In the last year or so, I borrowed a book from the library. I really enjoyed it, but for the life of me, I can't remember the title or author. (And my library doesn't save my borrowing history.) I'm hoping someone on here can help me remember, because I'd like to read other books by this author.
The book was fairly recent & hard cover - I found it browsing the recent arrivals shelf, so I'm guessing it was published after 2006.
It was fantasy, and involved a woman who was part of magical military unit. They would enter a sort of otherworld with other magic-capable fighters at a central place, not actually physically fighting, although there were dangers in getting untethered from reality while fighting. Suddenly "peace" is declared, the magical militia is disbanded, but it's all really a trick by the other side. The bad guy was a new "peaceful" foreigner who at first appeared to be romancing the woman, but their lovemaking is violent, and the woman can't escape the feeling she is being watched by dozens of people whenever they are intimate.

Does this ring a bell for anyone?
