Ranata Clark Or can you read them separately? I'm not big on werewolves so I don't want to read Bitten or Stolen but I would like to read the Dime Store Magic one. So just wanted to know if you have to read them in succession or are they stand alone?

Christina Nope, you don't. Kelley Armstrong says on her website that she wrote the books so that you can read them in any order without feeling confused. So skip ahead to Dime Store Magic if you want!

Jael ~ *~ Syhren ~* ~ That's great to know because I didn't want to read the 3rd or 4th book. I really liked Bitten and want to read more on Elena and the pack without feeling lost.

Isabel Vazquez That's what I did. I read all of Elena's (narrating), then I went back to reading them in order. all I can say is that they were awesome!!

Kate I've definitely skipped around! I read the newest one after reading the first couple because I wanted to find out more about Savannah, and it was totally fine.

Tricia (McAllister) Houseman I haven't read them in order. I skip around, but She definately makes sure you know what is going on with bits to explain.

Temple Rose I always ended up reading them in semi order 2nd before the first one 3rd after I read the seventh one. And it never muddle or upset my outcome o the series because it sucks you in.

Jamie Tainter Wow, that is so crazy because I started reading Frostbitten first then I read bitten. I havent gotten around to stolen, yet.

Heather Actually, IMO, the Elena books are far stronger than the other books by this author, I would hate to skip them!

message 10: by Gerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gerd Although you don't _have to_ read them in order it makes sense to do so because of the way characters cross over from one book to the other.

Even if you, like me, keep to her Elena Michaels stories.

message 11: by EJ (new) - rated it 4 stars

EJ MACK I did not either. I liked Clay and Elena's story. However I am about to get into the story with Jeremy.

Taddy No you don't but honestly, if you do the series is much better as the characters frequently cross over into all the the books. I thought that I would not like any other narrator other than Elena, and while she remains my favorite of them, I really surprised myself with how much I loved Jaime, Eve and of course Paige. Even when the males of the series occasionally narrate I still enjoy the books.

This has become hands down my favorite series, and I am glad I took the time to read them in order. Kelley has a list of chronological reading order including short stories from anthologies and her free fiction on her website.

Regan Not really -- but I will say this, I'm not a fan of werewolves or first person books. Kelley Armstrong is the exception to that. I fell so totally in lust with Clay and after reading everything she writes as soon as I can get my hands on it, I'm still hooked on him. It's not your typical werewolf paranormal that you see way too many of these days. She has a great story to go with it. Also, you should check out her Nadia Stafford series although I have to admit I'm disappointed that there are only 2 books and she hasn't seemed to continue that series. It's one of the best suspense/thrillers I've read.

Mariela Dime Store Magic is my favorite of the books. I love Lucas and Paige. I read them all in order till hunted , skipped hunted to get to Broken. I love Elena and Clay and Jeremy and Nick and Antonio.

message 15: by Jean (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jean Mc I personally jumped around alot. Kelley puts enough description so that if you haven't read the other books you aren't lost.

message 16: by Lele (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lele I don't really think you need to. i read all the ones that had Clay and Elena in it and it was pretty easy to follow.

message 17: by Lida (new) - rated it 4 stars

Lida I have read Bitten first, then Frostbitten, and then went back and followed the series, like Stolen, Dime store magic etc... and agree, you dont have to read it in order, but it is so much more fun, meeting the new characters as they come along!!!

Alana ~ The Book Pimp I read this series out of order, and it was just fine. The later books, like Frostbite, for example, might be better (and more fully understood) by reading the previous stories. That was the only one that jarred me a little by reading it out of sequence. Great series, by the way!

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) I didn't read them in order. In fact, I skipped all except those narrated by Elena. I wasn't really interested in the stories of the others.

Melissa johnson i started to read it but then i got a little bored with it after dime store is it worth reading or should i just forget about this series???

Melissa johnson Terri wrote: "I didn't read them in order. In fact, I skipped all except those narrated by Elena. I wasn't really interested in the stories of the others."

i think thats how i am i really olike elena but the other ones i am not that intrested in do you know all the books that she is in so i can atleast read them

Melissa johnson does anyone know if jeremy has a book if so what is the name

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) Bitten, Stolen, Broken, Frostbitten

Terri ♥ (aka Mrs. Christian Grey) Spoiler - After reading those, I know that Jeremy is dating one of the other charaters. So, he should be in her series I imagine.

message 25: by Gerd (new) - rated it 4 stars

Gerd Jeremy doesn't have a book of his own (yet, to my knowledge) but I think he features prominently in one of the short stories Kelley Armstrong had up on her website:

Actually see the Wiki link for more info on the short stories:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Women_of...

Malia Men of the Otherworld has more about Jeremy. I can't remember if Tales of the Otherworld did as well.

AlbertaJenn Most series you can read seperately. Especially if the books change lead characters. I just happen to be one of those anal people that have to read a series in order. But I know from working in a bookstore that people skip around all the time!

Celise I thought I would only like the werewolves but the rest of the series was pleasantly surprising. Although you don't need to read them chronologically, time passes through all the books and affects even the characters who are not present in that story. So there may be five years between Stolen and Broken (werewolves) but they were all mentioned in the books between.

Most characters find their intro in another book so I do recommend reading in order.

