Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) November 2010: Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day- Read a book where the protagonist has a special ability, talent, hobby, etc.

Have fun with this one- I think it'll sprout some interesting books :)

message 2: by Amy (new)

Amy So does this encompass any type of talent? Supernatural or otherwise?

message 3: by Jesi (new)

Jesi (pwnedkitten) | 198 comments it isn't worded YA-specific - seeing as this is a YA group, I could assume that all books should be YA, but I wanted to make sure.

The following are books that I think could qualify toward this - would you mind looking them over and letting me know if they do or not?

The Giver - MC appears to be the only one with the ability to see the world for what it is

Haroun and the Sea of Stories - "storyteller who loses his skill and a struggle against mysterious forces attempting to block the seas of inspiration from which all stories are derived"

I Am Number Four - "We have powers you dream of having. We are stronger and faster than anything you have ever seen. We are the superheroes you worship in movies and comic books"

The Ruby in the Smoke: A Sally Lockhart Mystery - "child" detective

Yay, thanks. I'd've responded quicker, but I've been in the hospital. So now I'm all behind in my reading. Boo.

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Glad you are okay Jesi.
Don't you hate when life gets in the way of the fun stuff?!?!?!

message 12: by Karis (new)

Karis Jacobstein (yalitwit) | 419 comments Well, since I finished it today, I guess it counts for November...

Incarceron by Catherine Fisher LOVED it! I can't believe I put off reading this book for so long! Protagonist (Finn) is a Starseer, and has visions from Outside.

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 191 comments Mmm I got that book today to start reading. I have the ARC for the sequel so I thought I should read Incarceron first >.<

message 14: by Karis (new)

Karis Jacobstein (yalitwit) | 419 comments I am so jealous! What I would give to get my hands on an ARC of that book! Lucky you!

message 15: by Amy (new)

Amy How do people get ARC copies?

message 16: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) Heather wrote: "I read Scumble (I was only a quarter of the way through it on November 1, I swear.) I adore these books. :)"

What unique talent does the characters have Heather? That's the sequel to Savvy right? Are they both good?

Usually they are a blogger or know the author or write to a publisher, etc.

Amy That's pretty cool.

So for November, would The Alchemyst work? I posted it in October b/c it was magical but wondering if it was also considered a unique talent.

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 191 comments Im going to say The Strange Case of Origami Yoda

Dwight is a kid with the ability to make origami objects...in this case yoda...who appears to be able to give really sound advice where Dwight, whose finger he resides on, seems clueless and weird.

message 25: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 191 comments Also...I have ARC's of things because I work in a bookstore...first come first serve, so I stalk where we put them...

message 26: by Amy (new)

Amy LOL, that's a good perk to working in a bookstore.

message 27: by Kellee (new)

Kellee Moye (kelleemoye) How was Origami Yoda?

message 28: by Stephanie (new)

Stephanie (Reading is Better With Cupcakes) (imjustcupcake) | 191 comments I really liked Origami Yoda. It is a quick easy read (atleast for adults lol). The main question of the book is if Origami is for real or not...or is the weird kid faking it. Then you go through stories of a few different kids telling of their experiences with Origami Yoda and how he either helped or failed them.

Its really cute. At the end there is even a "how to make an origami yoda"...or atleast in my version there is, I doubt it was taken out (I have an ARC..)

message 29: by Kristen (new)

Kristen Harvey | 1046 comments Amy, you can also get some ARCs here on goodreads in the book giveaway section. :)

message 31: by Amy (new)

Amy I have a publisher that from time to time sends me emails about new books, but they aren't that exciting. LOL. I do use the giveaways but haven't won anything yet.

Karis, when did you read Seeing Redd? If you read it in November, you did earn 1 point, but if you read it in December, since you already got November points, it wouldn't count. Please let me know :)
