I am still trying to get rid of some of my "pasta pounds" or "croissant kilos" from my holiday, and snacking on the left over fudge and slice I made for get togethers isn't helping!

message 25235: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) ooooh, fudge, I'd be a goner there too, Marianne. You certainly walk enough to give those pounds short shrift !

message 25236: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Cobcroft | 58 comments Can I change the topic? Sorry! I want to chat about reviews. I have sold two hundred copies of my latest novel, but all as printed copies and nearly all to people who aren't particularly computer-savvy and don't like e-books. So reviews are VERY thin on the ground, even though I've had some lovely feedback in letters from readers. One of my readers tried to post an Amazon review yesterday but found you can't without buying at least one book from Amazon. She doesn't want to!

How can I deal with this challenge? I need some Amazon and Goodreads reviews. Specifically, I need another 4 Amazon reviews to achieve eligibility to pursue a promotion campaign.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

message 25237: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Cobcroft | 58 comments PS. I love fudge too! And Christmas cake - which I had nearly devoured, but some ants liked it too and while we were away for the weekend they infested the last few slices, sadly.

message 25238: by Neko (new)

Neko *raises hand and joins in with the I'm on holidays still group*

Today is my families traditional day of cherry picking...Except we go buy them directly from the cherry farms..Which takes us on a lovely trip through the Huon. There is also a folk festival on too so down that way is packed with activity.

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments Phrynne wrote: "I am still on holiday thank you all very much!!! Only just finished the Xmas cake yesterday."

Ha! We went away and left food in our fridge from xmas day including xmas cake and pudding. About five days later our daughter called and said there was a horrible smell in the house. My husband told her to throw away the food from xmas day in the fridge, EXCEPT THE XMAS CAKE AND PUDDING WRAPPED IN FOIL.

We returned a few days later, and our silly girl had also thrown away the cake and pudding. Ppfft!

message 25240: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Cobcroft | 58 comments Interesting comment, Sharon. I have read article after article stressing the importance of reviews and suggesting you simply can't sell books without them. I sold most of the 200 on a road trip around Australia, all by word of mouth directly from me or - more often - from others who had purchased it. I'm lousy at marketing, but I saw an offer for a promotion I thought sounded good and very affordable but they require 5 Amazon reviews giving 4 stars or more. I'd be interested to hear from others on this subject.

message 25241: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Cobcroft | 58 comments Thanks Sharon. My novel won 5th prize in an international novel contest, and readers seem to love it, so it can't be too bad. Guess I'll just keep pecking away and hoping to break through one day, somehow.

Congratulations on that win. You should be chuffed at that.

Guys I'm sorry but the discussion about your books and reviews needs to be done in the Author spotlight section - you can make a new thread devoted specifically to the topic if you'd like. Thanks :)

message 25244: by Lorraine (new)

Lorraine Cobcroft | 58 comments Sorry Brenda. Didn't realize there was any restriction. I was being careful not to name the book as I wasn't trying to promote - only querying about reviews.

That sounds lovely Laura. The Huon is a gorgeous part of Tasmania....well most of Tassie is pretty awesome. This time last year we were getting ready for our trip there. Can't wait to get back soon. Enjoy the drive and the cherries. :)

Sally906 | 87 comments Taking it nice and easy today. Is SO humid we already have the air conditioner on!

I am virtuously going through my bedroom cupboards - putting clothes I haven't worn for years in a bag to take to the op shop and throwing out accumulated clutter. Is a bit scary how big the pile is!

Lorraine we are predominantly a reading group. What you were doing was talking about marketing and promoting, which is your prerogative as a writer. And that's why we have a special place for our authors.

message 25249: by Neko (new)

Neko Elaine - Did you go all around Tassie or just stuck to a certain part?
Thanks we shall :) Yea, Huon is lovely area..I sometimes just go for a drive down there to escape..Always relaxes me :)
