( but oh, it was well worth finishing..loved it..:)

:S It's really unsettling when the weather is always stronger than expected. Rain kinda settles me no matter it's strength (unless driving). Just reminds you that the mother nature is much bigger than you!

But I do hope no more bad weather for you guys though! Guess first day of Autumn came with a 'bang'! :/

So glad you are enjoying the work, Laura. It makes so much difference, that's for sure.

I'm sure you will love The Help..it is very profound! Kept me deep into the characters the whole time, and I found I was thinking about it/them while doing other things.:)

I just read your review..Really like how you mentioned the quote at the end..And that has gotten me more interested overal. Also if a book makes those kinda thoughts on someone (you) then it's even more encouraging to read. Must find the book :D!!

That's a thought. I just haven't been there in years to properly borrow. Hmm...Last time i borrowed was before pcs were properly in the mix..LOL

Oh my....that's awhile ago, Laura!! Hehe!! I used to buy all my books, and not read anywhere near as much as I do now, then it was mentioned to me, why don't you borrow some of your books. So I joined my local library, now I belong to the book club (LOVE it), and borrow HEAPS of books. I still buy my fav authors, but read heaps of different genres that I wouldn't have considered, had I been buying them. It has broadened my outlook considerably!

Just a tad! lol I used to go read in the lib on my lunch breaks from my last job (blessing in the winter months).
You know...It really is a smart idea to borrow books rather than buying them, as you mention you can discover so many more genres cause of it. Especially if you aren't sure on the author (who knows might turn out to be a fav).

AH, you might have just convinced me to actually get stuck back into the local lib!! :D!

Good luck with it Laura...it's fun there.:) Let me know if you can pick up The Help there too. One of the things I like about the library, is being able to access my account online, order books, check when they have to be returned etc. It's great.:)

Sounds like a plan! Might check it out when I'm required to go into town..lol I hate town here. And The Help will be one of the first books I go looking for! :D

I've heard about the online stuff from a friend who's an avid reader..Tried to get her into GR but she never stuck with it. But by the sounds it does sound grrreeeeaat!

Remember when we used to carve our name on trees, this was before emery boards became lethal weapons. The token of ones affection has been 'upgraded' to a lock. On the NSW Sea Cliff Bridge south of Sydney, which was opened in December 2005, instead of hearts on a tree we now have locks (not of hair), but of many different shapes and sizes.


Check the base of the safety rail (picture could be too small - sorry) and see how many there are and now a close up.



About half way along the southern part of the bridge all the saftey posts now have locks (sometimes more than one ) of different sizes & colours with various engraved messages. Perhaps a 21st Century tree :-o)

I just received this email from Random House, where you can meet different authors, who are signing new copies of their books...Jaye Ford (not in GR library yet), with 'Beyond Fear' will be at the Newcastle Tafe on Saturday 5th March 2.30-4pm. Among many others all over Australia...

Went to the movies the other night to see (The Way Back) http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1023114/ directed by Peter Weir, starring Colin Farrell, Ed Harris & Jim Sturgess. It was an excellent movie..thoroughly recommend.
While there, we saw the trailer for the movie Water for Elephants, coming soon. Stars Reece Witherspoon, Robert Pattinson and Christoph Waltz. It looked great..:)

I saw the shorts to Water for Elephants. Robert Pattinson looks good. I like him much better without the white makeup on. I really don't like Reece Witherspoon however. Blah!

Well, with regard to our wind storm yesterday, it's been described as a 'mini cyclone'. Houses at Port Stephens lost their roofs, and the winds were recorded up to 150kms per hour! The pub opposite our library had their fence blown over, thousands were without power, trees were blown over, and people were lucky not to have been killed! So I'm pretty sure we were very lucky!! It only lasted a few minutes, but was pretty scary at the time!

Yes, Robert Pattinson did look better than in the Twilight movies...I enjoyed Reece Witherspoon's performance in Johnny Cash's 'Walk the Line'. Can't say I remember her in much else tho..:)
