Jeffrey | 51 comments I read Mariposa by Greg Bear
I read Pirate Sun by Karl Schroeder.

I would have thought The Towers of Midnight would be on this list as it is coming out in early November??

I am planning to read Cryoburn by Bujold, Human Blend by Foster, and maybe Alvos the Orator.

Plus Towers of Midnight.

message 3: by Random (new)

Random (rand0m1s) | 1252 comments I have the audio of Cryoburn and had just started (first chapter) when I got sideswiped by an unannounced major end story spoiler on a blog. Now I'm having serious problems getting the motivation to continue. *sigh*

message 4: by Candiss (last edited Oct 25, 2010 07:44PM) (new)

Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments I am interested in reading the Rushdie, but I will probably wait for the library to get it in.

However, there is one coming out November 1st that is not on this list that I definitely plan on buying asap: The Habitation of the Blessed by Catherynne M. Valente.

Hmm, that's 2 major titles missing from the list. I may have to start looking at a different source to get this info.

message 6: by Phoenixfalls (new)

Phoenixfalls | 187 comments CryoBurn came out last month; already devoured it, very conflicted about the spoiler Random mentioned.

Like Candiss I plan to get The Habitation of the Blessed; loved the three other Valente books I've read so I have high hopes for that one!

And another title being published in November that isn't on the list is Pegasus, by Robin McKinley; I've been waiting for this one almost as long as I had been waiting for Cryoburn, so it goes without saying that I'm picking it up. :)

message 7: by Candiss (new)

Candiss (tantara) | 1207 comments Phoenixfalls: Did you notice there is a Firstreads giveaway contest for Pegasus?

message 8: by Phoenixfalls (new)

Phoenixfalls | 187 comments I did! Doubt I'll win, but I had to enter. :)

message 9: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (rocalisa) | 487 comments Random, that sucks! I finished it yesterday and that spoiler blew me away. I was totally not expecting it and I sat there staring at the page, not quite believing. It is totally not someting you want to be spoiled for and I'm so sorry it happened to you.

November is going to be an expensive month for me, as I have ordered or plan to order:
- Briggs, Patricia: Wolfsbane (Sequel To Masques) (pbo)
- Jemisin, N K: The Broken Kingdoms (#2 Inheritance Trilogy) (tpo)
- Mcdevitt, Jack: Echo (Alex Benedict)
- McKinley, Robin: Pegasus
- Robb, J. D.: Indulgence in Death
- Singh, Nalini: Play of Passion
- Liu, Marjorie M.: In the Dark of Dreams

Kerry and Random, now I'm anxious to read the book!

message 11: by Kerry (new)

Kerry (rocalisa) | 487 comments Sandra - Just DON'T peek at the end, no matter what. Enjoy the book.

LOL - it will be hard to peek since it's an ebook. :D

message 13: by Chris (new)

Chris Haught (haughtc) I'm planning to get and read the new Towers of Midnight, as well as the new Stephen King, Full Dark, No Stars. I didn't see that on the list either.

message 14: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 338 comments I think it's really interesting that Ira Levin's This Perfect Day is being re-released. I may have to look at that one. I kind of remember that one being on our bookshelves when I was a kid, so I probably read it. I just don't remember it.

Nothing else grabs me.

message 15: by S.B. (new)

S.B. (Beauty in Ruins) (beautyinruins) Hmm, the 3 books sitting at the top of my must-have list are conspicuously absent:

King, Stephen: Full Dark, No Stars
Jordan / Sanderson: Towers of Midnight
James, Allyson: Firewalker

I'm tempted to add Ian C. Esslemont's Stonewielder as well, assuming I can get my hands on the UK edition. Otherwise, he's a December release in North America.

message 16: by Peterb (new)

Peterb This Perfect Day is one of my favorite sci-fi books. I can't recommend it strongly enough. Written easily enough that a kid can read and enjoy it, it also raises some interesting questions about a heavily monitored society.

I am interested in the Bujold, Butcher, Kerr, and Sanderson books, but I'm really trying to not buy new. Might go on the holiday gift list, though.

I like McDevitt's books, too. Anyone know much about Fiona McIntosh? I have a few of her books that I picked up at used book stores but I haven't read them yet, so I'm reluctant to collect more until I know more about her.

led us to this perfect day.....
my parents had this and I read and enjoyed it as a kid. This Perfect Day I think they discouraged me from readingRosemary's Baby. Mannix was giving me nightmares; as a consequence my siblings and I were the only kids in the neighborhood that didn't watch Dark Shadows. I didn't know it was because of me at the time!

Ken (ogi8745) | 1434 comments The only things I plan on is some non fiction. Was in my local store and almost went batty with all the books

message 20: by Jon (new)

Jon (jonmoss) Strange that Cryoburn is listed for November, since I've had it for a week or so now.

The only thing I'm getting 'new' next month is The Towers of Midnight, which will be signed and numbered by Brandon this weekend.

message 21: by Random (new)

Random (rand0m1s) | 1252 comments I believe the release date was initially in November but got moved a couple of months ago.

message 22: by Ken (new)

Ken (ogi8745) | 1434 comments Just saw a Facebook post from my SF book store. Towers arrived the other day. Unfortunately its arrival coincides with the store being closed to Move. I will not be able to get my hands on it till next week

message 23: by Nick (last edited Nov 10, 2010 12:33AM) (new)

Nick (doily) | 1011 comments Just noticed the re-issue of This Perfect Day by Ira Levin. I've never attempted it, though I read "Stepford Wives" way back when. -- and I just caught a re-run of Rosemary's Baby. Levin was so influential, back in the late 60's, early 70's, in making horror -- and sci-fi too, more mainstream.

I read [book:The Stepford Wives|52350] way back too. that was when the audioanimatronics were such a big deal at Disneyland because they seemed so life-like. The concept of replacing people with animated dolls seemed like something that could happen.
