Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Happy New Year all! May 2016 bring what you want, especially in books!!
I have been spending my 12 days off cleaning my house (we have had no cleaner for a year, and DH's promise to do it as he wasn't working..... well, his priorities and mine don't quite match.
We are DEFINITELY getting a cleaner in '16, but I had to get the house back up to scratch for visitors expected later this month.

Today I have been THROWING THINGS OUT in my study. This is a pretty radical thing for me because I'm quite OCD and a bit of a hoarder, but VERY LIBERATING!!!
Have to rein in a bit, though, or I won't get it done within my time off work. Right now my study looks like "the storm before the calm". This is the expression I use to DH whenever I'm having a big rearrange/clean out and he comes along and says OMG!!

The mood I'm in, I could do this through all the house. but I'd need to take about a month off to do it properly....

The recycle bin is getting quite full, LOL.

message 25005: by Laureen (new)

Laureen (laureenandersonswfcomau) | 92 comments Marianne, we are doing the same thing. We had the idea to de clutter over our week off but it is such a major project that at 66/67 respectively, it is too much. Being an aged small business couple who work 6-7 days a week doesn't give us any time to work on the house during the year and, no, we don't have a domestic cleaner either.

De cluttering means making decisions and that is what this week was for - to rest our minds from decision making! Oh well, what will be will be.

message 25006: by Neko (new)

Neko I love decluttering something very liberating about it. Over the years I've tried to purchase less "bits and pieces" things so s-l-o-w-l-y I've got less to throw out. However, I believe a few years ago I made a mistake of throwing out something I really want back! lol Not easy to rebuy either but oh well.

I also like to put things in a box and if I don't use that stuff within a year I usually toss it the year later on.

So I was just thinking about the 2016 book challenge and, because I don't have anything better to do at the moment (although I could be reading, of course!!), I wondered whether anyone had any ideas on what colour it will be this year??

Regardless of what colour they choose, I can almost guarantee that there will be "discussion" about it in the Goodreads Feedback group, because there normally is! Or about the graphic used or the wording etc! Mildly amusing, at least for the first dozen posts or so - gets a bit tedious after that!

I know we've had a teal colour recently, but given the recent changes, I wonder if they'll use a teal-like variation... Or maybe, we've just had purple, maybe it will be pink.

It doesn't bother me but I can't believe the pettiness of the "discussions" about this sort of thing (and everything else) in the FB group!!! I rarely go there anymore - it's all just nasty stuff happening!

Sally906 | 87 comments Laura wrote: "Sally - sadly i can believe that! there was some news article about it too!"

I think I read somewhere that some bakers in Melbourne had a demonstration to make Hot Cross Buns special and only sell them for a couple of weeks leading up to Easter. They wanted to persuade the large chains to do it as well. I actually would love that to happen - same with Easter eggs. They should be special.

message 25024: by Neko (new)

Neko I'd love it if that would happen! Seeing the buns n eggs out way before easter just spoils it.

I can't see anything in the Feedback group Kiera (yet) but I suspect it's GR's problem. Keep trying for awhile and if you can't manage it then go to the group - https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/... - check there's not a thread made for it already (in Bugs) and open a thread for it:) Good luck!

No personal emotional stuff but the decisions would be harder because you would have to read the owner's emotions - "No not that, that belonged to me Aunty!" Lol

Sally906 | 87 comments Faye wrote: "Can someone help please, I have left one job and are starting another on the tax form do I tick yes to claim my tax free component or not I am a bit confused. Thanks"

Yes you tick it. The only time you don't is if the job is a second or third job. You can only apply for tax free on one job

Hope that makes sense

So if you've left one job and starting another there will only be one income so yes you're entitled to tax free component.
If you're still working in a job and then get a second job - you're not entitled to tax free component on second one :)

I think professional declutterers set rules with their clients to overcome that.
Not that I am IN ANY WAY professional. I haven't done my own house, but I reckon, EXCEPT FOR BOOKS, OF COURSE(!!!) I could do someone else's, as long as I didn't end up wanting to take the stuff home myself, LOL

Oh no, you're not a closet hoarder like me, I hope Marianne! I think I do need a professional declutter come to think of it. My DH wants to keep all his stuff but wants me to get rid of all my stuff. What to do! Decisions are no longer my strong point.

I enjoyed it. I'm looking forward to seeing where they take the story from here on. There were a significant number of 'nods' to the old movies, but I suspect now that's done, we may be in for some surprises. (Or at least I hope so.)
