I can think of nothing sadder than what is happening to you guys. I hope there is some relief, perhaps a little slowing of any advancement of your nan's illness. And gosh, your aunty ... hugs hugs

message 25513: by Neko (new)

Neko Thanks all for your comments..It's pretty hard to take it in cause of how quickly everything went downhill...And my grandfather is a trooper but gosh I've never seen him look so broken..That really tugs on my heart strings..He's been making jokes to lighten things up but still.

It doesn't look like things will slow down not from all the testing that's been happening since Monday.

I think tomorrow I'm going to their house to help clean it up..But really I just want to help ease things for my mum cause it's tough on her (it's her Mum) and I think it's getting to her as much as she's trying not to let on...much to deal with (as most would know).

message 25514: by Sharon (last edited Jan 22, 2016 02:30AM) (new)

Sharon Robards (sharonrobards) | 944 comments Laura, you sound like such a wonderful daughter I'm sure your mum, pop, everyone appreciates you... always remember though, to take a little time for yourself.

These things are draining, and very wearing and I have a similar thing happening, but I'm the mum, (a mother, and daughter of an ill mother) and it isn't nice ... and I imagine the experience of these type of life changing events is so different for each person, but one thing is similar ...

that thought of loss, that uncertainty when loss will happen, and all the emotions that we go through trying to understand what is happening.

The pain is horrible, but having gone through it with my grandmother (just like you are now) before my mother, which is currently happening, I know there is light at the end ... going through it with my grandmother has given me great strength. It gets worse, than does get better somewhere along the way ... and then we do it again.

Brenda wrote: "Saw that on the news Melissa! Terrible day, and so much of it happening over in the US..."

Indeed very sad. Fortunately, in Canada it is not the regular occurrence that it is in the USA. Additionally, I wish people from both sides of the border would stop using this event for politics and just mourn the 5 students that have lost their lives.

Feel a bit sorry for the new Prime Minister ... only been in a few months and we have been keeping him busy. Must be a tough job.

Sorry to hear this Laura - a friend at work is going through the same thing - her father though is the one with rapid dementia and he is the main caregiver for her mother. They have managed to get the two of them in homes - but sadly not the same one.

Just take care of yourself and take time to smell the roses.

It is horrifying. I simply don't understand how a person could choose to do such a thing. Sigh ... I hope the deceased rest in peace and the survivors manage to overcome the mental trauma.

That is awful :(

message 25532: by Neko (new)

Neko Thanks guys! Yea, it's certainly an eye opener as to what has to happen n so much to do. And i am sorry that of you guys have gone through this type of stuff as well.

I spent morning til lunchtime at my grandparents house cleaning out cobwebs n lots of paper stuff...But mum said it was great i came along cause she could talk with someone while we cleaned...We uncovered some startling stuff in the paperwork that'd we'd never heard anything about.

Then later today my uncle who's wife just passed popped down for a visit.. So another action packed day...Tomorrow it's the same thing and I'm more than happy to help...Pop was happy that we are making "in roads" on some stuff...We all let out a mighty cheer when we could see the green lounge chair as for months it's been getting stuff piled on it. He gave me the biggest hug and even looked some what brighter (it was the look in his eyes).

Neko Went and visited my nanny in hospital today...i had really no idea what to expect but it went better than expected! :) Have been cleaning my grandparents house for 3 days straight..basically doing an hour or so a day.

Was funny as I went to the supermarket and this elderly couple were working out that tomorrow is Australia Day and the husband said straight away that "because it's Australia Day we have to have lamb chops!" - I think advertising worked well on them..lol
