Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Amazon will allow Kindle users to lend books to each other for 14-day periods, the company announced Friday.

The lending feature has been one of the primary selling points of Barnes & Nobles's Nook e-reader, which is slated for a refresh next week. As with Barnes & Nobles's lending feature, Kindle lenders will not be able to access the book on loan during the 14-day period, nor will they be able to loan the book to the same user more than once.

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments Maybe we can start a lending section? This is way too cool. Anyone do this yet?

message 3: by Marialyce (new)

Marialyce I saw that too, Meg, and I was excited about it. My daughter and I said we would do it, but your idea sounds great!

message 4: by Beth (new)

Beth | 163 comments I'd love to participate in this! I hate that I can't forward or "lend" my ebooks once I'm finished with them!

message 5: by Meg (new)

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments well, I think we need to figure this all out. it has really exciting possibilities!

message 6: by Beth (new)

Beth | 163 comments Okay, I will try to see if I can lend you a book - even if it is one that you've already read : ). I'm using my iPad now more than my Kindle, but I'm using the Kindle app on my iPad. I'll see if I can figure this out - the limitations, etc. - and get back to you!

message 7: by Beth (new)

Beth | 163 comments It's not available yet, but is in the works. Stay tuned!

Cottonballs | 10 comments Very interesting! I too am interested in sharing.

message 10: by Jenn (new)

Jenn I was glad to hear this. I do find it irritating that amazon didn't allow you to do that initially.

Christine | 1311 comments Very interesting news. Think I'm getting one for Christmas! :)

message 14: by Meg (new)

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments I will let everyone know once it happens, I think it supposed to be within the next few months.

message 15: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 654 comments And then we will dance party and have a virtual cupcake to celebrate.

message 16: by Leslie (new)

Leslie (lesslie) I GOT AN IPAD! Woo hoo! I will check into lending but so far I've only done free books. Sometimes it's cool to like the classics.

message 17: by Tiffany (new)

Tiffany | 92 comments I would also be happy to lend!

message 18: by Stephannie (new)

Stephannie | 1 comments Hi Meg!
I got a Kindle for Christmas, and your post makes it even more exciting!

Dolly (dollya) Meg wrote: "Can't wait to start sharing!" Meg, I hope to get one sometime in the near future, and would love to share with you too. :)

message 21: by Meg (new)

Meg (megvt) | 3069 comments That would be awesome Dolly!

message 22: by Cottonballs (new)

Cottonballs | 10 comments There was a link on Facebook...sharing on Kindle is now working. You don't even need to own one. As long as you have the app it should work.

message 23: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 654 comments Another of our Chicks posted the link:
http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/custome...

Now I'm surfing my book pile for which titles I can loan!

message 24: by Usako (new)

Usako (bbmeltdown) | 654 comments And done with my list. The books available for loan are so far and in between.

message 25: by Viola (new)

Viola | 1014 comments This sucks... I only found 1 book in my entire Amazon digital library that is loanable.

message 26: by Becky (new)

Becky (divadog) | 1015 comments I agree - I know it is because of the publishers, but the only books on my list are the ones that are free or close to free.

It is close to useless.

message 27: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 68 comments It may not work for ebooks, but for your old fashioned paper books there is bookcrossing. You can register your book on the site and it will get a unique ID number. Then you can pass it along and people can check the book in and you can see where it has traveled. Of course, that is not quite like lending because you will not get the book back (that's fine for some books you know you won't read again) but if you like to keep all of your books there is an option to do lending via mail.

We could possibly do something like that on here too. Pretty much what happens is a member says they have a book they are willing to lend and people private message with their address. You print out the address list and mail the book to the first person. Then the first person mails it to the next person on the list and so on until it ends up right back in your mail box.

Like I said, it does nothing for ebooks (I have a nook so I dont know if I can lend to kindle ppl) but it is an option.

Viola | 1014 comments I got my first loaned Kindle book tonight! Yay! It was super easy to receive.

My friend lent me Catching Fire. I probably would've never read if I had to buy it myself, because I didn't feel compelled to continue the series after The Hunger Games. Don't get me wrong, I enjoyed it, but not enough to buy the second book.
