Betelgeuze | 158 comments I've recently realised that the female lead in many PNR books is either a virgin or a woman who had less than satisisfying relationships before she met her hero. Has anyone else noticed this? or am i just reading the wrong books?

Most PNR writers are women and i find it a bit strange that they write their characters as sexually inexperienced. Some cultures that are oppressive to women put a high value on virginity, but most PNR writers are from western coutries where one would expect to have a more enlightened view on sex.

Anyone have any ideas on the prevalence of sexually inexperienced woman in PNR?

Kathy Anne (kathyanne) I think there are a lot of virgins in all the romance genre,I think it`s because men value it in our culture too so writers do too, don`t know if the readers do or not.
I did see on TV on The Glades a lady telling a cop he`d be surprised how many women fake it.

Lori {Romancing the Dark Side} (romancingthedarkside) | 58 comments I think you might be reading the wrong books Betelgeuze (love the name!)! Most of the heroines I've read about have had past relationships and are pretty experienced..not all but most. I don't think I've read of any virgins...not in this genre anyway, most of the leading women are strong, independent and sexually experienced.
