This here is the thread for a spoilery good time while discussing the book!

Synopsis:
John Wayne Cleaver is dangerous, and he knows it.

He’s spent his life doing his best not to live up to his potential.

He’s obsessed with serial killers, but really doesn’t want to become one. So for his own sake, and the safety of those around him, he lives by rigid rules he’s written for himself, practicing normal life as if it were a private religion that could save him from damnation.

Dead bodies are normal to John. He likes them, actually. They don’t demand or expect the empathy he’s unable to offer. Perhaps that’s what gives him the objectivity to recognize that there’s something different about the body the police have just found behind the Wash-n-Dry Laundromat---and to appreciate what that difference means.

Now, for the first time, John has to confront a danger outside himself, a threat he can’t control, a menace to everything and everyone he would love, if only he could.

If you've already read this, what was your favorite thing about the book?

Katt_goddess | 269 comments Finished it yesterday. :P

One of the reasons why I don't often read mystery / killer type books is that I tend to guess really good and sadly I knew it was the old neighbor by chapter 5. -.-; I even almost got the goo right - I had thought it was coughed-up lung tar and I was sorta right...I just didn't realize how much more 'lung' it was. :D So I guess that would be the good / favorite thing about the book, that it literally turns around from what you expect to be the rest of the story and goes all Twilight Zone instead.

Still found the first few chapters a bit difficult to read since I have way too vivid an imagination when I get sucked into a book. O.<

I should pay attention to what thread I'm in before reading posts. Whoops. >_<

Andra | 75 comments finished it yesterday. Anyone think that he was the guy doing the killings the whole entire time? I still thought so. Plus I really liked the last line of the book.

message 6: by Jingai (new)

Jingai | 56 comments I'm about half way through the book. So far it isn't bad, I'm still getting the whole "Dark Half" vibe from his narrative, particularly when he talks about the monster and the wall.

Jingai | 56 comments So I finished the book last night and today.
It wasn't that bad, but I must confess I saw the
ending coming from a mile away. It is a nice
change of pace from the fantasy stories though.
