Group Rules - Please Read
No problem Nancy. Most is stuff people in the group already know but figured it was time, especially with new members joining to get it all written down.

Games, discussions, comments with the authors, buddy reads: you have given this site everything we want and can organize anything else someone finds to add.
Thanks so much for all you do.
Thank you Vicky. Not everyone realizes how much time the work takes to keep a group running smoothly. And, of course, it's an unpaid job so it's nice to know all the hard work is appreciated.
I have added "Additional Guidelines" to the first post. We havn't had a problem. I'm just being proactive. Easier to post them now, in case we have any problems in the future. Most is just common sense to be polite to others.

You're welcome Katherine. I tried making it easier to navigate. And feel free to make your own thread under member's reading lists to keep track of your various challenges.

Your welcome. Most is common sense, like play nice. But I thought it would be helpful to have it all posted and a description of the various folders so you know where to find things.

Also-as I've said I'm new to this group & I wanted to thank all you who set it up & keep it going. It's a beautifully laid out site, very clear. Makes it so much easier to navigate. I really appreciate it-& I'm very impressed as well.
Thank you for all your work & creativity.

I really do think you all should get some official recognition or thanks from the rest of us. I'm going to think about this.
It helps just knowing the work is appreciated. For example, just getting a new featured author posting ready, with all the works written by that author listed, in order, with links to every book in GRs... can take me hours. Depending on the author and how much they've written, I've spent entire afternoons on it sometimes getting it all researched, organized, typed up, and all the links to each book inserted.

Now that I have copied your featured author for my other group I have a new appreciation for this! I am lazier than you and just copy and paste a list from somewhere else on the internet and expect people to do their own seach for the book on here. Thanks again for your hard work :)

I think a lot of people set up their own challenges in one place for themselves and then when they've completed them they copy it over to the thread pertaining to each challenge. At least that's what I do, so I'm not making multiple posts to the same thread. I find it's easier for me that way.

If you look under "Member's Reading Lists" and then "Melodie's Challenges" you can see how I have mine setup!
The official thread for each challenge is where we keep track of each challenge. However, you don't have to post there until you're done, or just to say you're signing up. I set up a folder where everyone can make a thread for their own use to keep track of multiple challenges to make it easier to manage them.

Modification to rules posted above (and listed here for your convienence):
Please keep your comments G rated as this group is open to all ages and GRs is open to users 13 years old and older. So please no cursing. This also applies to our games. In reference to the movie/actor game, please do not list any adult X rated, ie pornographic movies.

Welcome Shayla. Most rules are simple enough to follow even if you hadn't read them as they are common sense about being polite, etc. When I first took over the group it had no organization, just 50+ different threads. I made folders and sorted everything to make the group more user friendly.

*EDITED*
All spammers will be immediately removed from the group and banned from rejoining without warning and their posts permanently removed. Spamming is will not be tolerated.
[This is in response to the recent post where someone with a puppet account (0 books, recently joined, no reviews) created a post telling others they could win $50,000 by reading books.]

YAAAAYYY!! :-)

Sorry I didn't catch it sooner but I can't always be here every day nor read every post. I do try to read new threads to make sure they aren't stuff like this, or self-promotions that need to be moved to the correct thread.
No need to be sorry, Briansgirl. This should be fun, not a duty (although with spammer it's difficult, I clean them at a forum *evil grin* )

No problem. In case I don't see a spammer somewhere else in the group, this would be a good place to report it. I always check the admin threads.

Thanks Heather. When I find these I just delete them. Takes too much time to keep warning them. (Authors take note!).

