Suz | 4434 comments Hi Sydney friends, I'm after some library/author/literary events to attend for an assessment for TAFE over the next many weeks. The event doesn't necessarily need to be at a library, as the Sydney Writers Festival is also acceptable. If you know of/hear of any events could you please let me know? Anywhere in Sydney would be great!

Hope that foot is starting to feel better now, Laura. I have done that one too many years ago and it is painful.

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Brenda, our mum used to use a 'blue bag' on bee stings which really soothed the pain. link: https://victoriancollections.net.au/i...

Now my secret is out why I have the whitest whites among my family and friends!

Carolyn | 9840 comments I remember blue bags Bette. I don't think you can get them anymore or can you - is that you're secret?. I wonder what the active ingredient is?

We used to often get bee stings on our feet from walking barefoot in the garden, especially when the Jacaranda dropped it's flowers on the lawn as the bees loved that.

I know this sounds funny coming from me but it is fir DH. My husband has a kindle which has been sitting ignored on his desk for months. As a result battery has gone flat. When he tried to put it on and recharge the battery nothing happened. Any suggestions anyone?

Press down and hold the power button for about ten seconds Dale and then retry. It might take awhile to recharge if it went totally flat, but...in my experience, they don't usually go flat when not being used. I think the power on/off should work.
Do you charge it through the computer via the usb? I find that does it pretty quickly.

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments @Dale, make sure he is using the right charging cable, some others may fit but don't work. I used to always confuse my camera lead with the kindle lead :/

Dale Harcombe | 6890 comments Okay, thanks. He will check that out, Julie.

Unfortunately it wasn't as simple as wrong lead, Julie. He will try your other suggestion tomorrow. Running out of time today as other things need to happen. Thanks for you suggestions. I have no idea how he usually charges it. I keep right away from the kindle.

Jülie ☼♄  (jlie) | 6581 comments Ours used to flush one 'blue bag' down the ouside loo once in a while to stop the tree roots from cracking the (old terra cotta style) pipes in search of water.

LOL!!!

message 25824: by Neko (new)

Neko Turns out I had an itchy foot in the morning but nothing more than that...So, I hope I'm not allergic to stings as I've been told sometimes you don't react first sting but second one can be worse.

I used Apple Cider Vinegar on it...I had the stinger removed very quickly and planted my foot in ice for hours afterwards....I'm very thankful I just had to put up with a numb foot at one point and nothing more..lol

If the stinger actually went deeper in perhaps it would of been a different story.

YAY! 3 day weekend :D

message 25831: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) Veronica, really, gosh! I had my hair tied to rags at night to keep the curl, and I thought that was weird, as well as really comfortable.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments do you mean really UNcomfortable, Bette?

message 25833: by Marianne (new)

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9976 comments Phrynne wrote: "No I won't be going. Too much trouble after a day at work:)"

I would need to take a day (or afternoon off) as there's no way I'd get there in time after work, plus I'd be so tired I'd fall asleep, and what a waste that would be! Maybe Richard Fidler will interview him and I can listen to a podcast.....

message 25834: by B the BookAddict (new)

B the BookAddict (bthebookaddict) yeah, lol, meant 'uncomfortable'. I hated them!

Julie and Phrynne, You are gems. Thanks Kindle rescuers. DH got his kindle back last night following your suggestions. It was 2am. I was sleeping, so not sure exactly what worked or if it needed both. But big thanks to you both for your help. Greatly appreciated.

Went to see Deadpool at the cinema this evening. It was really funny. Laugh out loud funny. The whole audience enjoyed it and clapped at the end. I came out with a big grin on my face.
