busy busy weekend..
finished which i was a little hesitant at first since i watched the movie a couple of years ago which was beautiful. luckily, although with the same character and same premise, has a markedly different story and it was very very good. a beautiful story with mouthwatering imagery. made everything i ate while reading tasted bland in comparison. hehe..

reread just because.

almost done with which i read because grisham still hasn't come up with another book and i need my legal story fix.

then i'l get another nibble of
which i'm starting to think is hard to finish because it's a hardcover and my hand tires easily. :p

Interesting reading list guys. Is anyone into any self-help book? I'm currently reading the Happiness Project and Bonjour Happiness. You can tell the kind of period i'm going through. Have you any other suggestions to read on the 'happiness' self-help books?

Adella: I rarely read self-help book from foreign author, but I have one in my bookshelves : Lean on Me: Ten Powerful Steps to Moving Beyond Your Diagnosis and Taking Back Your Life. Yes we mostly picked self-help book based on our period in life.

It was used book and I bought it at book fair (If my memory served me right, the store name is "Books" - they sold used import book). I guess Peri and Times have collection of some great self-help book, you should check it out.

@Adella: Actually I also have 59 Seconds: Think a Little, Change a Lot in my reading list. It looks like a no-nonsense type of book.

I just finished Love Unscripted, and now I'm going back to my roots with Grave Mercy; a period book involving romance, political intrigue and old mythos; reminiscent of my Kushiel days.

BTW guys, why don't we all order J.K. Rowling's The Casual Vacancy and read it together once it's released?

@Rachel: Expectation is high on this one. We shall see whether Rowling could step out of the shadow of Potter series. I'm in. Although, it won't be out til October I guess.

@Reza: I know! That's why I think it'll be such a good book to read together; so many things to discuss! Hopefully it'll be out by September, but most probably yes, it'll be out in October. I'll be placing my order this weekend.

Hi Liwin, it's good so far, but bear in mind, i have about three books on my reading desk at the moment. But for sure, the style of writing fits me, I just haven't got to the part where I can feel "that's so me" ... (meanwhile I read Bonjour Happiness and I loved the book so much because it's still relevant to me - ladies who are trying to find their inner self, I recommend you to try reading this) --- I'll keep you posted on the progress.

Has anybody read Aleph? I'm reading it, but I got stuck to a part where I can't move on, does anybody feel that way too?

@shaids - i go to aksara at citos, to cool down from the heat hahahahaha that is their role in my life so far.

@Rachel One of the best book I've read so far this year. Such a breath of fresh air, after I got suffocated by Insurgent.

@Adella Thanks btw. I was so into self-help psychology thing, but I only read a few this year, because I got so left behind on fiction books, so it would be so helpful if you keep me posted :)

@Liwin: I know what you mean about Insurgent; such a let down after Divergent, don't you think? Parts of it were still entertaining, but as a whole? MEH.

@Carolina : Well, I plan to read book 2 after Ied. Will do buddy read, so if the book turn up bad again, I'll not suffer alone :))

Okay, finally finish reading the overfamous Fifty after almost 2 weeks. The books is so frustating, irritating and I don't know what I must write on my review, since I give it low rating. Don't have a clue, lol!

I just finished Fahrenheit 451 this morning. Haven't decided what to read next, hm.. American Gods or those unfinished books (Pygmy, Catcher In The Rye, or 9 Stories xD)..

fifty everywhere.... i guess it's true that while women are too classy to watch porn, but they'll read the shit out of it. lol.

bought yesterday, took just over a couple of hours to finish and it was good in a freaky as hell kind of way. it's the kind of book where the story was reinforced with photographs, in this case, old peculiar, 'carnivale' sort of pictures. more than freaky enough to keep you captivated, but not that creepy as to give you nightmares. the ending suggests a series of these adventures would be coming, and it's something i sure as hell would buy.

@Jati - so true about the fifty series - I hate it, but I kept on reading it, to keep on criticising it though :D

@Jati Peculiar Children hah? I also thought of buyin that, you know, the boos description was so captivating. But I got that bad feeling seeing the cover, it kinda freaks me out. And yeah after I look inside, damn the photos! Really, I'm not a big fans of that kind of thing. lol

@Rachel Yeah, such a disappointment. Did you find it the story a lil bit confusing? I think the author spends more time writing & editing Divergent than the sequel.

Woah woah, curb the 50shades hate! LOL. Am I the only one who was blown away by the trilogy?

And question, I'm just curious here. Lots of people mention (I'm not talking about the people here) that they hate 50shades, right? But they keep on reading till they finish the trilogy. Why? It just baffles me sometime, clearly if you hate the first book in a series, you don't continue it? I know I don't. Anyone?

@Jati: It's not about the porn (for me, anyway), it just so happens that all the crazy angst (that I live for) are in books with a lot of sex in it.

@Liwin: It was disjointed, I think. Roth jumped from one thing to another so quickly. And this time around her characters lacked depth and emotion. It was really weird.

I think hating still requires someone to be caring in the first place. One can't hate something without knowing about it and going into it.
Indifference, is something else. Well, I, am simply indifferent to the 50 Shades. Don't know don't care don't interest me in the slightest.