I think they probably don't understand the rules. We grow leaps and bounds by the day! I haven't looked lately to see how many members there are but it amazes me!
1. Please be respectful and polite to others. If disagreements occur, remember to critique the book(s) not the person posting. Anyone breaking the rules will be removed from the group at the moderator's discretion.
2. If you start a new topic thread, please look and find the appropriate folder for your topic. (See explanation of folders below.) Please be sure to check that there isn't already a thread available that fits your topic. Duplicate threads will be closed for discussion with a link to the older thread as I cannot combine threads. The new thread will be removed after folks have had time to find the link to the older thread. This is done so that we aren't overwhelmed with too many threads covering the same topics.
3. There are a few folders that are closed to members adding threads to. It's up to the moderator to add monthly featured authors, group challenges and fun & games. There are suggestion threads available for all three that you can post to suggesting what you'd like to see. The reason the challenges and fun & games are moderator posted is not only to approve them first so they fit in with our group, but to space them out so that we get a little something new all the time instead of a whole lot all at once.
4. Adding books to the group bookshelf can be done by any members, however, they must be shelved as "read". "Currently Reading" and "To-Read" are reserved for our featured author group reads.
5. Self Promotion is welcome provided it follows group rules. There is a seperate thread covering self promotion here. Please read those rules before posting. If you spam the group with promotions and don't follow the rules, the posts will be removed.
Group Folders:
General: Any book related topic that doesn't fit anywhere else.
Admin: For use by the moderators only.
Cozy Corner: This is unique to Cozy Mysteries, and it's for specific cozy topics.
Reading Challenges: This is where you'll find group challenges. Only moderators add challenges. Members are free to post to the suggestions thread for challenges they'd like to see. Suzanne posts our monthly themes to read.
Featured Cozy Authors: This is where the group features a specific cozy author every month. Members are encouraged to read something by the featured author that month. Only moderators add featured authors but members are free to post suggestions for who they'd like to see featured in the suggestions thread.
Cozy Authors: This is where we discuss various cozy authors. There is a special thread if you're a cozy author who has joined us to introduce yourself and let us know what you've written.
Buddy Reads: A buddy read is where someone posts a book that they'd like to read along with someone else, so they can have a discussion about the book as they read. Anyone can add a buddy read.
Books & Series Discussion: This is where you can discuss a specific series and/or book(s).
Find a book or series: This is where you can find suggestions for specific types of books or themes.
What do you think?: This is where you can give your opinion, or ask others opinions on various book related topics.
Member's Reading Lists: This is where any member can create their own thread to keep track of all their various challenge lists. It's helpful to have them all in one place.
Fun & Games: This is where we have a little fun playing different types of online games. They may or may not be book related. Please ask before posting a new game.
Upcoming New Releases: This folder was created to help keep track of upcoming new cozy releases. Sherrie does this for us. Post to any monthly thread with a new cozy release and Sherrie will edit the main post to include it so that there is one list at the top where it's easy to see what's coming out.
GR Links & Other Websites: This is the place to post links to other Goodreads groups, listopia lists, or book related blogs or websites.
Off Topic Discussions: This is where you can put absolutely anything that doesn't fit anywhere else. Topics do not have to be book related. This is where you can chat with friends about anything. All I ask is that the topics are G rated and family oriented.
Conferences: We had alot of posts concerning various book related conferences and it seemed easier and more convienent to put them all in one place.
Self Promotions & Giveaways: This is where you can post about any book giveaways, self promotions, etc. (See above about posting rules) Posts that just advertise books for sale with their prices, even if not posted by the author, will be moved here as they read and feel like advertisements.
6. Additional Behavior Guidelines:
We want everyone to have fun here, so here are a few guidelines that must be followed:
Treat other members courteously, as though you were a guest in their home.
Nobody has the right to abuse anyone verbally, to spam the forum, or make offensive remarks, including but not limited to posts that include racism, sexism, or comments derogatory to another’s sexuality.
Please keep your comments G rated as this group is open to all ages and GRs is open to users 13 years old and older. So please no cursing. This also applies to our games. In reference to the movie/actor game, please do not list any adult X rated, ie pornographic movies.
Arguments are a part of the forum experience. Opinions on this site are diverse and sometimes directly polarized. We all love reading threads where there are many opposing ideas, but any differences must be addressed with respect.
We will not tolerate when individuals go beyond these boundaries— it’s not fun to read and destroys community atmosphere. Keep the arguments restricted to books and ideas, don’t attack people.
WARNINGS AND REPERCUSSIONS
Abuses to the above guidelines will result in an immediate warning. Continued abuses will result in a second, and final, warning. Persistent abuse after the two warnings will result in a ban from Cozy Mysteries. EDITED: If anyone is rude or abusive to any of the group moderators openly in the group, there will be no warnings and you will be immediately banned. If you cannot respect what the (unpaid) moderators do to keep this group running, then you do not deserve to be here.
7. Spamming
All spammers will be immediately removed from the group and banned from rejoining without warning and their posts permanently removed. Spamming will not be tolerated.
I hope everyone enjoys our group.
