Maybe your house is just warmer than the houses I've lived in, Laureen!

No, I live a timber house we call "the tree house". We have a fire place but never use it. The timber floors have an occasional hole where the knot in the timber has fallen through.
I live on the North West side of Brisbane. Would that be the difference?

So kind of Indooroopilly area? I wouldn't think so - I live on the north side in the Pine Rivers area. Maybe you just are more impervious to the cold than me!
I love the cold, but that's because it's easier to get warm when it's cold (like I said, another blanket or another layer) than cool when it's hot!
And in Britain, there is central heating and you don't go outside (where it's cold) until you are suitably attired for it, so I never felt terribly cold there. It's different here with no central heating - and granted it's not often we need it, but on those days when it truly is icy, it is cold - especially when you're showering or changing clothes - anything that involves taking those layers off!!

No, not Indooroopilly. I live in the Pine shire too but West of Gympie Rd. Closer to Samford.
I agree. I prefer the winter to summer. I like to cuddle up with a throw or blanket and going to bed is bliss. Nothing like a good night's sleep.
My daughter, on the other hand (early 40s) loves summer. She hates winter. Loves it when the sky is blue and the sun is shining. Heat doesn't seem to effect her. Lucky devil. I don't have any energy in summer. Maybe it's an age thing!

My favourite daytime weather is when it is clear blue and suns out ... but it is brisk out. My favourite night weather is really cold so I can snuggle up in blankets.

Well I have just experienced an Earthquake. It is 11:30 and everything started shaking.

Yes, it was only 5.0 ... just alarming. It took me longer than I care to admit to realize what the sound and shake was. At first I was thinking "why is my TV shaking" then the main wave hit.

I am currently, mildly distressed. I am a tad afraid that it will happen again tonight.

Usually you will get aftershocks, but they'll be much milder, so much so that you'll probably not even feel them... don't stress about it now cos it's over! One so far in your lifetime - it's not likely again any time soon:)

Scary experience. But I guess it's probably good it's at night when most people are home and in bed.

Agreed; if this was 5.0 as they said. I would not care to experience any larger.

I would imagine not; that would be quite a shake.

That was the terrible one, I was about 12 and at Bateau Bay. Were you living in Newcastle then Brenda?
No that wasn't the Newcastle Earthquake Suz...it was after that and we were living in the Hunter Valley. The epicentre was about 2 kms as the crow flies from us. The walls of our house cracked, clock fell off the wall, bedheads crashed against the walls and woke the kids...it was very scary!

I experienced one in SouthAfrica. I was at work sitting at my desk and there was a huge marble pillar in front of me. I remember sitting and watching it move from side to side. It was scary!

Later, there was the Cadoux quake, and a variety of other rumbles - part of growing up in the hills outside Perth. We had tremors quite often - not usually major, thankfully.
Happy New Years everyone :D

It's 9.32am on the first day of 2016. 'Always start the new year like you mean to continue' was what I decided in the last days of December. But I'm quite good ignoring all my good intentions, lol. Needless to say, here I sit on GR, when the bed linen should be changed and the vacuuming should be done.

My resolution for 2016 is to slow down and find time to relax.

Well, just continue that throughout the year and you will be keeping your resolution! :)

I slept into 11am...lol Have worked out my new book challenge for this year...I also want to set my new reading goal on here but still shows 2015.
It will until tonight Laura - around 6-7pm it'll switch over - US time is way behind ours:) We have to be patient;)

From memory, I think we have to wait until this evening when it becomes midnight in GR time...

In the meantime, we can go to any of our groups where there are American members and we can gloat about our 2016 reading!!