Diane I read these out of order initially. I read all the warewolve narrator ones first. I didn't realize, initially that the others were part of the same series.
I read the others out of order as well. I had maybe one or two instances of "Wait... when was that?" but only because I was so invested in the characters. I have since gone back and and am rereading in order now.
My favorite series, behind Outlander.

Taddy If you are an Elena fan, know that she does show up in many of the other books even if she isn't the narrator. Same is true for some of the werewolves.
In "Industrial Magic" Clay, Elena and Jeremy all have a major appearance and effect on the plot.

Jeremy is a main character in "No Humans Allowed" which is actually narrated by Jaime. Karl makes an appearance in that one as well.

Karl (werewolf) Is a major character in both "Personal demon" and "Living with the dead"

So if the werewolves your faves it is worth reading them all in order as I pointed put because they do show up in other books. And as someone else wisely pointed out time does pass between novels, so with each book we get an update on almost all the major characters even if they are not featured prominently in the book, so it is a nice way to keep the continuity going.

This is especially important leading up to her 13th book in the series the one coming out next year after Spellbound. Actually having read the whole series makes reading Spellbound her latest in the series make a lot more sense than if you haven't read all the books, as there are things from the whole series that are culminating starting in Spellbound and then ultimately being the very baseline of the plot in the next book. There are many things in Spellbound and a whole lot of things I imagine in the next book that will not make sense if you haven't read the series.

I don't want to give away anything else, but I will say this. Give all the books a chance! Yes some of them I did not enjoy as much as others. Hope and Savannah for instance are my two least favorite narrators, but I still enjoyed the story lines and content of their books, as the other characters in the books are ones that I like very much. Elena, Paige, Jaime and Eve in that order are my faces, although Lucas narrating is not too shabby!

The Otherworld series is hands down my favorite Urban Fantasy series.

=^☺^=mskitty I just finished Men Of the Otherworld which is Jeremy and Clay's story...I LOVED it. I didn't even know it was out there until I saw it on someone's list. My favorites of the series are the ones with the werewolves, but they are all good stories. I also would recommend reading in order.

Minne well i start it like you 2 books i got so lost that i start to read them in order again and i like them better {love men of the underworld too};P

message 33: by Elayne (last edited Oct 01, 2011 05:28AM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Elayne I'm trying to read them in order, I've read Bitten and am reading Stolen now. Its good to know it will be ok if I get them out of turn though!

Celise It's pretty easy to read them in order once you get over the change in Dime Store Magic. After that just follow the list in the inside cover, or the publishing dates.

Elayne Well I haven't read DSM yet...should I?

Celise Definitely. The werewolves are my favourite characters in the series but they are mentioned in every consecutive novel and I found DSM's narrator grew on me. I haven't been disappointed with the series yet-or the main characters for that matter- and I am on the eighth. I intended to skip a few but I'm glad that I didn't because the timeline makes more sense this way.

Elayne I've just checked DSM out and it is actually the 3rd in the series so I'm on track haha...nearly finished Stolen now.

Aestas Book Blog which of these are the most romantic??
and would it make sense to read all of Elena/Clay's books only in order to get their story? or would I be missing key plot points from their involvement in the other books that aren't necessarily 'theirs'?

Celise The most romantic, in my opinion, has so far been No Humans Involved, with Jaime and Jeremy (werewolf). Of course, his story makes the most sense if you've read the series in order. The Clay/Elena romance WILL make sense out of order but those little tidbits of them mentioned elsewhere are still worth reading the others. It's not that you would miss key plot points about them, but some things referenced in the Elena books might not sound familiar to you unless you've read the others. Also, in Haunted (I think it was that one), Elena and the werewolves are present for several chapters.

Elayne I'm enjoying getting to know all the characters and as they often appear or are mentioned in the books throughout the series I think it best to read them in order. I'm on to Broken #6 now and although some have not been as good as others (still ok though) I'm pleased I've read them and know whats going on all the time in the stories.

Aestas Book Blog can someone rate give me a comparison to another book series of how much the romance is a part of the story?

Elayne Its not so much romance as deep protective love and all that goes with it. Clay is passionately possessive and his love for Elena is awesome.....they're pack wolves after all!

Celise I really think you should just read it and find out for yourself. You will hopefully be pleasantly surprised. What would be the fun if we outlined the entire romance right here?

I will say, romance is not the central genre, but that's hard to talk about because this series fits into almost every genre.

Elayne Celise wrote: "I really think you should just read it and find out for yourself. You will hopefully be pleasantly surprised. What would be the fun if we outlined the entire romance right here?

I agree..thats why I like these books so much!

Gerd Aestas wrote: "which of these are the most romantic?..."

I would go with "Broken", I thought the acting all fatherly Jeremy was just too cute in that one.

Aestas Book Blog mkay... i'll read them all then lol

Elayne I've just started No Humans Involved (Women of the Otherworld, #7) by Kelley Armstrong

message 48: by Trace (new)

Trace Riles I would suggest reading them in order. This is a fantastic series!

Isabel Vazquez The very best thing to do is start out with "Men of the Otherworld" except the last chapter of that book which contains spoilers...That way when you read "Bitten" you know what happen to Clay before. That's all I am going to spill, lol!!! This Series is one of my favorites!!

Tennae Ive had to skip a couple due to limited availability here in Australia/living in a small town...and my own inability to be patient, but haven't felt the lack too much, it is nice to see the charachters change and grow though.