@Rachel Well, I read to see how bad it was. Hahaha.. Actually I'm willing to finish it even it's bad enough, habit I guess.

@Rachel : Dislike the book not always mean hate. I don't like Fifty, but hate? No.
In my case, all that plot and theme at Fifty is same old, same old. Without the BDSM and similarity with Twilight, its just like I'm reading Harlequin novels. The problem is the writing style,the characters that I feel are immature and the way James not do her research of BDSM parts. (She know about it from Wikipedia *roll eyes*)

As why people still reading Fifty trilogy, well I can said reading is everyone rights. Its their rights to continue or not to read the next book. Or they hope the second and the third book will be better than the first. Or maybe they just want to amused themselves.

@Elfira : Are you mean the Sleeping Beauty trilogy by Anne Rice? Alas, can't manage to finish it. Even I still think Fifty is better.

Still reading The Night Circus A great read, I was completely surprised by how great the story is, and how complicated the story is. Really, it's twisting my mind & confused me a lot. It's not about romance like what the book description says, it's a lot more than that, a lot of depth on the plot. The writing styles is very detail, beautiful, and sure it will hook you up.

@Rachel I wanna ask you some questions, Rach. What's Isobel roles on the circus actually? It says that she is holding it all together, what does that mean? What about that hatbox? I haven't got the point yet & desperately need some answering :(

Just got my Paper Towns from bookdepository.com and bought a copy of A Moveable Feast when the final exam week is still ongoing.Already read a few pages during the break of this unfinished business. Wish me to pass the exam well (and pass this flu too.. *sniff*) so I could dig more pages.

anyway, about Fifty Shades of Grey and the other 2 books, I observed that a lot of people were so enthusiastic to read the books. The demand is high, even Gramedia sell these books. Some of these books in Gramedia of a certain mall were unwrapped, seem like some people want to buy them but maybe a little bit afraid hehe.

I wish Gramedia also sell more titles of English books, and hide the erotica fiction books from the underage kids ( I read a tweet about a 16 years old girl read these books. I was like *facepalm*). Also, one day, I went to a mall, and saw Periplus placed Fifty Shades besides a young adult book. It's kind of..hm..strange.

@Liwin: I can't recall exactly what happened in the book, but if I'm not mistaken, she was the one who created the tree, right? And Marco was the one who created the fire? (the one currently still burning?). They are both holding the circus together, I think, due to their respective magical creations. Let me recap the book first, and will get back to you with answers.

@Sheva: I also see the 50shades books being displayed prominently in many book stores and maybe this is is because the workers don't actually know what 'kind' of books they are? Only that it's selling pretty well? Oh hey, you're going to read Paper Towns? Please tell me what you think of it; I love John Green, but I find Paper Town to be my least favourite. I'm curious to hear of your opinion.

And I just finished Easy by Tammara Webber, and it was good. Had a lot of fun reading it.

@Rachel The tree with the white candles? I think Celia is the one who created it. Things got a bit complicated around part 3, and I'm starting to get confused in Intersections I : The Drop of the Hat, Isobel's story. It says that she had only wanted to keep the circus balanced. How? The charm that suppose to be a hatbox? Who gave her the hatbox?

I think it would be so good if he have this book to be our group read Lol, there's so many things to unravel here - Bailey's story; our own story POV; those who are being used in the game, and got them mad like Tara Burgess; what roles do they have, etc.

@Sheva : Gramedia will never paid attention to that kind of problem. Romance novels that already categorized "for adult" is placed beside YA section. And I give up about "the erotic book". The workers at bookstore must update themshelves about books genre so they will not make a silly mistake (like placed Fifty beside YA section).

@Liwin: Oh wow, I seriously can't recall it in that much detail. I remember that yes, Isobel is the one who helped balance the circus and consequently, help made it into what it is. Remember how she read the cards for Celia? I think she saw something in the cards that led her to try to help Celia and Marco in keeping the circus stable, because I think if not, the circus will unbalance so many times by their power shifts. Who knows what chaos could have ensued from that. Maybe later The Night Circus could be a group-read :)

I finished Pieces of Us and it was depressing. It's a good book though; it lingers long after you are done with it. I know that there is always more to a person's life, you know what I mean? What I see with my own eyes, may just be a mask or a facade or something along the lines of. This book helped to prove and emphasize that point across to me. And I'm really glad it did.

@Adella: IMHO, Aleph just doesn't have the magic like Alchemist does. So, it is indeed a hard book to read :)

Anyway, I just finished reading Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter by
Seth Grahame-Smith. It's a fun reading about alternate history of America where vampire existed and Abraham Lincoln was one of the best vampire slayers ever lived.

And I hop to Douglas Adams' Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency (Dirk Gently #1). I hope this will be a hilarious reading like "The Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy" (though I haven't read Hitch Hiker's but watched it).

I just finish Seven Day Loan by Tiffany Reisz. An awesome erotica and gave a true meaning of D/s relationship.

Funny thing: 'Fifty Shades of Grey' Books Banned From Libraries In Florida.

Currently not reading anything, hiatus mode on.
