Emily | 55 comments Okay I have another challenge for you guys! This is a picture book, I read it in probably the early 90s, but I have no idea when it was written. It was about a forest where the trees had human faces (as a little kid I was pretty creeped out). The illustrations were lush and colorful, my copy was a hard back and purple around the edges with a drawing of the forest in the center.

As for the story line I can't remember much except that i think one tree fell down and maybe died...it was one of those introducing kids to the circle of life kind of things.

Thanks in advance!

Emily | 55 comments no,thats not it. It wasn't a scary book or had anything to do with ghosts. but thanks for your help

Kerry (libraryleo) | 13 comments I recall a book similar, a story about why trees lose their leaves and why pine trees don't. One of the trees kills another and that kind of tree is punished to 'die' in winter. I cannot remember the name, "The Tree war" or the "The war of the Trees", there is a human who deals this punishment. It sounds scary, but it was a children's book with great pictures.

Emily | 55 comments not this either :/

Mir | 802 comments In my edition of The Enchanted Forest (I think that was the title... you know, the fairy tale where the little princess is hidden in the forest and raised by the animals) the trees had faces.

I have been looking for that same book for years! I cannot find it anywhere and it is my favorite book from growing up. I gave it away to the school library so others could enjoy it too and as an adult I almost wish I hadn't given it away. That book is so vivid in my memory but i cannot find it anywhere. Have you come across this one?

Update: I found it, and ordered multiple copies. The book's name is The First Forest.
